Just working on this pastel. I have an article to write for Australian Artist and am submitting the WIP for this. I hope I don't stuff up. It's a boy I met in Namibia.

Thanks so much guys :) Lovely comments
Sorry Luicre, it's mostly Conte pencils with some various sticks used for the larger areas. I should also have said it's Art Spectrum Coloufix, Terra Cotta colour. I particularly like that shade for most of the African work I do as it seems to do a lot of the work for me. If I get the colour choice wrong to start with, I end up fighting things rather than it just flowing.
I thought I'd put up a few WIP shots up to this point. I did my grid drawing on another sheet of paper and then transfered to the Colourfix. There are some pics which show the colours I'm using, and of course, the main colour is the paper that shows through.
The colours I've used in the eyes. The tortillon is to fuzz the separation between iris and white as there is never a hard line there.
I do a lot of finger blending in the underlying layers but less so on the top
The colours I've used around the mouth

Patrick- wonderful work as usual- and its about time we had pastel portraits featured in Australian Artist!

Many thanks Georgia :)
Bethany thanks, not sure when it will come out. The last one I did (scratchboard) only took two or three months which I thought was pretty darn good. Funny story - I saw it on the newstands and thought I'd better buy a copy of it since it has my scratchboard article in it. When I got home, there were five free ones waiting for me
Ok, here's the finish with a couple of close-ups
First, the final stage before the finish

Hi guys, thanks so much for the great compliments. You are very kind.
A bit of news, this piece has just been featured in an article I got published in Australian Artist Magazine. Eight pages and a really great 'advert' for my art since they included other images than the WIP I did. I also got a small piece of the cover which was a nice surprise. The printing quality is brilliant. I have to say they do a good job so I'm happy. Here are the pages (small resolution so I don't muck around with their copyright) :)
If you are in Australia, it's out now.
