Hi Geoff, Saved by a few seconds from starting the wash.
Yesterday I had a family gathering to attend, so I didn't make it to the wash at all, and it was a shame because someone else started it:lol:.
We have our son and his precious family coming today, so no time to stay.
Evening Geoff and Nola, and all to follow:wave:
Hot day here, 30C, now I know that would be cold for Nola and too hot for Doug:lol:
Just home from a lovely Valentine's evening out.
Bit of a mixed bag today, my niece and husband received the coroner's report today of their son who died in as the result of a motor accident last year, spare a thought for them please.
I have to say this tragic death of a 21 yr-old young man has rocked our family to the core, we were close before but are now an even closer-knit family.
Better go and have a bit of a read before bed, got another watercolour (portraiture) book in the mail today from the Bookdepository.co.uk Love that place! AND the freight is free world-wide!
Take care all, and enjoy Valentine's Day if you celebrate it.

Good evening Lulu and Nola, good morning Geoff and all to follow.
After a beautiful sunrise, the sky has now clouded over.
(((Lulu))) what an awful thing to have happened. I'll check out the Book Depository.
Nothing planned for today.
02-14-2011, 04:34 AM
Lulu...........I had not heard of the Book Depository either.....but then most of the 'good books' that enter our house come via my daughter who is a Literature specialist................
Some cloud here now Doug but pretty high at moment...
02-14-2011, 04:48 AM
Good morning from me!
I'd forgotten it was Valentines Day! (sad violins, :music: no-one but me here....:crying: )
Been tiddling with a painting in Brusho, I posted the results in the Watermedia forum. I'm going to have to do this one again, I learned so much from the first. It's very 'disciplined' of me to try the same painting twice - but on the rare occasions when I have (I hate doing the same painting twice), it's been well worth the effort.
Have a fun day :D
((((Lulu and family)))) in my thoughts today.
02-14-2011, 04:52 AM
(((Lulu))) TOO young (())
I'll have to check out that book site .. husband need something else to do. More bookshelves
Hi Geoff .. 2 hourly dollops of snooze?
Doug .. our sunrise was grey but it did clear. Mornings are getting noticably darker which means :crying: for us and :) for the North.
Back at work today and am reeling from culture shock. Got a five day week this one so hump day will be hump day. Friday will be cranky.
Ran out of potatoes so went to the vege garden to dig some up .. they are resprouting and I just can't kill them. Thought I'd try the sweet potato bed .. it has gone feral and was way too scary to put even a gloved hand into. I did collect some varied lettuce, roquet and basil leaves to make a very tasty salad.
I used the real oven timer for the meat too and the last of the bought now baked potatoes. Smoke alarm was spared duties.
What to do tonight? TV is seriously awful. Oh .. DH has just put on a Fawlty Towers DVD :)
I'll could go and tease the replete and languishing cats!
 to all following

Good Day All,
Was 40 F when I got up, but has drifted to 38 since. Going to snow later.
Doctor's appointment today. I am being forced to request a prescription for a handicap parking permit due to my equilibrium problem. A benefit, I guess, but I hate having to have one.
Off to work,
02-14-2011, 05:15 AM
Hi Bill, sorry you are still having balance problems. Hope that it goes away soon.
02-14-2011, 05:36 AM
good morning/afternoon/evening dearest watercolorists....
 Happy Valentine's Day
Perimenopause hormonal insomnia woke me up at 3:15. finally got out of bed & made a cup of coffee...watched some news...now I'm here...
Geoff: glad you got some sleep...I'm planning on studio time today also
Nola: enjoy your family today
Lulu: thoughts & prayers are with you and your family. I hope the report brought some closure to unanswered questions.
Annie: I hope you have an easy week at work
Bill: praying your equilibrium problem goes away soon
 Doug & JayJay
be back L8r ;)
to all you good people
02-14-2011, 06:15 AM
I'll take that personally, thank you UNK. Actually, I have had a lovely valentines day. DH has cooked a great roast lamb dinner with baked vegatables and greens for all of us while we frolicked in the spa.
as I type this, is is 7.10pm and the kids have left for home (darren works in greengroceries at the market and has a very early start). It is still 32c in Perth Western Australia, but becoming reasonably comfortable. Lulu, I think 30c is a great temp, not too hot and not too cold.
