I bought a book about flower painting by Helen Van Wyck. I have never been too good at flowers- they come across as stiff and artificial when I try to paint them, but this book helped me a lot.
It even explained how to set up your still life with the correct lighting, what colors to use in a background- I am generally so clueless.
I was pleased to be able to start a painting and finish it in the same day! And it looks a lot better than what I usually turn out. Please let me know what you think about this so I can do the next one better! :cat:

Hi Tina,
Nope,
Its Flower Painting the Helen Van Wyck Way, or somethin' like that. Thanks for your encouragement!! Had to do it in a day -the flowers were starting to turn... :)

Wow, I sure like this a lot and I am not really a fan of still life...you did a wonderful job handling this painting! I have that book of Helen's as well...all her books are a wealth of information!
Hope to see more of your work!!
Did you paint your tinyhead?

Hey Sonja!
Your workshop gave me the idea to do this painting! You have real, live models lined up? That is awesome.
I'll be there! :) I can't this Saturday but two weeks from then is looking good on the calendar. Just let me know when.
Thanks for looking, Liz and Artbabe...

Gorgeous tinyhead!! I have her flower, portrait & color recipe books so it's difficult to say since we all have different interests...
I can check later but I think she has one that has a little of everything in it so it gives you a well rounded look at her ideas, methods.
