Well I was a little hesitant to post this piece, as the scan is not good and looks quite grainy......sorry don't know why. Still alot to do, the mouth is bugging me and I don't know really what is wrong with it, maybe some fresh eyes will help. Lorna and Diana, go easy:lol: as skin may not be my thing to do...CC"s most welcome, as they always help.

It is 11x14 and from the RIL by Maryeve

Well it didn't turn out to bad for a pic here, but my computer shows the pic alot grainier.

First off...it's really adorable! 2nd... You're doing a great job so far. I can see why the mouth is bugging you...I think the bottom lip looks pulled down in the corner closest to us. Try turning it sideways...might give you different take on it. Of course it could be like that in real life...babies make funny faces!:D

I don't know about the mouth without seeing the original but it looks great overall. With arms, I might have done lines in a longitudinal fashion rather than transverse, but what you did works fine too. As Lorna says, "adorable"!

Wendy, this is so cute. Love the roundness and fullness of the little guy--so baby like.

03-19-2011, 10:30 AM
Wendy...adorable pose... I really like how you handled the transition from forehead to hair. ( I struggle bad in those areas ) ... having stated that the scan was grainy, i'll let the skin experts offer any advice .....if its needed. Great going!

03-19-2011, 12:45 PM
I like his face he is looking very cute. Good job.

03-19-2011, 01:04 PM
Such a sweetie! I think you have handled this Very well! The mouth....I don't know, hard to say, maybe if the cheek line was a little less abrupt. Ahhhhh that doesn't even make sence to me............Here I've gimped the area I'm talking about to show you what I mean. I hope it helps, don't know if it works or not without seeing the ref pic.

03-19-2011, 02:27 PM
Pam thank you, that does make her not so grubby and softens her face.

Harry and Birdlover, thanks for looking

Rod: Thanks, the hair actually was kind of a fluke, but it seems to work.

Patrick: I know! I started them the other way and they looked like tree stumps, so reinked and went the other dirrection, I am trying to get them a little smoother, so it should improve some.

Lorna: Thanks you, I will move the bottom lip, and see how that goes. My reference is good, but when I have enlrged it to see detail, it way way to blurry and I couldn't make anything out.

Off to the drawing board

Very well done Wendy. I would check the upper lip also, if you cover them, one at a time, it might help to reveal the problem.

03-19-2011, 11:14 PM
Thanks Mark, this area too was picking me, right now she looks a but parrot mouthed. Definatly have to fix that mouth. I am going to work on it tonight and see what happens.

03-20-2011, 04:50 AM
Wendy...it's an old trick but sometimes it really can help...try looking at it in a mirror...sometimes the problem just jumps right out at you. Couldn't hurt!:wink2::D

So sweet Wendy. Coming along nicely.

Thanks Lorna, I have reinked some bits around her mouth but havn't done anything yet scratch wise, at this point she looks like a blow up doll   , but what I am trying to attempt I think will work out........Hopefully!!!!!!!!

This is definitely an AWWWW! piece. I agree with Lorna that babies do make funny faces but I like the suggestion Pamela gave. I love the tiny little fingers!

03-21-2011, 01:49 AM
Thanks Diana, still working on the mouth, havn't had too much time, but will get on it asap.

03-22-2011, 12:33 AM
Well I worked on this some more, totally went in a different direction of fixing her mouth, and ended giving her a chin lift as well:lol: I think she had too much chin like Jay Leno. I had to take a pic, so sorry if it is blurry.

Really don't know if It is better or worse, and now that I see it I do need to fix her left eye.

03-22-2011, 01:19 AM
Some great choices there Wendy. I think it's better, by quite a distance

Wendy, that mouth is looking good as well as the rest. Keep going.

03-22-2011, 09:39 AM
The mouth definitely looks better to me. And I love the hair and the skin folds.

03-23-2011, 01:29 AM
Thanks Patrick, Harry, and Lynn: This is quite the learning experience, and hopefully it will all work out in the end. Still lots more to do, but I am slowly plodding away.

03-23-2011, 04:49 AM
More of an update on this poor wee girl, I think she is coming together better than I expected, still more finer details to attend to, and major ones as well. as usual cc's most welcome, I can always use the helpful suggestions. I think I am getting her skin a little smoother looking now.

03-23-2011, 04:56 AM
What you call "Plodding"....I'd call Great big Huge steps
Keep at it Wendy! :)

You are making great progress. I particularly like the hair treatment.

03-23-2011, 08:30 PM
Thank you Allan and Harry, just looking at her fingers I think I will lighten around the nail beds slighlty, she looks like she has mechanics hands, with built up grease on them :lol

You know Harry I tried to give her hair long wavy curl like in the ref, but when I tried it she looked like she had hippy hat head, so I reinked thewhole lot and started the almost brush cut look. Besides some babies have alot hair some not so much, heck I was bald until I was 3

03-23-2011, 08:54 PM
Oh wow...I like what you've done so far!
What a challenge...well it would be for me anyway:)

03-23-2011, 09:15 PM
You know, I'm agreeing with you now that you did the arm hatching the right way. It looks so good!!

03-23-2011, 09:50 PM
She looks great and we all know how hard it is to babies, I have tried and failed at it.

03-25-2011, 12:26 PM
Fantastic work!!

03-25-2011, 12:30 PM
Oh yea her skin is smoothing out now. Looking good.

Diane Cutter
03-25-2011, 01:09 PM
It's coming along nicely. Yes, the skin is becoming more even/smooth. I love the wispy hair, very nicely done...

03-31-2011, 12:31 AM
Well have to give you all a group thank you. I have worked on this some more, had to put it away for a while, and I started something new. BUt looking at it I think I am going to call this done? I have a feeling if I muck about with this any more I will do her some unjustice. IF there is something anyone see's which could use some tweeking let me know:)

So Patrick could you please post this as Finished, thanks

It is showing kind of funky in the lighter areas, and honestly it looks more even IRL,HMM may have to get a new scanner, or better yet new scanner operator HA:lol:

03-31-2011, 01:18 AM
Wendy...you did an amazing job with this...well done!

03-31-2011, 01:36 AM
Great job Wendy, I really like the hair and how you handled the light falling on the baby.

03-31-2011, 01:53 AM
Wendy it turned out so beautifully. How dare you liken the hands to mechanics hands with grease on them. They are nothing at all like that. Gee you make me laugh at some of the expressions you come out with some time. Very entertaining.

Well, I know how hard it is to get smooth skin but you have really nailed it. Looks great. And I am about to become a nanna soon, I feel like I just want to pick this little one up and cuddle it. Makes me clucky!!

03-31-2011, 02:10 AM
Lorna; Thank you, I know it isn't as good as your skin, but I am trying to get the hang of it and it was a piece to push my boundries, maybe still some fine tuning as well.

Harold thank you for looking.

Lesley: Thank you, her hands were like that for a while, but I did lighten them up and now they are much better, congrats on becoming a new Nanna, I am sure you can hardly wait.

03-31-2011, 04:15 AM
Totally gorgeous Wendy  Great feeling in this

03-31-2011, 06:46 AM
