What - no-one here yet?

01-21-2011, 03:10 AM
Ok I'm here - you woke me up

Good morning Nola and all to follow.

We are under a high pressure system at the moment, so we have still, cold mornings with fog. Temperature is hovering above freezing due to cloud cover.

Southport Palette Club exhibition starts today at Bootle Town Hall, hope I can get to see it, there are always several hundred entries and the standard is high.

We have a talk on the history of St Paul's Cathedral tonight and Ruth will present a cheque to the Parkinsons society - money she raised from selling her dogs.

Be good, be healthy.

01-21-2011, 03:11 AM
Thank heavens you're here Nola!!! I was going to say that!

Darn ... pipped at the post again ... sulky icon needed.

Hope all is well in the dry and really really hot West!

Nothing much today .. supermarket shopping after being waved though another landslip cleanup by traffic controllers, cleaning (NOT much!!), finishing painting (NOT walls ... or ceilings .. though I wish I hadn't looked up this afternoon .. I hate ceilings) ... mowed 3/4 of our 1 acre lawns .. so I am pooped or something more colourful than that.

DH was surprised and pleased ... " Don't the lawns look lovely when they're mowed? " We do have attack the neglected vege patch tomorrow so his day will come  ... tomorrow!

 to all following. I even remembered to put on a slow cook meal. Domestic goddess or what!!!?

WHAT!!!

Hi Doug

Bridget .. I hope you aren't coming down with the same lurgie as your partner. :crossfingers:

ONA .. get and STAY better!!!

OK Will Robinson .. memory banks have been annihilated (sorry, that is Darleks .. I get confused in my sci-fi life  ) .. BUT I'm "totalled" and so ... am off.

Morning to All

It is 3:30am here in Ohio. A chilly 12 degrees and I would guess about 5 inches of SNOW.

Watched American Idol last night and really like Stephen Tyler and J Lo as judges. Stephen Tyler has to be the coolest 62 yo!!!

Then watched the last Housewives of Beverley Hills. They sure lead a different life style.

Just took an Alieve so hope it kicks in soon - guess I'll go read some until it does.

will check in later --- I don't rem reading anything from Sylvia yesterday. If they had a base visit I'll bet they had a time getting there and back.

01-21-2011, 04:11 AM
Evening each:wave:
am just about to say goodnight, am feeling very sleepy.
Have had a good day, home and out and about, and a hard work-out at the gym, hence the tiredness:)
Made a yummy black currant pie tonight using the blackcurrants that John picked from the garden. Still some left over for tomorrow night, unless there's a thief in the night lol.

Have a good Friday and w/end everyone.
Thinking especially of Ona. ((( )))
Christine is not far from our thoughts and prayers either Sylvia, hoping for positive results. Also a good recovery for Larry.

And anyone else in need ((( ))).

Keep meaning to look up that cat bacteria Bill, can you tell us again please? Have never heard of that happening in NZ.

01-21-2011, 04:21 AM

Lulu look HERE (http://www.cat-world.com.au/cat-scratch-disease) and HERE (http://familydoctor.org/online/famdocen/home/healthy/firstaid/bites/024.html) for info on Cat Scratch Disease. Having been a recipient of this disease, thanks to Tania's cat, I can tell you it is very unpleasant. I had a relapse a coupl,e of times, but am ok now, touch wood!!!

01-21-2011, 04:22 AM
Morning all......

No I have not just got up!......had a mixed night with a long gap in middle but have been out and about into town for milk and papers already,

Like Doug we have heavy frost although no fog this morning...only that eye level sun which blinds you....

Waiting for a visitor from London, at present in York, and calling here en route further North, but only after he has shown his daughter the magnificance of York Minster......should be here late morning just before we leave with the caravan.

Back before we go..

01-21-2011, 04:54 AM
Good Heavens, first there was no-one here, now there's mobs of you.

Hi Doug, I'll try not to type so loudly next time. Your weather is giving me goosebumps.:)

Hi Annie, we have put all of our lawn behind us. Can't look after it when you are away for 5 months of the year. We have paving of assorted kinds and large garden beds with mostly easy care plants in them. Out front where the lawn used to be, we have a large circular raised garden with various succulents and centered by a gorgeous golden shower tree in full flower at the moment. Unfortunate they don't have a thumbs down icon for mowing. Not really that hot today, 32c at the moment and very dry with it.

