Cute dog. Great background effect. The dog looks like it's tail should be going a hundred miles an hour.

Debby I love these!! They tug my heart because they look like my late great rat terrier Sampson. I had no idea digital art could be so appealing- it's very impressionistic and not sci-fi (as I expect "digital" to be). Do more!

EP - Your digi doodles are original and delightful! The use of a 'large size' brush is challenging but you manage to pull them off. I really like your work!

Seriously cool art. Can you do a brief explanation of how these are created?

Here's an approximate explanation.

1. I open Corel Painter Essentials and then open one of the dog pictures.
I pick which medium (digi oils, digi acrylic, digi pastels, whichever)

2. BG: new layer with bucket fill 100% opacity

3. BG: new layer with two colours with 50% opacity. Big brush

4. New layer - paint the general shape of the dog with a fat brush. No detail. 100% opacity

5. New layer - paint the lights in around 75% opacity. Medium brush

6. New layer - paint the mid and darks. Around 75% opacity. Medium brush

7. New layer - eyes and nose

8. New layer - details

I just keep playing with hiding and showing each layer to see what coverage I need. I play with brush size and opacity and colours.

EP, your doggie posts remind me of the old Gary Larson Farside??? cartoon - some dog sitting at his computer, caption something like 'on the internet no one knows you are a dog'.

Thanks for the explanation of your process, and thanks for posting these two cuties! For some unknown reason, #11 is my fav (so far).

Cheers

Wow, EP - these last few are way off the chart on the cute scale! I'm a sucker for dogs of any kind, but puppies, well now that's fighting dirty. :)

These are so neat! Amazing how much character and motion you can express in a pattern of little splodges. I once cropped a little tiny photo of my girlfriend and enlarged it until the pixels were quarter inch squares - it's amazing how there are just these few squares of color and yet it's unmistakably her.

DrDebby
03-06-2011, 08:25 PM
More great dogs. I really like the one in the window, looks like he's got a mask on.

Very nice. I tried Paint Shop a few years ago to make a card...had to do it upside down for some reason, I forget why now. It seemed mickey mouse. Last weekend, I started to take an online course which required homework to be done online, so I tried paint shop again. Still mickey mouse in a way but that didn.t matter for the homework, but I think I'm getting hooked, and now after seeing your work here, I may just be hooked, line and sinker!!!

JTMB
03-08-2011, 11:33 PM
Wow, I need to stop back in here more often - I'm behind on getting my digi-pooch fix! These are great - the puppy between the couch cushions, the bandana-wearing dog, and the Chilean sleeping guy all caught my eye.

Love the dingo and the last one on plain orange background

JTMB
03-22-2011, 09:01 PM
Had to check in on the digi-doggies, and glad I did - they're great and it is nice to see a down-under-Dingo-dog and pups. Maybe to keep that theme going you should incorporate a didgeridoo (spelling?) along with the dingos and the other digi-dogs.

DrDebby
03-22-2011, 09:35 PM
Quite a nice dog on that last one.

CandAlArt
03-30-2011, 08:35 PM

Here's #25. This is "Doc" from lisilk's WDE. I did one version with a plain bg and one with a busy bg. Which do you prefer?

mhimeswc
04-02-2011, 04:35 PM
Oh, I love these! You got better and better as you went along. My first favorite was # 9, and then I saw 11 which was just super, but #14 is my very favorite. He looks like he is shaking water off after a bath. :-)

eyepaint
04-02-2011, 04:49 PM
Michelle - thank you.

At Li's request, I've amended #25 to include a super dog cape.

DrDebby
04-02-2011, 09:12 PM
Super Dog! So fun. I think that's a marvelous addition.

Kema
04-02-2011, 11:39 PM
I couldn't decide between the other two versions, but I like Super Dog best. Lots of zing and feeling of action.

JTMB
04-03-2011, 01:48 AM

04-21-2011, 08:28 PM
These are so wonderful! Number nine was definitely my favourite - but number 14 made me think of Mr Mugs. Not sure who would remember him - he was a sheepdog in an elementary school reader in the 70's.

CandAlArt
04-22-2011, 01:45 PM
Love the 3 dogs in the car window. Third is my fave but the group would make a great framed triptych (tryptich? -Thing with 3 pictures!)
