I'm working on 4 pieces at once. I find that if I get bored with one, I can on another one for a while.

This one i started last night. It's a small piece (5x7), and it is of a detail of a fountain in a very sunny plaza in Granada, Spain. It was taken while on vacation last year.

It's not a very good photograph of the piece itself. Took it hurriedly, as I am heading out the door.

I like seeing people get rock texture right. This is going really well

Patrick, the head is marble and the "bowl" is more textured concrete. I hope I meet your expectations. Will post an update Sunday night, hopefully.

Thanks all for your nice comments. I haven't had a chance to work on this much over the last week. Here is a bit of an update.

I'm using a fine black marker to make the 'pock-marks' (for lack of a better word) in the concrete that forms the bowl of the fountain.

this will eventually get some diluted ink washes in the concrete area, which is darker than the mostly white marble head.

Hector,
This is looking good, love the way you are doing the texture with the concrete texture being so different. I am watching with anticipation of what will follow.

Interesting - was seeing this as the OUTside of the bowl, but you seem indicating it is the INside....:lol::lol:

Lesley, Gail and Harry - Thank you.

Rodman - I appreciate the enthusiasm very much!

Robert - Now you've got me worried. Your first instinct was correct. It is the OUTside of the bowl of the fountain. Does it still as the INside of it for you?

Here is a bit of an update for today. I'm still working on it, but sunlight is fading and i wanted to get a shot outside before it got any darker.

NOW it looks like the outside - if the shading had been different, it well could had turned the other way -:lol::lol:

and it looks real cool - great stone work here.

Hector . I waited till I could figure out the composition. Now it is clear .
This is a commendable work - especially the texture of stone showing marks of age .

This is so beautiful... The strong shadows are striking, the hatching so lovely, the water... It's a joy watching this evolve.

thanks all for you wonderful comments (and lack thereof in Rodman's case)!

here is this morning's update. went directly from bed to table to begin scratching. does anyone else do that?

Not quite finished yet, as I want to work on the underside of the bowl a bit more.

Absolutely wonderful work Hector...I love the dramatic lighting and the fantastic stone work!

You asked if anyone gets up and goes straight to scratching... yes, I have done that but mostly I grab my coffee and come here to WC and then go scratching! (or in today's case, painting)
