CARICATURES

Let's try our hand at the long and the short, the squat and the tall, the big noses and the small noses, the beautifully grotesque and the beautifully simple. Do a copy of an old master's group of exagerated faces or study and be inspired by some contemporary work (movie stars, sports figures etal)

Better still do your own :D

and some others:

Covarrubias-The New Yorker late 1920's

I think the hardest to do are the perfect faces (Elizabeth Taylor) yet she has been caricatured many times. It's just finding that little something.

So Give it a try

Two of my favorites:

Al Hirschfeld

Hirschfeld had the perfect working life. Free lanced for The New York Times and met and hob-nobbed with all the celebrities he drew.

Levine also did the most incredible water colors of Coney Island.

Here is a drawing of Picasso's:

This is supposed to be the singer Akon. Nose not big enough.

Here's a caricature of Sylvester Stallone in Derwent Drawing Pencil in Pro-Art Sketchbook 4x6 inch.

Can't do color pencil pieces biggger than that. It'll take too long.

I don't know Akon, Sandra, but I like the drawing. The sketchy style of the clothes. Stallone is pretty good too. Like the long face. Please do some more.

You can also make up your own cast of characters if you want to.

This one is not really a caricature. If anything, I was trying to depict a quiet and docile moment of Obama - in pensive mode.

Painted about a year ago, when Tiger was having a few problems.

Loved seeing the new work, Sandra. I don't know Akon either. You caught the pensive mood well in the last one.

Lovely colourful work, Lawrence.

Lawrence - that is amazing - the angular eyebrows and the diagonal background - daring but you pulled it off with your usual flair
