View Full Version : October Sunrise

I need to get this one finished soon, all C&C appreciated! It is 8x10 on canvas.

I did a similar one a while back, although the trees on the island were green, and it was more of a spring/summer version.

Great fall folage Deb. Only thing I'd suggest is darker lines where the water meets the island/bank.. and little bits of light/white on the waters edges to show surface. great lighting!!

It is really nice Deb but I agree, there should be a darker dividing line between the island and the water. This makes reflections so much more effective. Also think you should have some flecks of light on the edges of the little waves. I mix cerulean blue (just a touch) with white and this really gives the water a sparkle.

Kathie, thanks for your great advice as always! :) once I posted it I noticed the lack of highlights on the waves, but I wouldn't have picked up on the dark line where the water meets the island.

Thanks Coralie! (I need a few more sky holes in the trees, but I'm afraid I'll mess up the sky, which I like also, so I'm not going to add them to this painting.)

Chammi, thanks so much for your comments, and for the tips on the colors. Very helpful, I appreciate it!

I feel like a total dork even asking this. But, I can never get clear pictures of my paintings in order to feel like they actually are what shows up. Are you guys scanning yours in?

Hi Arlene, thanks for commenting! :)

Sugar, I'm not sure if you meant to ask your question on my thread or not... I don't scan, I take a photo of my painting outside when the sun is out, but my painting is not in direct sunlight. You might want to search on WC for your answer, I know there have been discussions about it. My technique is not the best, and a lot of people get better results than I do.

Steve, thanks for your comments!

Derek, funny you should mention pastels...I just purchased some last weekend and have been experimenting...I'll have to try a version of this one in pastels.
