This is my latest painting titled 'Storm Warning'. I captured the reference for this painting in Steveston Marina in Richmond, BC Canada. I loved how the sun was setting casting the small bursts of light on the boats while the heavy dark storm clouds loomed above. I have very little experience with painting clouds and now have great respect for those that paint clouds well!

I have signed it and consider it done but I may still go back and make adjustments as I see them before varnishing.

The painting is acrylic on 14"x18" stretched canvas.

Oh WOW !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This is just amazing    The boots are so detailed, especially considering they must be pretty small in that size painting   and the water is just beyond words

Excellent work that clearly prefaces the arrival of heavy weather. Your treatment of the water is particularly good.

About 75% of this (left side) is based on almost monochromatic blue. Then on the right we have those brilliant warm colors. These two areas meet to create a wonderful drama.....Wow is right! Stunning in detail as well as compositional setup and warm and cool relationship.
Beautiful.

I'm guessing you are very familiar with these boats and setting to have portrayed them so well. The rust stains are just enough and the smooth + rippled areas ring true.

It seems as if we are seeing them through your eyes, and what a sight this is! In agreement with all previous posts on quality.

Thanx 4 posting, this pleaseth our eyes, Greg

Thank you everyone for all the nice comments on this painting! I have been away from the computer for a few days so I apologize for the delay in recognizing everyone's time to make these comments. When I posted this painting I was at the point where I was really having a tough time determining whether I actually liked this one or not. I think I had just spent too much time looking at it. It is back on my easel and I am making adjustments, particularly to the clouds.

Thank you again!

You know what they say about it taking two artists to produce a great painting. One to paint it and one to shoot him before he ruins it. Don't make us send a representative up there. ;)

Another brilliant piece Neil - you are really on a roll with the harbour scenes. The boast & the the water, especially, are fabulous. I hope you post the updated version with the reworked clouds.

Thank you again for all the nice compliments on this painting! Coralie, I'll definitely post an update when i finish up the rework on the clouds. I have put it aside temporarily to get a new painting under way. I agree with your funny comment Rick about leaving it alone before ruining it, but I am still frustrated by this painting and hate leaving it like that when I know I can give it the necessary tweaking to make it right in my mind.

Thank you again :)

Can I ask what size brushes you used? I'm interested in fine detail but the smallest I can find is 18/0.