Hi Anita and Lulu:wave:

Hi JJ, thanks for the info today, I will make time tomorrow to try out your suggestion.

Lucky you Geoff, still a lot of sleeps before we get to take off in our caravan.:(

DH had an eye specialist appt today. Nothing serious, just his two year diabetes eyecheck. Doesn't seem to be any problems except the start of cataracts. Boy, they see you coming with the bill! The real problem with the visit is that I had to drive home and DH kept up a running commentary about the surrounding traffic, traffic lights, indicators, speed limits etc. etc. etc. Think I'll gag him next time I drive!

That's about all I can come up with today. Hope all of you that I haven't mentioned realise that I have read, laughed at, felt sad etc their last posts. Have a great day. Cheers, Nola.

PS Does anyone know of a really good free World Clock I can download that will tell me what time it is in everyone's part of the world?

01-21-2011, 06:07 AM
 HAPPY BIRTHDAY ALLAN J. How did your day go??:clap:

Good for you Nola.

Have a great trip Geoff.

01-21-2011, 06:13 AM
Morning all from snowy VT! time to drive to work in it again, the 3rd time in a week and a half! Til later! Have a great day all!

01-21-2011, 06:20 AM
Well about to do something that hurts.....paying my Income Tax online!

The way my business was set up I pay in January and July but as the business ceased on my retirement at the start of this tax year this should be the last payment against it...........won't be paying any against Art sales this year!!

Have fun, will look in via iPod during weekend.

01-21-2011, 06:32 AM
Good Morning all,
It is a little before 6:30 a.m. here in chilly and snow covered Oakwood. It snowed steadily all day yesterday from 7:00 a.m. until after 7:00 p.m. Haven't measured it yet, but it looks like we got about 5" here. Fortunately, Robert came over with his snow blower and cleared our driveway and walkway to the door.

We stayed home all day yesterday, but have to drive in to the Base Hospital this afternoon for a Physical Therapy session for Larry. I'm keeping my :crossfingers: that the roads will be safer to drive on by noon today.

I talked to Christine last night and she hadn't heard anything from the hospital yet. If she doesn't get a call this morning, she will call them. You can imagine how nerve-wracking this waiting is...for her AND for me. :o Thanks for keeping Chris and Larry in your prayers and thoughts. I appreciate it very, very much.

:music:HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO ALLAN (ALLAN JAMESON) TODAY!:music: Hope you have a wonderful, dry day today and a grand year ahead.

When I watched that scene of the cars and the flood in yesterday's Wash, I thought the same thing Doug did. At the beginning, when the waters began to rise, why didn't someone announce the threat on the company sound system so the people parked in that lot would have a chance to do something. Early on when the water was just beginning to breach the banks, they could have moved their cars like the one guy did. Once the waters started their rapid rise it was too late. Water is such a powerful force, it is amazing.

 to all who were here before me and to those still on their way.

01-21-2011, 08:16 AM
Nola, I use this website for WORLD CLOCK and saved it to my favorites.

I had to   at you "gagging" your DH next time....that'll teach him to be a back seat driver.

Sylvia, drive carefully this afternoon. (((LARRY))) (((CHRISTINE)))

You too if you go out Anita!

LuLu, you are too FUNNY! Glad your lawns look GREAT!

Hello Doug, it's CLEAR AND COLD here and the moon shining this morning was delicious. Crisp and only 5F!:o

I think Larry has to work tomorrow so maybe I'll get to paint.

Thinking of our dear (((ONA)))

I hope all those hurting will accept these gentle hugs:grouphug: and my prayers for speedy recoverys.

01-21-2011, 08:21 AM
:crossfingers: Fingers crossed everything is OK with Christine, Sylvia. Safe journey to the base this afternoon.

Happy Birthday Allan and many of 'em.

01-21-2011, 08:36 AM
Good morning on this last day of the work week... wow, eh? It's cold out at -12C/10F, but with little wind and the sun shining it isn't all that bad. Matt was out the door early to be to his Clinical session by 7:00 because the roads are snow packed and a little slippery.

