Hi All,
does somebody know, or has somebody a document/example, how you can make you're own frame, to frame a canvas? I am trying to find a hands on, that descripes how to make you're own frame.
Many thanks in advance,
Old Tex

Hi John, you might check out this forum: http://www.wetcanvas.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=201
I didn't even know it existed until your question. I suspect there's a lot of good info in there.

Hi John,
I have made a couple of oak floater frames to fit gallery wrapped canvas in them. Here is a link to my blog showing the process.

Here is my first handmade frame (framed with one of my latest paintings)
The quality of the photo is poor (had to use my Iphone because my photo camera is in repair)
Made it from wood with help of Ron's examples on his blog.
Painted it 3 coats of black to finish it off

Hi John,
Hey, that's a good looking frame you made. I like the raised edges and inner lip. I'm toying with the idea of making a plein air frame but the finish is something I'm not sure about. I can build the wood frame but then would need to find some sort of fancy molding to do the edges or corners. The biggest worry is that I've never used gold leaf and wonder what the cost of building vs the cost of just buying one is....sometimes it makes more sense to just buy the darned things.
I like using a black frame with paintings that have a lot of blue in them. Just like using gold frames with paintings with a lot of green. Those color combinations always work. Nice work on the frame John.

Hi Ron, Thank you for the compliment.
The black color was a idea from my wife. First i did not liked it, but now when it was done, i like it. Buying is easier but also more expensive. But now I have made one by myself, it gives more joy during the whole process, from creating the painting untill finishing with youre own created frame.
I am currently making another one. It has a lot of blue in the painting (sky/mountains) I think, I will caot this one wiht gold as mentioned by you.
