Good Morning and a start to the Vernal Equinox.....

May wonder why I'm wash starter when I'm supposed to be away caravanning...simple, as of about 1700 yesterday I don't have a caravan, just a 10 inch pile of ashes in a field in Northumberland.....not saying too much apart from we are OK, not harmed but rather at loss for words! Can't send pictures as new camera plus lots of other things went......Eileen left the van shoeless......

Uschi, glad you enjoyed the RCL cruise, know what you mean about food! We have booked a 2012 cruise to St.Petersburg & the Baltic States for May ....but looking forward more to the September/October voyage this year..think the Japanese part of voyage may be rescheduled....

Catch you later as have to get new keys arranged for the car and go and see isurance people....

Chantal,welcome.....been to Mulhouse a few times en route to other places! Stayed in the Ibis last time on way to Lake Garda..

OMG Geoff, I can't believe what you have just told us. Rather relieved to hear that yourself and Eileen are OK, please give my love to her and yourself of course.

Well here I am on Days off and Monty is at work. After seeing him off to work I went back to bed and read the Sunday paper ( a day late I know) then got up and pottered around, ran a couple of errands. I am now Ironing and knitting intermittantly whilst watching Fox chanel that gives you all the murder mystery films like Morse, Frost, Midsummer Murders, Murdoch Mysteries and such.

I will also spend most of my days off putting together some more quilts for the babies in the nursary to the point where only the binding needs handsewing, then I can pack away all my stuff that is hogging the dining room table for the moment.

Annie, loved your leaf like insect you showed yesterday, not sure about the slug though, but rather unusual markings. Our resident rat was seen running along one of the outdoor patio raffters this morning just before we got up. We had though he may vacate his residency seeing as there isn't anymore grapes to pinch. Despite having all the grapes in net bags safe from the birds, young Ritticus was able to take off the pegs and steal the grapes, eating the insides and leaving the skins.

Well, had better get back to the ironing, so will say cheerio for now and will come back later on.

Meanwhile hello to everyone here and those to follow.

Take Care.
Lots of Love Carolynn. :grouphug::grouphug::heart::heart::heart::):):clap::thumbsup::wave::heart::heart::heart::grouphug::grouphug:

Good morning all.

:grouphug: Geoff and Eileen :grouphug: What a narrow escape - was this a gas cooker fire? Good to see you both are safe, but it must have been horrible to have to leave everything behind. I hope you can get sorted soon and the insurance people co-operate. Shame about your lovely caravan.

Well, it's a dry warm (47f) morning with signs of blue sky promising a fine day here.

I'll be going to the nursing home this afternoon to try and help the residents with computer skills, starting with family tree research.

Hello, everybody !
What a terrible thing for you, Geoff, I hope you get over this very soon. I can't imagine how you found the time to add a few words for me. The Lac de Garde is really a gorgeous place !
Today the weather is wonderful here and the garden full of flowers. I'm going to start on the day's chores (a lot of laundry, papers to correct, tidying, etc.).
We ate so much during the week-end that I'll have to diet for the whole week... I also absolutely want to go running today. Just imagine : we have three enormous cakes to finish and a whole box of delicious chocolates, some champagne and Bordeaux wine. Fortunately enough, my husband is going to eat most of these things... And he is very very thin (but he is very active). What I know is I'm not going to cook anything today !
As I'm re-reading this, I realize that I'm again talking about food. So French!
I wish you all a wonderful day.

Hi Geoff who shouldn't have been there but is, OMG that is just Appalling. I have been told by a friend of ours who used to be in the fire brigade, that it only takes 5 minutes for a van to be burned from start to finish. Thank God your car wasn't still attached to it. This makes me really nervous. Is there any advice you can give us as to what not to do when we leave? I hope your insurance will cover everything. There is always a brighter side to everything, here it would be that you weren't hurt and that you weren't sleeping in the buff!

Hi Annie of the Gouache and Carolynn of the babies.

We have been tied up with physio appointments today, and tomorrow is doctor time, then wednesday is hospital appointment time for DH. All these check ups and appts need to be out of the way before LONI.

Hopefully BBL.

Morning All. 12.1C 09:58am here in cloudy Bath. Warm though, yesterday the warmest so far this year. Sorry to hear about Geoff's disaster! Still it might have been worse and glad you and wife are okay:eek: .