Bill, I can't believe they would use an antibiotic on you that can have such vile after effects. Why did they do that? Was it the only effective one?
Hi Annie, I heard you shouting last night, but couldn't break away from the family gathering.
I still haven't had much of a chance to read yesterdays Wash, but will catch up tomorrow.
I'm sure there is a lot more I should be replying to, but will have to catch up tomorrow. Have a lovely valentines day everyone. Cheers, Nola.

News on the renovation of the bedroom, 2 walls done, #3 paper stripped and and waiting for paint, (color of a fudgescicle :smug: looks great with dark wood) Jack needs to do something with the wires sticking out of the wall where there used to be a lamp or something. He put up the new curtain rod and now we can pull the draperies straight back, didn't know what a view we had! of course the bed used to be there. Now I need to find new draperies.
Woke up to find 3 vans in the driveway, for the neighbors yard but on in front of Jacks car, they moved it and Jack said they could use that spot. Don't know what they are doing now. Will not complain, our renovation should start in April, I may leave home in May
Sun and cloud today, better stir my stumps, lots to do.
Ellen in Ont

A quick wash this morning as I am dashing (carefully) out the door to work. Later this week (Wed, Thurs and Fri) we are supposed to have temps above the freezing mark. There is usually a Feb thaw here to give everyone a chance to catch their breath before another two or three months of winter. It is so regular it is called our Bonspiel Thaw (usually happens during curling bonspiels).
I don't have time for replies as I'm running late already. Have a great start to the week everyone.

Happy Valentine's Day my Washer friends! Cupid must have thought we needed to be warm and our temperature is way above freezing at 6C/43F... but we're headed back down into the cold by later today along with some rain... yuck...
I think the last of the snow has come down off the roof... it doesn't shake the windows, but it sure sounds like it should!
My day will soon be filled with Students... We aren't doing anything new today in either of the groups...
Geoff, that just doesn't sound very restful at all... I don't know how you manage to get through your day without taking a nap!
Nola, how nice that your Son and family came to visit... 30C is hot... it's too hot... it's hot... :p
((Lulu and family)) What a terribly difficult time for your family... and how wonderful that you've drawn together for support... I pulled up the Book Depository on my computer and will be browsing through it!
Hi JayJay... I'll check out your painting... good on you for trying it a second time...
Brown rice, Annie... no need to delve into less than desirable garden that way...
(((Bill))) I was shocked when I read the side effects of that antibiotic... I sure hope this is temporary...
Awh... thanks Wilf... you Romantic, you...
Your home is going to be beautiful and the renovations will all be worth it, Judy... keep reminding yourself of that... :)
Hi Ellen... down here, our thaw in usually in January... and we creatively call in the January Thaw... We didn't get a thaw this year, but with the warming temps now, our snow is melting quickly... Have a great day at work and be careful of that shoulder...
Hi Doug, Bridget and all yet to come... I sure hope you day is the very best possible!
02-14-2011, 08:11 AM
http://www.bookdepository.co.uk/ doesn't work for me...I get error messages...maybe because I'm in the states...
http://www.bookdepository.com/ does work. thanks for letting me know about this site !!
02-14-2011, 08:15 AM
Good Morning Everyone!!
We are actually ABOVE freezing:clap: but only for one day, tomorrow it's going back down to -15C. Sky is clouded over.
Wonderfully chatty wash yesterday, Sylvia, thanks for the recipe, I will definitely try it!!
I decided to paint the little white rose painting again, this time with a light background vs. the very dark one. I do this once in a while, just to satisfy my curiosity of how it would have looked the other way. I like them both - one dramatic, one airy.
A full day ahead for me, working in the gallery in the morning and playing table tennis afterwards.