The snow began to fall late yesterday afternoon and I was worried about my Students driving through it just to come to class... they did... my class is full with 15 of them and it's going to be a ton of fun. I have 9 people that are returning from previous classes which I find very affirming. With a class that large, I found that I was on my feet for the entire session (nearly 3 hours) and I was pretty tired... a good tired...

So... today will be something of a lazy day... I need to tidy up my studio area... and unpack all my stuff... If I'm going to continue teaching workshops, I really need to create a second set of materials so I don't have to pack and unpack every week.

So... ((Bridget))... Dawn likes to share, eh? I'm hoping she really didn't share her terrible cold with you!

Doug, that's such a nice thing that Ruth has done! She put a lot of work into making up those dogs and I hope the sold well!

Annie... I'm always amazed that you find as much time as you do to paint! Yours is sure a busy and full schedule! No wonder you're *pipped*...

Hi Anita... I was able to see some of the first night's auditions on Idol and also liked Stephen Tyler...

G'nite Lulu... I've only had black currants in jam... and not really fussy on it...

Geoff, our trailer is under several inches of snow and probably frozen to the pavement where it's parked! Here's :crossfingers: for some good sleeps while you're away...

Nola! Congratulations on starting the Wash... I  at your husband's running commentary while you drove him home... my own husband hates it when I drive because he says that people will see him in the passenger seat and think that he lost his licence...

Sylvia... drive carefully on your way to the Base... The stress of worry about Christine's biopsy has to be staggering... You're all in my thoughts!!!

 Reggie, JJ, Darla and all yet to come! I hope that everyone has the best possible day...

EDIT: Hey! I forgot to wish Allan a Happy Birthday!

01-21-2011, 09:11 AM
Good Morning Everyone!!!

-18C with windchill. No sun to compensate.

I was all dressed up and had nowhere to go. DIL was to go to an early morning meeting and the kids were to come over for me to take them to school. Seems the kids played up so much getting dressed that she couldn't get them out of the house in time for her meeting. So, no meeting and DIL took them to school herself:rolleyes: :D

I have no big plans for today so will do a bit of painting. I did decide on a background colour for my calla lilies, am going to try a slightly darkened raw sienna.

One of my friends suggested I bring in a few branches of my forsythia bush for early spring blooms. I did, and it took two weeks but they are blooming:thumbsup:

Sylvia, I was waiting yesterday for a post by you telling us that the biopsy was negative. Letting people wait like that is CRUELTY!! I have actually heard, just a couple of weeks ago, that someone did a study on just how much stress this waiting creates and that the doctors really need to be more compassionate in this respect. I have everything crossed for good news!!

Lulu, blackcurrent jam is my favourite, but I too haven't really eaten the berries in any other form.

Char, 15 students, that's like teaching at the Ontario Meet all over again:) I just KNOW that they will all produce a wonderful painting thanks to YOU!! You will have a waiting list for your workshops, just remember I TOLD YOU SO quite some time ago!!!!! Ted is showing his age with his thoughts on "women" in the drivers seat:rolleyes: :D I have many times observed wifes comeing to pick up their husband's at work, as she waits for him to arrive she switches over to the passenger seat.

Geoff, finally getting to your caravan meet!!! Enjoy!!!

Anita, I don't watch either program so can't comment. Keeping fingers crossed for you too for getting positive responses to your job applications.

Annie, I thought the same thing that Char did, you sure squeeze a lot of activity into your day.

Bridgit, I hope the cold swept right past you!!

Doug, Hug for Ruth for being so kind!! My kind thoughts never did materialize, at least not yet.

 to Darla, JJ, Reggie, Nola and all yet to come!!!

01-21-2011, 09:44 AM
Good Luck Sylvia and Larry. I see the base is on a two hour delay and the whole Ohio Valley is a mess. (appts are surely going to be backed up!) Be safe!

Morning Washers from a snowy - 9 C Island Grove.

