In this artistsnetwork.tv (http://www.artistsnetwork.tv) video workshop, Capture the Values of Sunlight & Shadow: Pastels with Maggie Price (http://artistsnetwork.tv/p-271-capture-the-values-of-sunlight-shadow-pastels-with-maggie-price.aspx), Maggie shows you how an underpainting “road map” of values and temperatures will lead you to a beautiful final painting, strong in value structure and flooded with sunlight. Follow along step by step as Maggie paints this warm, sunny landscape from initial photo reference and underpainting to layers of lush, rich color.

In this preview, watch as Maggie develops sun and shadow shapes within the foliage, rocks and grasses, giving the painting depth and life. Visit artistsnetwork.tv (http://www.artistsnetwork.tv) for access to the full-length video workshop.

I loved this video! Both of her pastel videos are fantastic. Those taking Johannes Vloothuis's landscape course will benefit from this one. Maggie Price touches on some of the same composition principles and demonstrates them beautifully. She also used an underpainting that reminded me of the gorgeous color stuff we were doing in "Exploring Soft Pastels: Still Life the Colourful Way" with Colorix - if you're a veteran of that class definitely watch this video.

If you haven't, ESP: Still Life the Colourful Way is still up in the Pastel Library and a good supplementary read after watching the video.

Maggie also made the photo reference available on a link at the page you order the video, so I did my own block-in of her painting while I was watching. This would be an easy video to paint along with.
