How-do, gang.

Just curious - anyone use hatching techniques to shade and add depth? I don't mean for fur, hair or whiskers, but as a general technique for dimension, like you might in pen and ink?

I ask because lately I've laid down my main areas of color, blended in my sky or background and laid the majority of the color down on the foreground objects.
At that point I've been loading my dip pens with my brush (liquid acrylics with about 20% water) and the effect is getting real addictive.

Anyone else do this?

I've used some hatching techniques in the past, particularly after getting a book on a contemporary tempera artist, and still do use some of the brushing technique. But I no longer use it to leave discrete lines, just to help with applying a thin glaze/layer and for feathering edges.