I have just been on the phone with the veterinarian's office. Koty had a seizure in the middle of the night. Grand Mal style which took him a while to re orientate from.. Tired Boy this morning.. Not an uncommon occurrence in canines but still quite scary. Fortunately, I have witnessed these many many years ago and knew what and what not to do. He has an appointment at 3:30 this afternoon.

Plans on hold for the moment regarding heading south.
We either have to be back before the 12th of Feb. or wait until the 28th as pups are expected on the 14th. We shall see what the vet has to say.

Annie, I too love that fresh mowed lawn look and smell.

Sylvia, in Ontario the report is usually faxed to her primary care physician or the specialist who ordered the biopsy.. usually within 48 hours. Perhaps she should call which ever one is appropriate.

Happy Birthday Allan ! Hope you had a wonderful day !

Bridget, get well soon!

Uschi, I look forward to seeing the finish !!

Char, that sounds like a wonderfully fun class.

Darla, enjoy your weekend whatever you do.

:grouphug: Ona :grouphug:

We slept in this morning and it is already 10:30 so I will  to all and BBL

01-21-2011, 10:33 AM
Happy birthday Allan

Sylvia, I'm crossing fingers for Christine too. I hope she hears soon.

:grouphug:Thanks for the hugs both yesterday and today. Did you know its international hug day today? :grouphug:

I've just about had enough of doctors. They tell me i have one thing yesterday and then they phone up first thing this morning (just as i chatted to you JJ thats why i was a bit shell shocked) so apparently today its not fibromyalgia apparently some test has come back late yesterday and its neuropathy instead ... I wonder what tomorrows diagnosis will be??? grrrrrrr:mad:

Please dont worry if i'm not around much. I'll pop in when i can but life is just a bit crazy here at the moment.

edit: give Koty a hug from me Gail. I hope he's ok

Ellen in Ont

 everyone,
I'm late in here today because I purposely kept myself in bed as long as I could stand it because I'm nightshift tonight and the rest of the weekend. It is overcast here but bright. The windchill is -39 (-40 is the same temp in F or C). Very typical for this time of year. Once we are over the next two week stretch we know that spring is coming (only 3 months away:lol: ).

Happy birthday to Allan. Hope you have a great year ahead.

Sylvia - hope you hear some good news from Christine soon.

Gail - I hope Koty is OK.

Char - I'm sure your students love your classes and learn so much.

Uschi - enjoy those early blossoms.

Lulu and JJ - I think the infection Bill had was from a different bacteria - Pasteurella something. It is different from Cat Scratch Fever.

I can't remember anything more and I really have to get moving. I want to finish my painting this morning. Sorry to those I've missed.

Here's a hug for international hug day.:grouphug:

01-21-2011, 12:00 PM
Good morning Washers!
:grouphug: Ona:grouphug: !! Looks like you're getting the malady de jour treatment...if they aren't sure they ought to wait until they ARE sure!! All the confusion and worry they generate surely is not doing you any good! Sending you powerful healing vibes and hoping they get through the storm!!

Yesterday was Anne's mom's funeral, it was very tough not to be there. Anne and Amanda said it was beautiful, moving and meaningful. I spent a good portion of the day in meditation and reflection..

Happy Birthday to Allan, hope you enjoy many more!!

Needed no alarm clock to wake me this morning...Scuppers knows his brekkies is at 0530...so if I have not gotten up to feed him by then he "bounces" me until I do! Where did HE learn to tell time!! Oddly enough, once he's fed (and I'm UP)...he takes MY spot on the bed for his morning snoozie! Hmmm who's the pet and who's the master around here???

Raining steadily here, mid 40's F and more of the same in sight. Typical winter day in the Great Northwet! Forecast is "off and on showers" which translates to "if you go out...you're gonna get wet"!

Nola, sounds like a low maintenance yard is fun! still I'd miss the smell of fresh mown grass in the spring! Looked in some of our gardens spaces yesterday and saw the daffodils are poking through and well on their way as the heralds of spring here...my favorite flower!

Annie, you need a "go to" list of quick fix dinners that you can whip up in 30 minutes or less!

Anita I don't watch ANY of those shows, I like OLD movies :D

LuLu, your life certainly sounds Idyllic at this point! Have never had blackcurrant pie...but I'll wager it does not see morning if it's any good!!

