I have had Pan Pastels for about two years sitting in my studio and have done very little with them as I found them difficult to work with at the time, but this week I was inspired to try again after re-reading the very long Pan Pastels thread in Pastel Talk. I did post this picture there, but it was suggested that I also post it here. It is from a study I did at a local arboretum last week when I went there with a fellow pastellist to do Pleine Air. It's 11 x 14 on Pastelmat, and is Pan Pastels only from start to finish.

This is beautiful Carol, it just sparkles. You're making me want to buy some Pastelmat and give it a try. The pans don't work very well on sandpaper for a finished painting, though I use them regularly as an underpainting. This, however, is georgous and I just may give Pastelmat a try.

I think it's great! I have a set of pans also, but don't use them much. Maybe I should give them another try!

Thanks everyone. I have to say there is a bit of a learning curve when using the sponges, but I was pleased to be able to work out how to get thin lines, which I hadn't figured out when I tried to use them a couple of years ago.