((((((((Lulu)))))))))) and ((((((((((((Ona))))))))) and what Char said!!!
((((((Bill)))))))) Who would ever think that a little cat bit can create such difficulties. Just shows us how things can happen just out of the blue.
I need to get ready so will finish with HAPPY VALENTINE wishes for ALL!!
02-14-2011, 08:50 AM
Good Morning all,
It is quarter to nine in the a.m. here in overcast Oakwood...no blue sky showing, just lots of clouds. Temps are warmish today here as well and I can now see the grass in our backyard although there are still snow patches as well.
 HAPPY VALENTINE'S DAY TO ALL YOU WASHERS!
Dashing through before changing Larry's bandages. Trying to get more of my painting done so I can maybe finish it in class this afternoon.
Uschi, I'm having your dilemma...not sure if I want to add a background, and if I do, what kind do I add. Don't want to have the window that is in the photo, so not sure what to substitute. Grrrrrr, backgrounds. We need to do a Monthly Class on them....any volunteer leaders?
 to all who were here before me and to those still on their way.
Sylvia, send me a jpg of the painting so far and I'll offer my suggestion re backgrounds. Maybe I should write a book about backgrounds:wink2: I love doing them... i know I'm a rare breed, but I do them first then if I muck them up nothing really is lost.
Happy Valentines everyone and thanks Char, Uschi, Lulu Sylvia and Hap for your support.

Aft' noon each .........
Ah The Book Depository, I have used it for years it really does rival Amazon well and the free pot to anywhere in the world makes it great for sending out gifts. I have been known to send out watercolour books to fellow artists friends when they are ill or just as a thank you and have never been disappointed by the Book Depository ........... In fact I think that's how I put Lulu in touch with the place ...........
The other one if you are looking for an older, maybe used book try Abebooks part of the same group as the Book Depository but with loots more links for the older book. Try either www.abebooks.co.uk or www.abebooks.com .You may have to pay shipping on these, although some are free, but if it is for the special book that you want it will be worth it. Hey look at that I just found a link for NZ and Oz too ......... http://www.abebooks.com/books/ANZ/ hey and Canada ........... http://www.abebooks.com/Canada/
Not much to report really ....... I have finish my painting ....... first one in months so may just put it in the gallery .......
See ya later ...........

HAPPY VALENTINE'S DAY and Happy Monday!
I'm tired this morning; not such good sleep. My niece, laura came last evening and we chatted with Larry while watching the grammy's. We didn't go to bed until 11:30 and she had to be at her orientation at 7:30 and I had to be at work at 7:45. I couldn't fall asleep....and I kept waking up when I did! Needless to say we BOth most likely will be ready for bed earlier tonight. She will be with us until Thursday. Her husband, Blair (my nephew) will travel here (2 hrs) today for the inspection on the home they've put an offer on. Hoping it passes inspection for them. They REALLY like it.:crossfingers:
It's been mild and melting here. This afternoon the temps will drop though and we could have icy conditions tomorrow morning on our drive into work. But the rest of the week it's going to be much warmer and melting. Today the wind is quite brisk but that is okay as it'll help dry up the water.
Gail, that is just awful about Dan's mom. I hope she will take it easy for a few weeks to heal properly. WHOOHOO for you both going to the Mexican Rivera.
Char, that is a nice thing to do for your Mom and I bet she sure appreciates those nice hot, homecooked meals.
((ONA)) hope your portrait is almost finished....then on to the next painting.
Sylvia, your nice neighbor's well sure love that painting. What a GREAT ref pic!
Hap, LOL at your challah bread story.:D
((BILL)) what an awful experience you've been through from the bite of your cat. I sure hope things start looking up for you.
Hello LuLu (I remember you telling us about that horrible accident):crying: , Geoff, Bridgett, Judy, Doug, Ellen, Nola, Lenore, Reggie,Kev, JayJay, Annie and anyone else I failed to mention; as CRS is setting in.
