A new project has been announced in the WetCanvas! project system!

Title: Feb/March Animal Art Project
Project Leader: animal
Relative Difficulty: Easy
Type Restrictions: Any Type
Medium: Any Medium
Subject: Wildlife
Days open for signups: Always
Maximum participants allowed: Unlimited

Description:

Using the reference image provided, produce your work of art.

Do show your progress images and tell us what techniques you are using to complete your work. If you like, you can do both images!

You can work in watercolors, oils, pastel, acrylics, or perhaps you want to draw or sculpt. Any medium you choose will be good for us to discuss.

I've started a thread in the Wildlife Forum so we can talk about our progress and share information.

Remember, you are to only use the reference images below.

The object of this project is to work from the reference photographs and for all of us to see how we all accomplish this task and to share our knowledge.

Be sure to post progress pics in the special thread, or inside this project, and be sure to tell us what you are doing and why.

Additional Information:

For more information on the project: Click here! (http://www.wetcanvas.com//Community/Projects/browse_details.php?proj_id=366)

Remember, in order to help keep the discussions on projects organized, you should post your questions, suggestions, and comments on submitted work here in this thread. By doing this, we allow other non-project efforts to not get "pushed down" by a swarm of project-related threads.

Hi Animal
I don't see the pic, either. Checked out the Ref. Lib - Wildlife to see if it was there, but didn't see...

Please post pic. I'd be interested in trying the project!

Hi All,
Before I can provide reference images I have to wait for it to be approved. I have just gotten online and saw it was approved, and have added the reference images.

Bummer Animal!
I already painted Benji (I am sure that doesn't count).

As for the other photo, there has been so much illness and death in my life, just in this New Year alone. I don't think I could stare at the poor deer/kangaroo?

I'll play in the next game! (As I said, bummer.)

I took this photo at the zoo, and skippy isn't dead, he's just basking in the sun :)

All kangaroos do this, so don't worry, he ain't dead :) - Just resting on a rather warm sunny day!! I know he looks dead and all, but I can assure you he isn't, because at the time I took the photo - he lifted up his head :)

Lisa Hi! I am sorry, I posted a reply - or at least I thought I had... must have closed the window in preview mode and thought I had hit "send". Wasn't until Animal mentioned your thread to me, did I realize my reply wasn't here!

What I wanted to say, was I guess I can try it. If I keep telling myself the kangaroo is fine, I'll be fine. =)

Okay Animal I want to play!

This is my effort at painting Benji. It is on Oil painting paper and measures 9"x 11". The photograph is very dark and it is hard to see the detail.

This is so unusual...a tole painters version! That must be difficult to render. The likeness is exceptional...it's just a shame it is so hard to see. I even went to the project page to see if the original entry was any clearer. Is it possible to take a better picture in a brighter light, if you are using a digital camera you can experiment. Try one indoors under tube lighting one outdoors and one indoors with a flash! You should get one that is light enough:D

Gina,

Thank you for the kind words. I have completed the picture and hope I have a better one to post. I had it scanned and that seemed to work out better.

I have it posted in the final project forum but wasnt sure if I should post it here also. Well I hope someone will let me know if I'm doing this all wrong. :)

Please feel free to comment. I can use all the suggestions I can get.

Thanks

Hi Nudmfree2
That was well worth the extra effort posting another version... this is fantastic. I am working on my laptop and hubby has just had a first look at all the postings. He thinks all the paintings are so good. He is not usually interested, but as Benji was his dog I said it only fair he had a look!
