View Full Version : Can Liquin and Microcrystaline Wax be used together?

Hi Everyone, I'd like to know if I can use Liquin and Microcrystaline wax together as a medium for my oil painting? If so, how much (total percent against the paint itself)? I've been an encaustic painter for years, and used strict oil as well, but I want to combine the two, especially in the case of cold wax paintings, where I can use the liquin to thin the paint (along with some thinner of course). Thanks Very Much, shawn

Hey shawn ,
I use Dorlands or gamblin coldwax with liquin a lot - not too much in proportion if its going on a fabric support though . On panel I bet you could go nuts with it if you wanted ...

I have been using home made mediums of liquin, beeswax and turpentine in different proportions for some months now. They work just fine and are perfect for a matte and texture finish that dries quickly.

Odd Nerdrum is facing a jail sentence because......well, it's a long story, let's just say it started with his mixing medium and wax. After a few years.....etc. etc.