JJ...that's why I like dogs.....they're NOT cats!:D

Geoff, have a good weekend in the Caravan! Or are you going for longer than that?? Do you have TV in the caravan?

Oops, MY Annie just called and we had a nice long chat on how she's doing...I'll bet I'm crossposting with someone now!!:wink2:

My Anne says there's about 6 inches of fresh new snow on the lawn and the world looks like her Christmas village! Makes me glad I'm NOT there to shovel it!!

Sylvia, if I were Christine I'd be calling for the results as well! Hope the roads are clear for you to get to the base today!!

Darla...HAPPY FRIDAY!! Hope you get to paint this weekend!!

Char, I'm not surprised at all that your class is full to the brim! I'd take it if I were close enough! Still 3 hours on your feet...ugh!! Do you do a demo and let them paint for awhile to work on what you taught?? maybe if they worked for 20 mins on their own before you started walknig around you'd get a bit of recuperating in!:wink2: Maybe I'll take photos of my "travelling studio" for you!

Uschi..do you sometimes paint the background first when you do flowers??

Caryl, I see it's warmer HERE than it is THERE on the Emerald Coast!

Gail, poor Koty! I hope you can keep him comfortable! How old is he?? We only had one dog in all our years that had a seizure and he was 14 at the time!

Well it's 9 am here and I SHOULD start getting something done...but I think I may have a second cup of coffee (or tea) and think about that......maybe I'll go down to my studio and paint today...maybe.....

01-21-2011, 12:30 PM
Hi folks! It's lunchtime. Got here ok this am but it was quite slick. We got about 5-6 in of snow. We have had 56 inches in the last 2 wks!! Tonight it is going to get really cold -8F and tomorrow -16F!!! Brrr....

Tonorrow i have a haircut appt at noon and then will frive to Rutland to Hannaford's for groceries. Will watch a movie tomorrow night and relax. Suinday i am going to join the Spa (gym) at the Inn at Castle Hill. I need the exercise! I love the machines. I am going to paint in the afternoon!!! Haven't done any in 2 wks!!UGH!!!

Ladt night got a nice call from my cousin Cathy in Atlanta, GA. We chatted fro over an hour and caught up on all the family news. Very enjoyable!

Gail- i am sorry aobut Kolty's seizure. Our last dog Alex had them for many years. He had to take Phenobarbital which worked very well in preventing them.

Ona- hope your infection clears up soon. Medicine is not finite and clear cut as people think and making a diagnosis is often very hard. Bear with the docs. I am sure their intentions are good.

Hap- glad your MIL's service went well. Too bad you couldn't be there with Annie.

gotta run!

Til later!

Sunny and 55 here! Works for me !

01-21-2011, 02:41 PM
Well, Larry called me and now they are NOT working tomorrow. DARN was looking forward to the extra $$:( Oh well I'll put him to work cleaning up the basement laundry room.

(((ONA))) I think neuropathy is similar to fibro isn't it? You poor thing....you've sure confused many doctors in the past year haven't you? You can tell us not to worry but it's kind of hard not to.:grouphug:

((HAP))) I'm glad Anne and Amanda were pleased with your MIL'S funeral service. Memorial's are a nice time to honor the life of the deceased. I'm sure you miss the ladies though. LOL at Scuppers taking over your bed.:D

Caryl 55 isn't all that warm but I know this frigid weather is dipping into the middle of the USA.

Reggie, WHOOPEE for FRIDAY! Enjoy your weekend. That's a LOT of snow.

Hello there Uschi, have fun painting your BG!

Char, wish I lived closer and could be a student of yours.:envy:

Ellen, sorry you have to work all weekend.

I need more tea.....and for the afternoon to fly by...

01-21-2011, 05:46 PM
Early evening, it was a nice but very windy (cold) day and I stayed inside.

In the morning it snowed and then the sun came out and it was beautiful. Unfortunately I had to put the blinds down a bit because I was working on the computer and painting and the sun shines smack into my eyes.

