View Full Version : "The Earring" - Finished?

I started this piece a while ago... then I realized it had been done before, by greater talents than me. (Diana Lee and Lorna, if I'm not mistaken)

I normally work on wildlife, so I'm challenging myself to do some portraits. As part of the recent challenge, I did "Little Dutch Girl", and that was done at the same time as "The Earring". "The Earring" is 8x10.

Comments? Criticism?

Thank you.

I hear that painters never want to do the same picture as someone else because they will all look alike. I don't see that issue with scratchboard. Each artist tends to focus on something different and bring a different light and style to the piece. This is beautiful, and very handtastic.

I love the drama and energy of this piece. The extreme lights and darks make it a most interesting piece to view. Well done-Hector.

I've mentioned this before and will probably do it many times to come... I love how you handle negative space and shadow, with just a hint of line to suggest an entire area. It is so masterful... and this is a stunning piece.

Hector, I find myself studying your work. I so agree about the use of negative space. Bravo! Rick