The World news is again variable with some progress hopefully being made in Japan. There was an appeal from Save the Children in our paper yesterday so we'll contribute to that. As for Libya...!!!:(

Just about to start my weekly chore of hoovering. After that my usual constitutional down the lane. Tonight is Bathampton night. Last week it was a bit of a disaster with both my painting/drawing attempts failures. I'll have to do better tonight. More thought less haste possibly.

Best wishes to everyone and as always hope those with problems have better times ahead.

 all.

I had an interesting afternoon. I had to go to the Transport Department to get my licence changed to not needing glasses to drive. I had my sketch book on the table all set to go, as it is always a long wait. Yup, I walked out without it.. I missed some really good sketching opportunities too. There was an Indian gentleman sitting with his back to me, and his turban had the most interesting shapes and shadows.. Sigh..........

I was still lamenting my lost opportunity when I got home, so I got my housemate to drop me off at the Cannon Hill bus interchange. I got there at 4.30pm, realised I had my sketching kit sans sketchbook. It was still sitting on the table Grrrrrrrrrr.

So I raced into KMart, bought a $3.00 sketchbook, which has nicer paper than my more expensive one, and back to the bus interchange.. I sat there for an hour and a half sketching. Time flew by, I only realised it was getting late, because the sun was going down and the gorgeous shadows were no more :-D I did have fun, and I enjoyed the walk home too.

There was this dear lady there, she kept looking around at me, she felt me looking at her. Every time she looked around I involuntarily smiled. I got up in the end and asked her her name? She said Edna, and glanced at my sketchbook. "Is that me!!" She exclaimed.. "No one has ever drawn me before. Will you draw my face too?" I took a couple of photo's of her, gave her my card, and said I would see what I could do. I told her to ring me. :-)) I hope she does, and I will try to draw her face. It would make her so very happy.

Carolynn, you sure are a busy beaver. Enjoy your days off. I have never seen a slug like Annie's either. I loved that red mark on his back.

Doug, you are so good, helping folks out like that. :grouphug:

Chantal, gosh, all those sweets. You will need to run for a week :D I love french cuisine..

Nola, I hope all your checkups, are good ones, with good results. I go to the specialist tomorrow for my biopsy results too. I am not worried about it..

Bill, have a great day at work.

:wave Peter.. How are you?

Good Morning all,
It is almost 6:30 a.m. here in Oakwood. A plane is flying overhead toward the Base, but other than that the loudest thing I hear are the keys on my keyboard as I type this. :D

Normal Monday routine for us...Larry to the Base Hospital for his Occupational Therapy while I stay home and draw something to take to art class this afternoon. I don't want to take the Carnavale Mask because I may enter it in an Show later this year if it turns out the way I hope it will. One of the rules says the work cannot be "done under supervision," so I can't take it to class until I finish to show it off.

Geoff, I'm so sorry about your caravan burning up, but very happy that you and Eileen managed to escape without injury. :grouphug:

Chantal, You will find that we talk about food here quite often, so don't worry about it if you want to share your menues. :D Lot of us enjoy cooking and eating, so you are in good company. I know what you mean about being married to someone who can eat whatever he wants and not gain weight.

 to all who were here before me and to those still on their way. Gonna go to the RIL and see if something catches my eye.

 Oh Geoff, I am SO sorry to hear that! :grouphug: I don't know what I would do if that happened to us! I would panic,I guess I'd sleep with the key in the lock. Did you ever see the Top Gear episode where the boys accidentally destroyed the one they had been challenged to use? they were just cooking! So glad you are both ok. Lessons learned for the next one you get!

I should be cleaning up, estate agent (Realtor in American) will come tomorrow to suggest a value for our house. We are both clutter keepers.
And yes the company will pay for our move, but I will still weed out some of my books, etc, the Base thrift shop will be seeing a lot of me.

Oh well mustache, got to go get some fruit, BOY we do run out of that so much more than before I lost that 40 pounds! Turns out Jack eats apples too! Who knew?

Good Morning Everyone!!

I have already heard the sump pump going so the ground must be thawing. We are above freezing and the temperatue is to go up to +9C.

