This 8x10 board was a commission. It is now finished and delivered. Some important lessons learned using colour on larger spaces of white......

lessons well learned indeed. You've created a beautiful piece. I really like the subtle coloring and shading.

Awww so cute! I'm wondering if you had good reference photos to work from or were you able to take some yourself? For some reason I've always found it fascinating to learn how a commissioned piece is put together. In my experience the commissions I have done are usually from snapshots that don't have the best pose, lighting conditions or environment for composing an artwork from.

Great finish... along with what's mentioned above...I like the subtle color around the eyes...that by the way, look wet and alive to me...

Thankyou, Lesley; Yes, it has been delivered to the owner - however the true recipient will receive it in May for her birthday....And yes her husband was tickled pink!
Patrick, thankyou! The muzzle area was a lesson in using a 10 zero sable brush to insert dark values. I think it works OK.
Thankyou, Harry, a few new brushes and experience in mixing and applying inks paid off!
Thankyou, Allan. rendering a white animal provided some challenges I hadn't faced before - there was a bit of head scratching here and there!
Ken and Diane - thankyou for your kind comments
Thanks, Sandra, the owner provided the ref photos..they were good ones, showing the various features I needed ie eyes, muzzle, coat. Ruby apparently is a bit of poser!
Thankyou, Irfan and Rodman - I figure that if you don't get the eyes right one might as well leave it! I spent a bit of time on them!

Love the gleam in his eyes! It's hard enough to paint a white dog, it's got to be tough scratching a white! So glad your client is happy, and that is the important part.

Great job on that face...the eyes just draw you right in. Beautiful over all finish!

Thankyou, Wendy and Nancy! Yes scratching out for a white image was very time consuming - I tended to dig into the board after a while - found it challenging to concentrate on the light touch!
Thankyou, tigress and Lorna - I spent a lo-o-ng time on the eyes!
