Using magazine pics as explanation

Is it possible to scan photos from a magazine article to use in a forum discussion to illustrate a point, mentioning the magaznine and artist? One photo would be the photo the artist used, and the other her painting of that scene.

Maybe if you give full credit to the [b]publication[/] as well as the photographer...

It doesn't say who the photographer is, but I have to presume it's the artist as it's shown in the context of a step-by-step painting.
