View Full Version : Wolf Pup (WIP)

03-08-2011, 03:41 PM
Tambako granted permission to use a photo of his of a wolf pup, so I've started it & am keeping my fingers crossed I can pull it off. So far I've only used the small fb brush, and this is the very beginning.

It's a 12 x 16 board.

Looking great, Sue! I like the fur texture that you are getting with the fiberglass brush. I'll be following along.

A great start Sue! I'm sure it will be adorable when finished.

Methinks I need to look up this gracious Tambako for some reference photos.

BRB . . .

Oh wow - Tambako has some spectacular photos!! I can see now why you like to use them

What a sweet face! Can't imagine you actually think there is a chance that you will NOT pull it off..............We all know you will and then some  Silly Girl!
I wonder Just how many of Tambako's photo's have been turned into art works...I believe that he is one of our fav's for ref Material. He and Cathy are supplying a good number of the worlds artists with inspiration! Thanks to you both and to ALL other generous Photographers who are there for us! Where would we be without you!

Maxime: I ordered it from the states. Micro Mart. I think this is the link for it (http://www.micromark.com/SearchResult.aspx?deptIdFilter=0&searchPhrase=ultra+micro+fiberglass+brush).

Bertoni: Update coming up...I've been working on it.

Greg: Thanks, let's hope the end is good too :)

Brett: I'm still learning how to use the fb on fur without scratching it out first...it's an experiment.

Ann: He does have great photo's doesn't he!

Pam: I totally agree with you. Photographers who allow us to use their shots as references are worth their weight in gold.

Anyway, have still be working on this with the fb brush, and picked up my xacto for the nose only. No inking yet and far from finished.

I just found this one - Sue this is fabulous! I love the way the fur is looking and the eyes too. Just one small crit on his left eye - the pupil seems a little low compared with the other one to me. You have the mouth/chin area looking great. Can't wait to see it completed:thumbsup:m
Love the pose btw.

Well done Sue. The alert eyes invite attention

03-10-2011, 07:51 AM
This is nicely done fg work. I find it hard to get pointed ends with it. Nice job. Love the eyes and nose too.

03-10-2011, 09:24 AM
Sue, love the way you are handling the fur, this piece is going to be exceptional.
Yes, Tambako is very good about giving permission to use his photos, I have asked him as well and in return, I send him a copy of the finished art.

Where is this micro mart store situated where you get the fiberglass brush? No where can I find the location on their site. Gail

Looking forward to seeing this one progress! It looks fantastic already!

03-11-2011, 10:49 AM

Love it Dusty!

03-12-2011, 12:39 PM
Not sure I like what I did...but here it is & I see a few areas to be fixed, but won't be playing too much more with it. Of course if you see something really off, just shout as it's not sprayed. I'm off to play with something else for awhile.

Dusty Sue...what's not to be happy with?? IMO you did a wonderful job...the fur is very soft looking, you captured a great pose and made it very 3D...it looks like I could reach right in and pet him. I love his eyes (do wolves have green eyes?) they are so alive! The coloring all over is very subtle...all in all I say job very well done!

Love it! You captured the cub personality!
(do wolves have green eyes?)Certainly, if they are jealous!

03-12-2011, 05:14 PM
Lorna, Harry, Diana...thank you!

As for the eye color, the photo is similar a blue/green. I'm assuming because it's a baby wolf that they are that way.

03-12-2011, 05:31 PM
What's not to LOVE Sue? I really Love what you have done with the colour... Its so natural and soft, just what's needed for this baby! Excellent Job Love it Love it Love it!!!

I also think you did a really fine job on it.

The only bit I would look at is the semi-circular swirl of fur near the bottom. I know it must be like that but it looks like some of the hairs have no start point in the body, rather their start point is at the beginning of the swirl and they end at the end of the swirl, which means they don't look attached to the wolf. I hope some of that makes sense - and would be very easy to fix and still keep that swirl looking good.

Pam: Thank you, you always make me feel better about something I did :)

Patrick: I had a look at the swirl and touched it up some more; it does look better...thank you!

Candy: Thanks for the compliment; although the photographer (Tambako) took a great shot of this guy, so it was easy to work with.

Lesley: I didn't realise you knew him personally, but just to let you know, he was happy with what I did. Thanks!

Karen: No story this time? :) Anyway, I have flops and sometimes successess...guess that's the way it goes; for me anyway.

Rod: Thank you...glad you liked it.

Brett: I've got a soft spot for baby animals; although I don't do them a lot. Thanks for peeking & I'm happy you like it.

Jenny: I'm working on something now, but I'll only post it if it works out... :) :)