:grouphug:Geoff and Eileen :grouphug: I am so sorry you lost your beloved caravan, I hope you can replace it quickly, knowing how much you enjoy your caravaning. I am sooo glad you both are alright.

Sylvia, what an interesting painting, coming along beautifully. I hope Larry gets excellent news!!

Judy, hugs for you too because I know this is rather sad work you are doing right now.

JJ, your sketches are excellent!!

Nola, I hope all the results are perfect!

(((((((Annie)))))))))) I finally caught up reading the wash to last Wednesday and read about your robbery. I am soooo sorry and agree with the others, it's not what they took but the feeling of security has been shaken.

Carolynn, I am so glad that you are healing well. You are back at qilting and knitting

This morning I am going to play around with paint, may even try something with acrylic. I am not working in the gallery today because one of the other ladies asked me to switch with her and work on Friday instead. In the afternoon - Table Tennis:clap:  :D

Good morning Washland... We enjoyed a Spring thunder shower during the night! It should clear up a little now and then get cold enough to snow tomorrow...

I can't stay long as my Students will be here this morning. I need to get my floors swiffered, the bathrooms cleaned and the table set up. Both classes will be following me, now, in the Jeanne Dobie studies I've been doing. Only the first half hour of their classes are spent on theory. The hour after that is for their free-paint.

OhMyGawd, Geoff... I'm so sad that your beautiful caravan is gone and so glad that you and Eileen escaped without injury... Ted won't run our propane furnace because of the danger... I'll ask him to check all our hoses and connectors! Wow... I'm sure you're badly shaken and my thoughts are with you!

Hi Annie of the Gouache and Carolynn of the Babies (thanks to Nola of the Fishes for your wonderful salutations)...

Doug, Family Tree research could be a little frustrating for you to teach... good luck with it!

Hi Chantal... every time we have a big family dinner, we always end up with a lot of stuff that we don't normally eat... too good to throw away... too rich to eat... I try to send it home with my guests... Happy running!!!!

Nola... maybe I missed it... and I have been hoping that I'd figure it out... I haven't... so now I have to ask... and I just know you're going to laugh... what is LONI?

Hiya Teacher Bill and Peter Owl...

Peter The Other One, two of the reactors now seem to be burning and the Japanese officials don't know why... the workers have been evacuated (again) and even the helicopters cannot fly over because of the lethal radioactivity... It doesn't bode well...

Nice sketch after all that, JJ...

Sylvia... your mask painting really is gorgeous so far and a wonderful show-worthy entry...

G'mornin' Petal...

Judy, I wouldn't have pegged you for a clutter keeper! ;)

Hi Uschi... a busy day ahead for you... happy painting even if it is with a banned substance... :p

Time for me to shut down the computer and get on with my chores... I hope everyone enjoys a very happy and creative day!

Welcome Chantal, talk about food all you want, I live vicariously!

Lovely sketches JJ, I like your plant studies and all the info...I miss my garden sometimes.

Welcome back, Uschi, the ping-pong star!

Morning All

Haven't had much computer time in the past several days so will try and catch up today.

Geoff - So sorry to hear about your caravan. Glad that you two are OK. Hopefully you will get another caravan with insurance settlement.
What a story to tell.

JJ-Really good sketches. I need to do much more of that.

I volunteered at the shop on Sat from 11am till 5 pm then rushed home to bake a dish for a birthday carry in that we just had gotten a call to attend while I was at the shop.

Yesterday we went out visiting thrift shops and I found some really great things to put in my space. This week I will try and stay away and get some painting done.

Ok off to get coffee

 everyone,
It has been snowing all morning and it's supposed to keep up all day. Typical here. We get our heaviest snowfalls in March when it's warming up and the air holds more moisture. The cats are sitting on the windowsill trying to catch the large flakes that are falling on the other side of the glass.

I want to get to my paintings today. I am trying a waterscape  for a show with a water theme. The deadline is next week. If it doesn't work I'll sell it rather than enter it. It is from a photo I took at the beach near Gail's house. Then I can get back to the portrait.

((((((((Geoff and Eileen))))))))) - I am so glad that you escaped without harm. Things can be replaced. It will be a big task to make a detailed list for the insurance though.

