I procrastinate and I am always, always finishing paintings at the last minute. Am I alone in this? If there is a show, juried or not, I'm matting and framing the night before. I'm entering the juried exhibition at our County Fair. It's San Diego, so it's huge and only 40% of entries are accepted. This is for themed art, which is "Race to the Fair". I'm sure that everyone entering the themed division will be painting old cars, race cars and speedways. I thought that this would be a different play on the theme.
It is 14 X 18 on La Carte. C & C alwalys welcome because I'm always framing at the last second.

You definitely had your thinkin' cap on when you decided on this one! Great idea, very imaginative. Of course, the painting is, as always, so very well done. Great perspective, and it brings back fond memories of a very well known, often played game. I wouldn't be surprised at all if not only this wins something, it also sells! Best wishes in the show Karen, great job!

This had better get into the show, Karen! It's definitely a unique interpretation and of course it helps that it's expertly done. Let us know!

Thank you John, orchid lady, Joni, franddad and Donna, it's a crap shoot whether or not the judge appreciates the idea.
Chris, the old nostalgia thing was on my mind while I was painting this. How many hours in our lives have we played Monopoly with our friends and family? It's like comfort food, isn't it??? I have to admit our board is well stained and some of the money is creased...

Love the whole concept!!! And you are certainly not alone - I thought I was the last of the last-minuters! Kat
There must be many that are like that. I'm only like that in art. Before I retired I always had things organised, problems anticipated and contingencies in place. No longer!
This is a good idea for the theme in hand, I hope it gets you there!!!

What a wonderful idea you had! I hope you'll get notified soon of your acceptance in the show!
I thought I was procrastinator #1, Actually, I'm improving a little bit --those to do lists have helped me a lot.
Keep us posted!

Great looking painting! I don't know if I'd know how to act if I wasn't scrambling at the last minute to frame something up!

If procrastination gives you such great success... repeat this process (not that you always have a choice).;)
Love this - the perspective, the subject matter and the painting of course.
let us know how you do!!! Barb:clap:

This is a fun painting, Karen. Well done.
Unfortunately, I'm right there with you on the procrastination. My mom was a major procrastinator (maybe it's genetic) and she tried to make it sound nicer by saying she worked better under pressure.:)
Good luck in the show!

Great interpretation of the theme Karen, and as usual, wonderful execution. This will be a prize winner for sure!
I'm a sore loser, and horrid at board games and although I love the painting, a wave of dread washed over me..:o

Very good idea and unusual viewpoint, good luck.
\yes, I leave everything to the last minute, just in case that last inspired piece of fiddling turns it into a masterpiece :-D

Ed, there are somewhere between 1,300 and 1,500 entries in 22 classes like acrylic cityscape/landscape, acrylic portrait, acrylic still life, oil cityscape/landscape, etc, etc. I've entered the themed art with this painting, 2 pastels and a pastel in the colored drawing class. When the judges come in they only select 40% of the paintings in each class, then determine ribbons from that group. It's a humongous show and it gets tougher and tougher to get in each year. Still waiting.......

hello
yeah, with those numbers, the judges need to bring a lunch :)
who are they - big name artists, curators, and such ?

The judges are local art teachers or well-known professional artists. Yes, they do serve lunch.:) This Saturday,I'm helping to jury the high school art. It's my favorite time of year. These kids are so creative, they'd know your socks off.
