This is my very first post on Wet Canvas. I just stumbled onto the forums doing a Google search for something that I can't even remember now, lol. I thought I'd share one of the first acrylic paintings I had ever done. This one was actually a commissioned piece, and I did it after I had dabbled for a couple of months in the acrylics. I have historically, for the past 30 years, painted mostly in oils, so it was exciting for me to do something new. Let me know what you think.

Lovely painting Karen.Great fur detail and beautiful eyes! And welcome I'm pretty new here too.

How do you find the blending of acrylics? It must feel totally different to oils as acrylic dries quickly doesn't it?

I draw more than I paint.

Geri, thanks for the comments!

I find that rather than blending the acrylics, I layer them. Yes, they are TOTALLY different in handling than the oils, for sure. But I am totally in love with them. It's like learning how to paint all over again, and I love a challenge.

This is beautiful, the background is amazing. I feel the eyes and their colourful reflection adds a touch of needed colours to the painting. Lovely work especially with a commission and a new medium for you.

Karen this is absolutely awesome - love the expression on the wolf's face and the fur is wonderful (it gives one a feeling that You could actually stroke it) and that background of the sky fits in beautifully with the animal. - I have been going through your work and find all of it very interesting and paintings I would love to hang on a wall. I basically do watercolor and you had commented on a pan pastel work of mine. You really should try our WDE (weekend drawing event) as it also includes acrylic works.

Very nice; lovey, lively work! Especially for a new medium. Iím having enough difficulties reviving a very old acquaintance with art work. I did some oil painting in high school 40 years ago and have done 3 or 4 recently. Now a friend has asked for a portrait of her Boxer, who died recently. Any tips or suggestions?
