View Full Version : Goldie- Whitetail Deer

This is an experiment-- this is the type of painting I really love to do but boy do I ever have a lot to learn! That's part of the fun.
We often have deer on our property, and one doe in particular seems to visit quite often. Our neighbor, whom we respect very much (Mr. Fred Evans, who is responsible for the programs that repopulated Wild Turkeys in the Eastern US) told us that she fawns on the corner of our properties and gives birth to twins yearly. He affectionately calls her "Goldie".
8" x 10" Acrylic on Hardboard.

That is gorgeous!

Jennifer--from here it looks like you've mastered the form and the medium, not much left to learn at all. This is so alive and different from the typical whitetail pose in artwork; good for you! I love it. It may be the best deer painting I've seen.

I love Goldie. There's so much to like about this from the action, to the diagonals to the point that the hooves meet at. It's all so good!!

Absolutely full of life and movement! A stunning work. I agree that it's so different from the usual "deer turning around to look at observer" images - it really stands out!

Great composition, contrast and colors used along with the subject being very uniquely rendered. A masterpiece!

Great light and energy - a much looser painting than your bird works that I have seen (which are also outstanding)! I enjoy this :)

I agree with the light being fantastic! And the energy, as Cathy stated, is
spot on! Fantastic work!

Lovely! I love the subtle colors and especially like the back-lighting. And she's flashing that big, white "flag" as she dashes off into the sun.

Thank you for all the kind feedback! When possible I love to do less 'typical' poses, especially for animals that I know on a more personal level.
The tighter paintings I've done before can be rewarding, and they are required for the purposes I'm painting them for (often competitions) but it's fair to say that I love to let the paint have its own way sometimes. :)