Char - your students are so lucky to have you for a teacher. I'm sure you will instill in them a real love of watercolour as well as art in general.

Uschi - are you going to wear your gold medal to table tennis?:D

Welcome Chantal - it sounds like it was a great party judging from the leftovers.:D

Speaking of eating, I better go find something for breakfast starting with a cup of coffee.

Firstly:

:grouphug: Geoff and Eileen :grouphug: you must be devastated... I know how much you enjoyed your Caravan. As all have said before.... So glad that neither of you were hurt. Hoping the insurance company will settle quickly and you will be able to find another caravan as soon as possible.

Uschi, yes, we are sad to leave here after 10 years  but I keep thinking of our lovely house(s) in California, and my wonderful Grandkids, oh and Taco Bell, Chinese food, that Hawaiian place that has the Kalaua Pulled pork, OUCH, I had better take up running as well! We would like to make a point of coming back yearly for a visit, or Jack can be a temp worker sometimes.

Char, sadly both Jack and I are clutter keepers, when we were still in the Navy we would have a big clear out every 3 years when we moved. Part of this is the "Better get that now, because it will be gone tomorrow." and ususally true. For some reason we collect different things. We hauled the huge fan from the old house airconditioner from one base to another for years, because "It might come in handy some time"

Yes please what is LONI? what I can come up with cannot be right!

Family tree, well, with my clearing up, I ran into some papers I got from my Mum, and one side a cousin traced to Aberdeenshire as early as 1693! and the other side were Evans in Glamorganshire in 1808, the last is a copy of a handwritten letter, and some of the spelling is unique. Mom's family were Mormon, and knew Brigham Young.

Morning all. Just stopping by to say hi. Oh my, Geoff. I am so sorry. I know we have always enjoyed camping as much as you and Eileen do, so can appreciate your loss. Hope you get it all sorted out soon and can get back on the road again. You must have a special guardian angel.

Welcome Chantal, your going to like this place. Wonderful folks here.

Yea JJ, good to see your artistic side again. Keep up the good work.

Welcome back Uschi. I won't know how to act in the presence of a Gold medal winner. Good for you.

Glad everyone is starting to warm up. We are having nice warm weather, but today the wind is blowing and we may get rain tonight. I sure hope so as the grasses are very dry and brittle and fire is always a worry.

It has been warm enough that the snakes are back out. Already a couple of people in Tucson got bit. I hate those darn things and always worry about our dog.

Well, off to look around. Hugs all around, stay happy and have fun.......Lenore

Afternoon all! I am home sick. I had a hialtal hernia attack last night and was vomiting . I couldn't get to sleep after that so I sat up and watched tv and slept a little. There was no way I was going to work. I haven't had an attack like this in almost a year. I've gotta watch my fatty food intake better.

So I am sitting around watching tv with Al and checking out the WASH and the other threads. I would like to paint something but don't know what. I think I will scroll through the RIL and maybe get some inspiraration. Lately I hate everything I paint as they come out terrible, I need some more one aon one classes. I am checking in to some near work so I can do it in the eves.

We are having snow today the first full day of Spring! May get up to 8 inches and more is expected later in the week. UGH! And Fri and Sat and Sun were so beautiful!

Geoff- so glad that you and Eileen got out ok!! You can get a new caravan but not each other!

Sylvia- your mask painting is so gorgeous!!It is inspiring me to try and fo some serious sketching and painting, something with vibrant colors for Spring, just don't know what......

Judy- just think you will have a new home and family and new places to hav e coffee and tea. You will also have lots of wonderful memories and somewhere wonderful to visit.

Lenore- do you ever see any rattlers in your yard or neighborhood? Does your dog come in at night? I'll bet it is nice and warm there. WE had a taste of it on Fri when it was 60F! Can't wait for more!

Gail- my body and my brain don't like dreary days like this! Sun where are you?????

Char - your classes sound like so much fun!! I wish I could be there and take one!

Bridget- please post some pics of your studio! I'd love to see it! A while back someone started a thead with everyone posting pics of their painting areas. it was really interesting.

Chantal- so glad to see you joining us in the wash! WOW you have flowers and all already, lucky you!!!

