This is a pair of Bohemian Waxwings gorging on berries. It is 16 X 28" on 300 lb Arches hot press.

This is stellar and these are my all time favorite bird! When I lived in Texas I waited for the migration every year! You've done a nice job capturing them. The marking are great.

Thanks, Gayle! I think the Cedar Waxwings are probably the ones you saw here in Texas, which are almost an identical close cousin to the Bohemians, which you will find much farther north. I wanted to paint these since they have a few more markings than the Cedar Waxwings do. But yes, I love it when they flock around here in fall, winter and early spring. Such cool looking birds!

Thanks Ms. Nan and OkeeKat! One of my favorite parts of this painting was how the branches came out

Oh, no you don't! You can have the doves, but leave the waxwings alone! :)

Hi Karen, Beautiful job on this! I really like how the birds are so well defined, and the branches/background are a little softer.
Just curious, is this a male/female pair, or are these both male birds?

Hey Deb, thanks. Yes, this is a pair, the male being on the right. I used my field guides and a magnifying glass to get the markings right.
