Sculpting with Marble Dust
Calcium carbonate, known as Marble Dust, is an open term for minerals sourced all over the globe. Better know as the main ingredient in chalks, Marble Dust is used in a wide variety of applications, such as a painting ground, painting medium, and in some cases as the textural component to fresco painting.
Another understated application is using Marble Dust as an additive to cement for sculptural applications. Mixed with cement and water, Marble Dust offers a semi-glossy finish when polished. Play with the ratio for the desired amount, starting with a 1:1 mixture. Try adding colorants, pigment, or other raw materials to create unique textural elements and colored tints to the mixture.
FAQs:
What type of cement should I use, if I want a clean, white finish?
While commercial grade cements can achieve respectable results, we suggest working with a white cement, such as the FlashCrete Cement.