Ellen- It sounds like your weather is like ours today! Milkshake loves to sit and watch the snow too. The birds are out in droves today at the feeders and she loves watching them! She sits there and talks to them! She is a very talkative kitty, I wonder if she had a some Saimese in her...

Caryl-When will you move and where to?

Doug - did you find your paperwork? Al puts things away and then forgets where he puts them. They usually show up sooner or later.

Anita- any job interviews yet?

Ona- are you feeling any better?

Bill- how is your weather out your way?

Where is Darla today?

Will go check out the RIL now.

Hi to all I may have missed and those to come!

Hugs to those that need it!

til later!

Back again. :D I finished painting my waterscape. It's just 10 x 14" so it went very quickly. Now I have to get organized to send out my photo of it. The juried show in Sudbury. At least I got this one off my to do list. I took the photo of it at the Ontario meet a couple of years ago and kept looking at it wanting to paint it. Here (http://www.ellenseasel.blogspot.com/) is a link to my blog if you are interested in seeing it. Gail, you will probably recognize the spot.

Brian is on his way home from the grocery store so I better get organized for supper. We are having spare ribs with rice and veggies and the ribs are almost ready.

Have a great evening everyone.

Evening all...........thanks for all your good wishes...

Been like Summer here all day!........but apart from replenishing the fridge have been busy busy ringing Insurers and more especially the Banks as all my cards and money went so I don't have any handy! New keys for the car have been ordered as they went up too...the firemen found one partially unburnt sets and we managed to get home on them.....but I can't get them out of the ignition!

Have been writing lists all day of what went....the easy ones are the camera, cellphone,iPod, binoculars etc...but I had forgotten my large box of painting materials incouding all the new paints I bought last Summer.......then there were my shaving things etc etc........

Back tomorrow...

Hi everyone... my gang has gone and I'm tired... I know that I try to do way too much every Monday, but the routine is also really good for me... A Catch 22 if you will...

We've been working on green charts all day... and it's so funny that everyone is having a blast making them! We've been laughing about the various colours and how we'd use them. One of my Students did bring a new tube green, Azo Green (PY129) that is the most gorgeous colour! I fell in love with it and I know I'm going to buy it...

((Caryl)) I'm sorry to read that you'll be moving away from a place you love...

Hi Lynn... I think that's why I like my enforced routine... I never have to "catch up" anymore... What are you sewing now? If I bring all our mending to the Meet, you could do it for me??? :p

Hi Anita and Ona...

Ellen, good luck with your waterscape... much like landscapes, waterscapes also give me fits, so I admire those who paint them...

Hi Bridget... I don't know about you, but I always seem to have more items on my "To Do" list than hours in the day... what gets done gets done... :)

I hear ya Gail... I think that even my hair hurt today... I was teaching this afternoon, and one of my ladies told me to SIT DOWN in no uncertain terms... I must have looked "hobbly"... :)

Judy, you certainly have auspicious ancestry!

Hiya Doug and Henry...

Doh!!!!! Thanks Lynn!

Hi Lenore... snakes don't much bother me, but then we don't have any that are seriously poisonous here... The box elder bugs have come to life here and are pesky already!

I'm excited to see your iris, Uschi... I just took mine down from the wall in our dining room and replaced it with the big bottles...

Hi Reggie... there are times when I feel exactly the same way... painting anything just becomes a frustration because I can't seem to get it right... I've learned to stop "trying"... I paint little 5x7 cards... play with other mediums and do charts... I'm really sorry that you're feeling so bad, though... (((hugs))) and hoping your hernia settles down!

((Geoff)) Making that list is not going to be an easy task...

It's time for me to make dinner...

EDIT: Ellen! Your lakeshore is just beautiful! :crossfingers: for acceptance to the exhibition!

(((Reggie))) thinking of you

Hmmmm, Char, let me think....  I'm working on the initial stages for two dresses, one for a private customer, one for a woman at the Heritage village. Then we have a bunch of dresses to make for the bicentennial of the war of 1812, which recognition will carry over this summer and two more. So, no rest for the wicked :D I have withdrawn from my weekly duty in the Printshop for April, I'll be spending all my volunteer time there on the sewing.

Lovely painting, Ellen....I know just where you were, I got some super gull pictures along the water there.

Have a good evening, everyone
