What do think to this? 680274680275

It was handed to me by a lady at our local artist's guild - she used to teach scratch art years ago and she must be in her 90's!!!
Its made of steel and measures 2 1/2" x 1 3/4". She said I can keep it:clap:

Oh, that is a rare find, Jenny. Very "old school", which would make sense, considering the source. It's mentioned in the "Scratchboard for Illustration" book: http://www.amazon.com/Scratchboard-Illustration-Ruth-Lozner/dp/0823046621

As far as I know, they're not being made and I assume they're pretty hard to find. The book says "When dragged across the black ink, this tool will scratch tiny, parallel cuts. It is quite awkward to use, but once you find a comfortable position, you can achieve an effect similar to that of painting and engraving in broad strokes."

Even if the tool is dull, it's still a very cool thing to have in your possession, IMO.

Not sure what to think of it  It looks like it has lots of terminals that could plug into a computer. Going on your wall?

Jenny....That's the first thing I thought...Take it to a jeweler an have them lightly shine it up....make a decorative back to hold it and put it on a chain. It could be a cool accessory to wear at art shows or get togethers.:cool::cool::cool::cool:

Is it really rare? I have one but I haven't found any opportunity to use it yet. There's certainly not a very comfy grip on it...

Maybe I'll wear mine to our next scratchboard get-together if y'all think it's so fashionable!!

A necklace would be a great conversation piece!
Great piece to own even if you don't actually use it for scratchin' :)

How cool is that! How about making some marks on a board and show us what it does? I think a necklace is a great idea...big and chunky is right in style!

I have one of those too. Got it many years ago and never used it.
Dug it out and experimented. The cuts seem ragged...tried it on a piece of that old Canson Studio Grattage. I bet it works a lot better on
Ampersand Black board. Will give that a go.

Gave it a go on the Ampersand and I think the cuts are sharper because the surface is harder? I think you have to find a good grip so the cut doesn't waver.

I used to have one of those... but it kind of disappeared over the years. I used it for scratching into hard ground when preparing a plate for etching... I never realized it was for scratchboard. I wish I knew where it went, along with my old favorite sweatshirt and my 45 record collection from junior high...