Make it a GREAT day and I hope you hug someone you love and tell them Happy Valentine's Day.
02-14-2011, 10:15 AM

HAPPY VALENTINE'S DAY
Good morning all my washer friends. Looks like the sun God is shining on us this week and we should hit 80F today, which to me is perfect. Anything below 90 is fine with me, but then we don't have any humidity to deal with.
I have been into spring cleaning again. I love the smell of a clean house, got all the curtains and blinds washed and re hung, and yesterday got all the living room furniture vacuumed and earlier got all my kitchen cabinets cleaned and polished.
I've also been practicing flowers. Got 2 done for the PP challenge, but the 3rd one hit the bin. Annie keeps us busy in the Gouache corner also. So trying to stay a little creative mixed in with the spring cleaning.
I've also been trying to keep up with the Johannes classes on the weekend, but sometimes get bored with it and just listen and paint something.
Thanks Lulu and Kev for the book links. I have already saved them.
Good to see you back in the wash Ona, but I also understand about you staying out when you feel so bad. I do the same thing myself when I am hurting. Constant pain can really get you down.
But we really miss you as you are such an inspiration to those of us who struggle with our art. Know that white light is beaming your way and thanks for being the sweet person you are.:grouphug:
Well, off on my adventure to see what cobwebs are hiding in hidden corners. I never thought I'd see the day I had a cat or dog in the house, but our Biskit dog just won us over.   On the dog hair.
Hugs all around.:grouphug: ..............Lenore
02-14-2011, 11:22 AM
Just bopping in before packing my gear for class and having lunch to say
 THANK YOU TO ONA for the wonderful suggestions on the background. You've given me a pathway to follow....now if I can only do it half as well as you do. :D I remember how you helped me with the background on Quinn's painting too and it really turned out well.
 to all, see you after my class late this afternoon.
02-14-2011, 11:35 AM
Happy Valentine's Day http://www.wetcanvas.com/Community/images/14-Feb-2011/13320-love_31.gif Washers !
+3 C. and raining here in the Grove. It is going to stay mild today and then drop this evening and tomorrow but back up to the + side on Wed. There is a flash freeze warning for most of central Ontario for this evening.
Uschi, can you show us both your rose paintings please. What time is Jeopardy ? I am looking forward to watching the IBM computer vs. 2 humans. My money is on the humans.
Char, enjoy your classes today.
Bill, many years ago I contracted a virus that caused vertigo which lasted almost a year. The first couple of months were extremely difficult.. I did learn some coping mechanisms that were helpful and I recently read an article about vertigo and the latest treatments. I will P.M. you. Re: the handicapped parking permit. Remember, if you are having a good day, vertically, you don't need to use it. Gentamicin is well documented on this side effect so I am assuming that there was not a lot of alternative to get your infection under control.
Dan is heading down to Toronto and Gilly just pulled in the driveway so I will  and say what ^^^Char said ^^^
02-14-2011, 11:51 AM
Happy "V" Day Washeroskies!!
Anne had a tough night, very little sleep and lots of sadness, but she insisted on going to school today inspite of being tired and emotionally exhausted.:( I'll have a special dinner ready for her when she gets home tonight. I hate it when I'm unable to "make it better" for her. There are times when we all know how Geoff feels!
Weather this morn is intermittent rain...windy perhaps later, temps are moderate 8.3C at the moment. will get up to 50F or so today. not bad for FEB!
Glad Char was able to word it so well for the rest of us.
LuLu, sorry that Fiji wholloped NZ...but those guys were BIG!! Still it was fun watching and I enjoyed it quite a bit.
Nola, 30C is too hot for me as well! Now I'll admit if I lived in it most of the time I'd aclimate to it. It never bothered me when I lived in Hawaii or Guam, and it was often that hot and humid as well...but I've been HERE for so long again that I'm fully adjusted to THIS climate....and we have warm winters and cool summers....which I feel is ideal!:D My mother who lives in South Carolina (south east USA) would be wearing a sweater on all but our hottest summer days!!
