Same thorough note-taking as the last thread!
Today he demonstrated a Seascape in oils. Eight pages of notes. Enjoy! They're useful in almost any medium. I repeated some of his main points even though I noted them before in case someone starts with these.

I loved the way he did the rain strokes. My approximation with pens doesn't do it justice but does show the direction of the strokes.

Another example of Melodic Line vs. wavy line for those just starting with JV.

Wave anatomy diagram. I love this.

Thank you! So glad they help. Got nine pages of them today too, with more visual examples since I got down much of the text yesterday - and some things that I couldn't fit in yesterday and wanted to.

Color again! This also completely fills up that sketchbook. I'm going through them at a furious rate and need to reorder some that size in February!

Great information. Thank you for sacrificing your sketchbooks to bring this information in a condensed form to us.

Thank you for reading and enjoying them! Today I switched to an 8 1/2" x 11" sketchbook since I have run out of the 5" x 8" size ones. I'll have to get a new one - or continue in this format since I seem to take up fewer pages with it.

"don't make peaks round like potatoes" - hahahaha!
Seriously - thanks Robert for sharing your wonderful notes for those who cannot make it to the webinars :) :) :)

Thank you both!
Three pages of notes from today's Pastel Video finishes up this thread. I'll start a new one for the notes on Johannes Vloothuis's WC Live! class "Paint Glorious Landscapes from Photos."
That class starts tomorrow at 3PM Eastern Time, 2PM Central Time (USA)
I used a Bienfang Notesketch that has a column of blue lined paper for writing and a right side column of blank white paper for sketching. I like that, it encourages sketching and the pages are so big I don't have to scan as many - or go to two posts just to get the day's notes in!

Page one has color notes in Polychromos pastel on the plain sketch paper. For texture, I did the square strokes in miniature with the ends of square sticks. That works too. Fat square sticks like Terry Ludwig can work like the sides of others.

Back to the Pitt Pens on this page. Trees came out very dark because I overlaid violet and yellow ochre on them.

Tried to stay away from deep dark combos on this page.
