View Full Version : Foxy little one.

Well I started a new "Mobile" board....one I can take to work with me. I got the ref from the RIL. I also have decided on what to do on my 18X24 so I'll start on that soon. I just can't take that billboard to work with me! :D
Anyways....a looooong way to go on this.....a lot of "foundation" mistakes such as it's right eye....ears....muzzle....you know....almost all of it
Hopefully it'll work itself out as i continue. C&C as usual!
Oh yeah....I'll be adding a second board....smaller (3x5) that will be mounted above this one (5x7) to give the little guy something to focus on....I just gotta decide WHAT it will be that he's looking at! Any suggestions????
03-15-2011, 10:02 PM
Aw so cute! Looks like you are off to a great start!
Hmmm...you could always go for the slightly over used butterfly ;)
03-15-2011, 10:08 PM
I was thinking.....maybe a spider.....I hate em.....but it's different :D
03-15-2011, 10:54 PM
Nice and rich!.... its looking great!
03-15-2011, 11:10 PM
Oh I love him he is so cute.
03-15-2011, 11:14 PM
Thanks Rod...there's a lot buggin me with this but hopefully it'll work itself out!
Angela...Thank You! I can live with cute....now I just hope I can take it to the "Awwwwww that's soooo cute" level :D It's gona need a lot more for that!
03-15-2011, 11:34 PM
This IS so (more oooooo's on the next update I'm sure) cute!
As for what he could be looking at... I think it should be a squirrel on a branch peeking right back at him! :D
This is great and a spider would be a different touch...or if you are feeling ambitious, try Sandra's suggestion :)
03-15-2011, 11:47 PM
I also have decided on what to do on my 18X24 so I'll start on that soon.
You could cut it into lots of 3x5s and 5x7s if this gorgeous piece is anything to go by!!!!
03-15-2011, 11:54 PM
AWWWWWWWWWeeeethat's sooooooo cute!!!!!!!!!:) NO really, this is really nice Allan.
This may sound strange........but the first thing that came to mind of what he would be looking at would be a hornets nest.......Now that would be a challange to scratch all that texture on the nest.
Regardless of what he would be looking at, I know it wll be great.
03-16-2011, 02:42 AM
I like Sandra's AND Wendy's ideas.
It really is cute, Allan and coming along nicely!:)
03-16-2011, 08:36 AM
What a cutie! How about a lamb's leg?
03-16-2011, 08:43 AM
Very very cute so far!
03-16-2011, 09:36 AM
Terrific start. Great little guy.
03-16-2011, 09:57 AM
This looks great already. I can't wait to see what you come up with and will watch its progress.
03-16-2011, 11:14 AM
Looks like a great start!!
03-16-2011, 06:29 PM
You could cut it into lots of 3x5s and 5x7s if this gorgeous piece is anything to go by!!!!
I almost did that Buddy!!!! No SERIOUSLY!
I only have time for a quick update so I'll have to do a blanket thank you to everyone! I like the ideas so far...and Sandra....That might be doable....Or maybe the fox looking at the squirrell, looking at a hornet's nest!:D We'll see.
I spent a couple hours barking up the tree...the ground cover will be old leaves and maybe a stone with creeping charlie on it....I'm wanting to use Harold's stone technique again
Anyways....gotta get ready to go out to eat and celebrate gettin' another year older :(
03-16-2011, 08:29 PM
:music: Happy Birthday to you, Happy Birthday to you!:music:
Hope you have a great day and a great year!
You are exactly 2 weeks older than my son! Gawd I'm getting old!:crying: (don't tell Rod...he's already making fun of me.:wink2:  )
Oh...and great barking on that tree, you young pup!
03-16-2011, 08:31 PM
Great progress and happy birthday.
03-16-2011, 09:30 PM

Happy Birthday!!

03-17-2011, 12:13 PM

03-18-2011, 04:46 PM
Well, Happy belated birthday!!!!!!
This is GREAT!! He really is sooooo cute.:wink2:
As for what to have him looking at, I say leave it to the viewer to imagine. You could call it "What the........"
03-18-2011, 05:22 PM

03-19-2011, 03:07 AM
Masterful start Allen, can wait to see the finish on this one.
03-19-2011, 02:44 PM
Awwwwwwwww so sweet! Happy Birthday to you too!
03-19-2011, 04:24 PM
That is adorable. I want to learn how you did the soft fur on the chest.

03-22-2011, 07:07 PM
I've been busy busy busy and running on no sleep....which is not good but I have had a LITTLE time to throw down some more scratches.
Thanks to everyone who took the time and commented and for the B-day wishes. I need to get to bed so I can get up and go back to work tonight. Can't wait till I can retire and sit around and just scratch
I tried to update this last night but the image up-loader has personal issues with me :D Hopefully it will work this time!
AAAAANNNND it didn't :(
I'll try again before I go to work....sorry!
Still tryin' to decide what he'll be looking at....I also thought of doing some additional 3x5 boards with different subjects so I could swap them out every once in awhile....to give him a different "thing" to look at every now and then....maybe include them if this sells.....am I crazy or do ya think it's a neat idea?
03-22-2011, 09:34 PM
what a sweety and I am thinking squirrel too
03-22-2011, 11:20 PM
It worked :D I'll be doing more tonight...Hopefully :crossfingers:

Happy Birthday! This is a very nice rendering of the fur. The bark is very realistic and like the way you are adding the foreground. Gail
03-25-2011, 09:55 AM
I spent another 4 or so hours on this little guy and got the ground cover laid out. I'm gonna get the rock put in then add some different values and fix that dang right eye....It's driving me bonkers
Thanks again for goin along for the ride with me.....and as always...it's a long one
More to come....eventually!
C&C if ya C something that needs addressed!!!!!!!! (please )
03-25-2011, 11:38 AM
Wow are you doing a great job on this, love the foreground!!
03-25-2011, 12:35 PM
Sweet piece Allan!!
03-25-2011, 03:49 PM
Wow Allan...this may be a new fav of your work for me. The little guy is a soft as can be and just adorable, but your ground cover is really wonderful! So much tiny work on such a small board. Next time you post a pic, please put a penny in there for scale okay?
03-26-2011, 01:48 PM
Thanks Greg! :D I'm tryin!
03...:D Thanks Doc!
Lorna...ya just made me smile....Really BIG :D Here's a pic with a penny....a penny for your thoughts :D
Now I reinked the problem eye and haven't finished scratchin it back in.
I added some more values in the ground cover hoping to give it some depth instead of laying flat. Added a rock...ala' an altered "Farley" method :D
A sanding needle, ink washes, scalpel, ink washes, cussing, scalpel, and continue till you get a rock...or something like a rock
(less than an hour added to the total time on this.)
Anyways....Thanks for taking a gander
More to come
03-26-2011, 02:05 PM
Allan--this is very special and you are really progresssing well on. Love the foliage as well as the fur.
03-26-2011, 02:16 PM
great looking! how about a grape arbor? wasn't there a fable with that in it?
03-26-2011, 02:24 PM
Tom...You just gave me an IDEA!
I'll draw up a concept and see what ya all think....THANKS TOM!:thumbsup::thumbsup::D
Gotta take the little one to the movies....so I'll draw it up tonight :crossfingers::thumbsup:
03-26-2011, 02:42 PM
Aces... this is something extra....I know how tight your scratching is...this would be great to put nose prints on....( extra clear might be the hot set up.)
As nice of a job as you did on the penny.... ( it really does look great ) I just don't get it? Why the oversized penny in the middle of a fantastic piece? I don't get it? Dump the pocket change man....trust me on this one.
03-26-2011, 03:25 PM
OMG Allan! I love the detail in this! The little leaves are so delicate and beautiful. This is an amazing piece! It's really gorgeous now and it's not even done!!.. can't wait to see an update.
Wow, wow, wow.
03-26-2011, 08:19 PM
The detail freak!!!! Way to go Allan!
03-26-2011, 08:58 PM
Allan, beats me how I missed this one. Beautiful piece. Fur is awesome, expression is top notch and the background is really shaping up. Do you have one of those Ampersand 4 prong tools? use that for rocks sometimes (well the only time I have done rocks) and I found it quite good to use as it has a soft feel to it.
Looking forward to see what you do with the little board above.
03-26-2011, 11:02 PM
03-27-2011, 04:35 AM
WOW Allan, just a whack of tiny work on that board, I am sure at this point I would have gone blind. This is just so cute........
03-27-2011, 08:44 PM
Rod...thanks man :D I got your sketch and I'm thinkin about it...just wondering if I can pull it off! Yeah...I think I'll loose the penny :D It was good talkin to ya Bud...Glad you're OK
Sandra...thank You!:D It looks a little rough if ya get too close to it! As for an update....I am trying to rework the rt eye...It's giving me fits! I'll work on it tonight....HOPEFULLY at work. I'll update tomorrow if I get the chance
Patrick...Freak, yes...Detail....not really, just tryin to keep up with the Gang here!!!! Thanks Bud! :D
Lesley...Ya missed it cause I'm keepin it under the radar...that way if I muck it up...not too many will know! :D So don't tell anyone about this....:D
I have one of those 4 prong tools....or should I say had one! I still have it but one prong sticks out this way...another prong that'a way..and the others this way and that!
Thanks BTW!
Lorna...:D Any time :D
Wendy...It's not that small....I got out my magnifying glass just once and that was today. I couldn't squint enough to work on it's eye! Man it's ruff gettin old! And as always...Thanks for the kind words! :D
I had an Idea that Tom gave me about adding an grape arbor but it wont work the way I saw it because of the tree. I might keep it in the back of my mind to try on another board...well actually it involves two boards. But that will be down the road in the future :D
03-27-2011, 08:55 PM
"Man it's ruff gettin old!" Suck it up buttercup! You're not that old.
03-27-2011, 10:51 PM
heh - 'buttercup'... :lol::lol::lol::lol:
03-27-2011, 11:40 PM
This is incredible, Allan! I knew that this was small, but the penny really puts it into perspective. Some of the leaves on the foliage and flowers are smaller than the letters on the penny. Love it!!!!!!!
03-28-2011, 10:00 AM
Lorna...:lol::lol::lol: ok...It's ruff getting older......That Better? :D
Brett...Thanks Man
I "think" I'm done with the main board....now I gotta decide just what to do...or not to do..... We'll see....
03-28-2011, 11:29 AM
Beautifully done and the size makes it even moreso.
03-28-2011, 05:21 PM
Fantastic Allen; I absolutely love the eyes (and the fur and the foreground...)
03-29-2011, 03:18 AM
Well done sir.......and Lorna's right your not old
03-29-2011, 11:36 AM
I wouldn't change a thing great job!!
03-29-2011, 11:45 AM
Love your background and foreground! And what a great job you did on the pup.
Old? You're the same age as my son! You young whippersnapper!
03-29-2011, 11:46 AM
Your not that old...you just look like it.....there is a difference.
Aces....this is bad @!!! ... I expect that from you and you always deliver the goods.
03-29-2011, 07:50 PM
Another awesome art piece Allan!! The foliage is fantastic!
03-30-2011, 10:28 AM
Gorgeous! It makes me want to hug the fox. I love the foliage..how did you go about scratching the leaves/etc?