Sylvia, I even sweat the japanese eggplants...just a habit I guess, not so much for the bitterness as to remove excess moisture. Once tried to grow them here...they never got bigger than a hen's egg!! ah well!!
LuLu while it's a tragedy about your great nephew, it shows the strength of your family which is inspiring. May they find comfort in each other!!
Doug...isn't it nice to be able to say "nothing planned for today"?
OOooOOoo!! Boooooks!! Ok, I've bookmarked the site!!
Jay Jay, I often do multiples of the same painting...although you might not be able to tell they are the same :wink2: the all start out that way!!
Annie, it's so much fun to eat out of your own garden! I never put basil in a salad...it's too overpowering for me...maybe if I chiffonaded on leaf?
Bill, My doc gave me a temporary one for my knee...Boy did it make things easier!! I'm hoping I can get by without having to make it permanent. Hope you can as well!!
Bridget, watching the news and drinking coffee won't help the insomnia!
Good to see you back Wilf! Been up to the cabin lately??
Nola, glad your valentine cooked you a delightful dinner!!
Judy, if we had renovations starting in April....I might leave in March!!
Ellen, we sometimes have a Feb or March freeze... Thawed is normal for us!!
Char, with us watching Anne's blood sugar, I have not made bread pudding (or banana pudding) in ages...
Uschi, can you paint in the gallery? Makes the time pass more quickly I'd think! and it might even draw people into the gallery to watch!!
Sylvia...backgrounds are Harrrd!!
Ona:grouphug: we're all here for you!!
Kev, glad you're giving the brushes a workout again!! Looking forward to seeing it!
Darla, I stayed up and watched the Grammy's too...mostly to see Mick Jagger, (boy what a powerhouse he STILL is!!) and Bob Dylan (voice is SO gone now). I sure don't understand Lady Gaga...yipes!! and I'm still not a big fan of rap.. Nora Jones (did you know she's Ravi Shankar's daughter??) really belted out Jolene though!! All in all it was worth staying up for...but I was tired all night with Anne being awake...I'll for SURE take a nana nap today!!
Lenore, Spring training starts today...of course the temps have to go up!! There are times when I find Arizona disturbingly appealing!! Only for a week or so mind you...but the dryness and warmth in Feb is such an oddity for us in the great northwet!!:wink2:
I'll check back later gang!!
02-14-2011, 01:56 PM
Hap, yeah, March sounds good, but you know how these things go, I will wait till they REALLY begin work, and then will bail when I am good and tired of the whole process! Besides, someone will have to be sure they are doing it the right way
We are going to go to San Francisco, in May, so Jack can "not run" in the Bay to Breakers footrace. He is "not running" because his doctor has forbiden him to run on the pavement. His answer is "you don't really run in the B2B" He has a point, I know one year there were more than 100 thousand, and this is the 100 run.
He has just come home with roses, he is a good boy. And our romantic evening? we are going to the club to work out........whoopie
02-14-2011, 02:05 PM
:wink2: :p Hap: lol, I know...I figured since it was a fairly reasonable hour I'd stay up. I napped already. :D
02-14-2011, 02:05 PM
Happy Valentine's Day Washer's!
Some flowers that Brian and Monet gave me this morning in the Kitchen!
A closer look!
Have aa great one!
02-14-2011, 02:56 PM
I just got home, off to table tennis in a short while, but had to read the Wash, of course:)
Very windy here.
Uschi, can you show us both your rose paintings please. What time is Jeopardy ? I am looking forward to watching the IBM computer vs. 2 humans. My money is on the humans.
Gail, I'll take photos tomorrow if the light is right. re Jeapardy, it is usually on at 7:30 p.m. on CBC and on an american station. Well, they did pick the smartest players, the only way they'll get "Watson the computer" is if the questions are phrased in a weird way. As for knowledge he knows more, he has been fed encyclopedias, wikipedia etc.etc.
Hap, I am so sorry that Anne is still hurting so badly:grouphug:
Sharon, GORGEOUS Roses!!!
