This is the first time I worked on a piece from flickr in the commons and didn't get permission. I wrote, but never got an answer. I am doing it anyway, but I won't show it to the public, unless I hear from him.
This is on a 5x7 board.

I'm hooked! ... pun intended.
03-20-2011, 07:43 PM
I think a lot of people will take the 'bait' and 'catch' up with this one.
Chances are the Flickr account isn't active anymore.

Here is the latest scan. I think I will move on to Tiny Dancer Redux for a while.Though it is kinda fun jumping from one piece to another, I wouldn't want to do this on a regular basis.

This is looking great, amazing in fact. Must see the end result.
03-22-2011, 07:15 PM
Diana, once more you have picked a great image! I'll be watching this one develop for sure! I know we have picked your brains before on your technique, but I would like to know do you do a whole row/line/bunch of left to right strokes and then go back and cross hatch? or do you cross hatch each stroke as you go? I am always amazed at the evenness of your work and have tried to do the cross hatch each stroke, and finish up falling over myself in the process!!!!!!! Also I work so slowly - I'm amazed at how fast you work!
03-22-2011, 09:31 PM
Great start and watching for the big finish
03-22-2011, 11:01 PM

Such a difficult expression to capture and you are doing it beautifully! Awesome work!
03-25-2011, 03:22 PM
 Reminds me of the kid on Home Alone. Great crop and great work so far!
03-25-2011, 04:47 PM
Oh Diana - I laughed out loud sitting at my desk, and remembered the goldfish impression I used to do (even better than my statue of liberty or my lighthouse impression.) I couldn't resist practicing a few goldfish faces - and then remembered I was right in front of a security camera! I sure hope no one ever needs to scan that recording!

Thank you Harry!
Yeah, it makes me giggle too. Reminds me of my kids when they were little.
Christobel, I am posting a quick sample to give you an idea of how I work. Starting at the bottom I make my lines (two rows) very, very close together. The three single lines to the right show the angles of the strokes in the three layers. I would probably do more than three layers, but this will give you an idea of the angles I use. I put the penny in there to give you an idea of how close together my lines are. The second image shows the penny about the right size on my computer so you can really see how close together the lines are. When you use a light touch the close together lines are easier. (Was that proper english?)
Thank you Fay!
Thank you Dusty!
Aw, thanks Irfan!
Thank you Lorna!
Thanks Terri. Uh, can I get a copy of that?
No new posts yet.

Thank you for the demo of how you get such smooth texture with cross hatching. That is most helpful.