My background is done, HURRAY and HALLELUJA and I actually like it:clap:

Hap, you asked if I ever paint the background first, answer, NO NEVER:lol: I did try it a couple of times, a long time ago, but I am incabable of imagining what the flower would look like with a particular background, I have to see the painted flower first before I can make the judgement. For instance, I would never have chosen a background with raw sienna/a bit of blue and a bit of black beforehand. Another reason is that I paint a lot of white flowers and if the background is dark it tends to run into the flower.

I am glad the funeral is over and was so nice, time for Annie to come home:heart: Quite the doggie you have there:lol:

Darla, poor Larry:D he probably wished he could have been at work.

Reggie, now that you are working again your weekends are really busy.

Ellen, great (almost) finish to Shania:clap:  that's COLD!!

:grouphug:Ona :grouphug: I guess Reggie has a good point, still I wish they could figure it out and could do something about it!!

GAIL does that mean you are looking to get another puppy:confused:   Poor Koty!!!!

Caryl, I'll wait until summer to hear you suffering:evil: :D

Sylvia, you are making me very nervous!!!!

Bridgit, snuggling is good!!!!!

I was starving, stuffed myself with feta, crackers and chilli jelly and now I have no desiere for supper:rolleyes:

Hi All,

Back from the Vet. Koty loves the Vet and is always co operative. Cause of the seizure is inconclusive at the moment. A ton of blood work is being analyzed. Could be anything from a thyroid problem to a brain tumour. Doc Woodley also said most dogs will have at least one seizure in their lives so hopefully this was Koty's. Time will tell. Other than the seizure Koty is extremely healthy for 10.5 years.

Reggie, unless he has more seizures or the blood work shows something he doesn't want to prescribe any meds.

Uschi, NO we are not getting another puppy. Kim, our breeder, where we board the dogs gave us those available dates Although the pups will be born and live for the first month of their lives in her apt., Kim just doesn't want external dogs in the kennel when there are new born pups.

It is time to make something for dinner.. It is going to be an easy one.

01-21-2011, 07:57 PM
Hi Buds... Brrrrrrrr... cold as a witch's heart down here... the snow makes that neat crunchy sound with each footstep... :) Never mind Caryl, it'll warm up soon here...

Ted bought me an organizer meant for nuts and bolts, and I finally sorted my paint tubes, brushes and pens... now maybe I'll be able to keep track of what I have on hand and when I need to re-order my tubes.

Then we watched one of the dvd's that I received as a Christmas gift... The Big Bang Theory... it's a show on tv about a group of nerdy friends and a pretty girl... we laughed and laughed... good medicine for the soul...

It's our "Fishy Friday", so we made up a nice battered fish, oven french fries and a salad. I've been craving protein, so the fish really hit the spot!

Okay Uschi... you have to show us your paintings... :)

OhMyGawd, Gail! Poor, poor big sucky baby Koty! I'll bet you and Dan were sure scared, too... I'm glad he's ok, now...

International hug day, eh? Here's one ((Ona))...

I haven't looked at your easel in a couple of days, Ellen... I'll go and check out Shania's big finish! I'll bet she's beautiful...

((Hap and Anne)) My heart is with you... I don't just demo... I work up a lesson plan from my wip that I always paint ahead of time. Then, I paint the composition again along with my Class... it really helps them to visualize their own progress and how to approach each step... the Gallery prints out the lesson plans for me to distribute, along with a good quality line drawing.

It sounds like you have a really nice day planned for tomorrow, Reggie!

I hope you started feeling some better as the day progressed, Bridget...

My Sister and BIL are going to be heading this way tomorrow... according to our weather prognosticators, we have a 95% chance of snow accumulation... We'll just have to keep an eye on things, I guess...

In the meantime, I hope everyone has a good night, or a happy morning...

01-21-2011, 09:08 PM
ONA! Enormous hugs ! My little sister has cervical neoropathy! She's miserable. She cannot affort the shots that make it better for a bit (insurance doesn't cover 20%, leaving quite a chunk for her to pay of the 2300$ for each shot - she needs 6 at a go.) AND they won't pay for the surgery at all until she's tried the full series of 5 sets of shots ! UGH.

01-21-2011, 09:26 PM
Congratulations Char, on a successful workshop. You go girl!!!!!