I am going to give this Valentine (me :) ) some tulips tomorrow when the price has gone down by half:)
Sylvia, I bet you that when the time comes and I post both roses side by side half the people will like the dark and half the light. Can't wait to see yours!!
O.K. time to go again, to ALL!!!
02-14-2011, 06:03 PM
Hiya... I'm taking a break before I get dinner on the table for my two Valentines... I made them some white chocolate pecan bark yesterday... Ted will have a bite of one and then give the rest of his to Magoo... :) I also made up some cupcakes and decorated them for tonight's dessert...
I managed to get the floors shovelled up and the bathroom cleaned before my Students arrived... Both classes were a lot of fun... and my afternoon Students gave me a beautiful orchid! I've never grown orchids, so this is such a joy (and a huge surprise!)...
Uschi and Sylvia... I'm looking forward to both your paintings!
Ona... how thoughtful of you to help... I love painting leaves but not backgrounds... :)
Thanks for your second book link, Kev... I've bookmarked both of them now... I usually use Alibris.com for my second hand purchases, but it's nice to have options! I'll peek in the Gallery to see what you've been up to.
Darla, my Mother tends to buy quite a bit of her food from M&M's... It's a store that sells premade frozen meals... they're pretty high in sodium and my Mother has really high blood pressure problems... It's not hard for me to make 4 servings and put hers in the freezer...
 Lenore... I love the smell of a clean house, too... I just don't like the process of making it smell nice!
Hap... we really monitor Ted's carbohydrate intake on those days when we'll be having something special... and, of course, a dessert like that needs to be balanced with a nice bit of protein... a piece of sharp cheese, for instance... I'm sorry that Anne is not sleeping... You can't "make it better"... but you can (and I know you do) just "be there"... sometimes that's worth more than any words ever spoken...
Your romanticism made me smile, Judy!
Those are sure beautiful roses, Sharon...
Gail and Bill... I was reading that a walking stick (not a cane) was very helpful...
I hope you get some sleep tonight, Bridget!
 I forgot to post this after I'd type it... Dinner's been had and cleaned up... So, I hope everyone has a great evening/morning... House and Top Chef are both on tonight and I'll enjoy just sitting and watching tv...

Just wanted to wish everyone a Very Happy Valentine's Day even if it is late in the day.
I have not felt like being on the computer much the past couple of days. Went to Dr. on Friday and was told to stop the antidepressant for the Fibromyalgia to see if it was causing my B/P to run high and to see if it was really helping the fibro.
Well by Sunday I was in so much pain that I just stay down and have had a really awful time of it today too. It feels like somebody beat the crap out of me and I don't have a single place on the body that is not sore.
So let me wish everyone else who is hurting from a medical condition some relief and I will try to check in later.
Hi everyone, early afternoon here and very warm - heading for 30C again.
Loving it too!
Thanks everyone for your kind thoughts, yes the coroner's report does bring closure, but at the moment it's brought back the pain of the first day. I know time will heal, but it's the getting to that stage that hurts for those closest to him.
Have had a lovely morning, out early to the gym, then the usual coffee and chat with ourTuesday morning gym group, we all look forward to it, it's worth the hard work for what comes after lol
Also, got my hair cut today! it is now just sitting on my shoulder. I love it, John says he'll get used to it lol I can still tie it back, braid it, do whatever creative I want to, so I think that should make him happy lol What is it with men and long hair??
Anita, poor you. ((( ))) I remember fibromyalgia pain very well, and it's horrible. Praying for some answers for you.
Ona, your wip is simply amazing! You are truly an inspiration to me and countless others.
Yes, Kev introduced us to the Book Depository. I buy most of my books through them now, often they are up to $30 cheaper than I can get them in NZ and they come within 10 days and of course freight is free! The NZ govt are making noises about adding GST to overseas internet purchases though...
Must go and get some lunch, have to say hi to everyone else, am starving!
02-14-2011, 08:21 PM
((( Big but gentle hugs Anita )))
