View Full Version : Iguana - FINISHED
02-25-2011, 06:31 PM
Hi All: I have been plodding along on this for the past week, still loads to do, still have to put the tree in front, something I am not looking forward to as I don't do well with plant matter  Size 12 x 16 and the photo is from the RIL and taken by Cathy. Thanks Cathy for the lovely close up shot of this dude. This isn't he whole board, as only a part of it would fit into the scanner and I didn't feel like messing around stiching two pics together. So here he is. CC's most welcome.
It is showing a wee bit blurry as it wouldn't fit into the scanner all that well.

Scales are like zebra stripes or leopard spots, you'll be seeing them in your sleep
Looks fantastic so far!!
02-25-2011, 06:58 PM
Thanks Patrick, yes I do see the scales when I close my eyes, half way through this I thought to myself what were you thinking? LOL All these scales OMG!

Fantastic control. This looks great.
02-25-2011, 08:23 PM
Looking pretty fine from where I sit! OMG all those scales...that's something I haven't attempted yet and I really have no desire to...so far:D
02-25-2011, 09:30 PM
I just LOVE these guys and will one day get the courage up to attempt all those bumpity bump bump bumps! You have really done a great job with the subtle tonal changes in the neck especially. Great Job!
02-25-2011, 09:44 PM
Thnak you Diane, Lynn, Lorna and Pam. Very much appreciated, I did find that after I got all the scales mapped out it went much easier, I have started on the front branch so will work on that a bit and post another update. Then back to toning and shading the scales once again. :)

Looking great Wendy, I did an Iguana in graphite a while ago so I recognize how much concentration it takes to do those scales!!! Great work!!
02-25-2011, 11:15 PM
Looking incredible so far!! You can really see the effort that you put into all of those scales. Can't wait to see the rest.
02-26-2011, 04:33 AM
Thanks Brett and Eily, I appreciate you taking a look.
Here's an update and I am not sure if I like this or not, I have started the branches, still have major work to do on them, they are looking quite strange at this point:eek:
I am debating on adding a right leg to the iguana, like it is resting on the farther branch but unsure if it would look dumb or actually give him more of a ballanced look?
02-26-2011, 09:31 AM
Wow - this is looking great! Wowsers... all those scales!! Kudos to you!
02-26-2011, 11:16 AM
Wendy.....this is soooooooooo cool!! Gosh....I love it!!!
02-26-2011, 11:28 AM
OMG, the textures are just wonderful!!!! How about some close ups?
02-26-2011, 11:44 AM
Wow!! I can't get over the amount of scales in this!! How did you go about mapping this all out successfully?
02-26-2011, 12:55 PM
Very well done. I love the composition and the placement of the branches. Wonderful detail on the scales.
One observation: I think this might benefit from a little more contrast in some areas of the iguana. Some diluted ink washes to give the folds of the skin more depth. Just my opinion.
02-26-2011, 02:47 PM
Blow me away! I can't wait to see the finished product.
02-26-2011, 05:15 PM
Very nice. I like the tree branches.
02-26-2011, 09:46 PM
Cathy, Rod, Diana, Irfan, Hector, Angela, and Tigress. Thanks for the nice comments.
I havn't had time today to work on this but will get some done tonight....hopefully:)
I may pull out the airbrush and start some shading and maybe it will give it a more 3-D look. Lots more work on the branches.......well on all of it really.
02-27-2011, 09:07 PM
Well I didn't get a chance to work on this last night, but did today. Still some more hightlights to do, but almost done. Anyone see anything sticking out please let me know.
And for the closeup requests, ooh how they look so messy up close.
Oh and forgive the dust, I forgot to wipe it before I scanned it.Thanks for taking a look guys.

I think I am going to call this one done, I have done a few more highlights and a little shading that I had missed. SO I am going to spray it tonight, and rescan, then post the final result.
Thanks again everyone .

Thanks guys once again for the great comments.
I do have to say I am quite pleased how this turned out, but I have to say it was a good picture to work from, which Cathy took and put in the RIL., thank you Cathy!!!
03-05-2011, 07:10 AM
Wendy those scales are amazing. You have done a wonderful job on this. If it were mine, I think I would knock the back branch back a teensy weensy bit just to send it into the background a little. But that's just my opinion.
Great subject and beautifully scratched
03-05-2011, 11:54 AM
 This is stunning. You must have a LOT of patience, that detail is amazing. WOW!!:clap::clap::clap::clap::clap:
03-05-2011, 12:15 PM
What an incredible job you did on this piece. I applaud you on your patience and persistance.....
