Some of you I've seen through pictures on your tinyheads....some of you I've seen through pictures posted in other threads. It's so nice to put a name with a face. So those of you that are interested...let's see the faces of the pastel forum!!

This is me...otherwise known as KarenU...quick snapshot from a recent trip to the east coast to visit family.

hehehe thanks Chooky! Blonde...with just a bit of strawberry! :D You're the one that inspired me to start this thread...between your new tinyhead (which looks marvelous!) and these WC portraits you've been doing I thought it would be fun to "see" others we talk with everyday.

Great idea Karen. You are very photogenic! My tiny head is as much of me as I'm going to post, not being photgenic at all. But it will be fun to see what others look like!

Fun idea....although I do feel with some of the tiny heads I already have "met" people!

This is me with longer hair...don't have a really recent one since I decided I can't be bothered sitting there getting perms and having to blow dry the mess. :D Short and sweet now. Well, short anyhow! :D

Good idea Karen!

Hi Sandy, Hi Redsy, Karen - I got a glimpse of you before.

This is really great to see what everyone looks like.

Well here I am at the last Art Show with some of my photography and pastels. Whew - I'm sure glad I dropped those 10 pounds since then.

Oh boy, this is great! It's got me running around looking for a pic - realize I don't have many of myself. Then I have to go downstairs and get the scanner from my partner's computer. May take a bit, but I'll be back!

As Karen says, some of you I recognize through tinyheads, and another through a portrait (guess who), but it's just terrific to see all these faces we converse with. Keep them coming.

Wow, this thread is wonderful! Don't think I need to post a pic, my tinyhead shows me (at my best ... often look more scruffy and tired than this!), and it is really mind-blowing to put faces to all your names. I really like it when I learn someone's proper name too, instead of code names, which somehow make people seem very odd and other-worldly, like something out of a fantasy book. "Crumbledbrains", for instance, conjures up this wierd guy, with wild crazy staring eyes, who you would NOT want to meet on a dark night.

It is so nice to see you girls "properly". I feel we could all be friends now. Come on, the guys, where are you?

Its great having a face to associate with all those names that I forget anyway. :-)

I looked around, I don't have any recent pictures of me, I'll keep looking.

But I was wondering if these photos could be placed somewhere where they could be more easily referenced and indexed?? (Ok, I'm a computer geek.) I'd like to be able to go back and refresh my memory of people's faces.

This is so much fun! You people have really become a part of my life lately, so it's interesting to see what you look like.

I haven't been around much lately; just returned from spending the holidays in Europe (including 27 hours at the airport in Copenhagen, for added pleasure). So I'm still trying to catch up on all the posts, everybody sure has been busy at the computer as well as the easel!

Here's me by Lake Ontario on our Memorial Day trip to Niagara Falls (note especially the posture, I always look like a lost macaroni):
http://www.wetcanvas.com/Community/images/14-Jan-2003/13872-gurochester.jpg
(Btw this picture is very flattering in a certain area - I've stopped nursing since then and now am flat as a matboard)

And this is Halloween (obviously) with my li'l monsters:
http://www.wetcanvas.com/Community/images/14-Jan-2003/13872-gunilsaxel7.jpg

Now please don't think I'm 21 or something - I'm quite grown up and I'll be 32 next time.

Again - great to really see you ladies, and gentlemen of course!

Lulu, the bungy jump was at Queenstown. I didn't think about it too much until just a second AFTER I jumped! Tim said I was one of the more 'interesting' jumps. The 'sky screamer' was much worse.

Well, here's what happens when you wait too long to get your posting in...you get old, LOL! And you discover you are a very boring person who does not do yoga or bungie jump (praise the Lord!) and is rearely found without various grandchildren hanging off her. I am NOT very photogenic, but felt it was unfair not to share after enjoying meeting all your faces.

Once upon a time, I was a happening kind of busy career woman, always fashionably dressed and coiffed with make-up expertly applied. One of the few joys of being medically retired was being able to give up all those frilly things...here's just plain me:

This is fantastic. I had no idea there were so many of us out there.

Guillaume - great to meet you. (nice robe)

Mikki - comfort is my favorite thing. I too left the corporate world to wear my painting clothes and can't think of a thing wrong with it.

Carole, saw that bungy jump thing on a visit to Queensland and knew it wasn't for me. Boy are you brave.

Nicole - another smiling face to greet us - cool.

Grendelin, Those have to be the cutest monsters I've ever seen. Love their costumes and yes - you do look young and I'm jealous.

Luvy, my body is sore just watching you.

Hi Laura, We need to see a close up of those wonderful beads around your neck.

Chris, Can I go to France with you too?

Julsiebear - nice to meet you. What sponges?

Can't wait to see who appears next...... Barb

While we're on the quitting corporate thing, I did that in '85 and became a freelance writer for over 10 years, and then switched to painting! As we all agree it seems, not having to worry about the wardrobe and makeup is the best kind of freedom. I have one dress and it has to do for both weddings and funerals!

gredelin
01-15-2003, 08:59 AM
You are all gorgeous. Probably more so without the corporate dress code :D!

Chris - yes the boys look confused and they had every right to be: You wake up from your nice morning nap, to find Mom has gone bonkers, jamming your poor sleepy body into some kind of animal suit... with a tail! Humiliating! And then she paints your face, hauls you to the car and drives you off to some weird place where you have to sit on hay - all before you have time to rub your eyes.
They cheered up eventually, though.

Carol - that bungee jump! Iiiiih! I wouldn't do it to save my life - but I dreamt last night I did it, from a plane! Must have been your pics.

Yes it's supposed to be i spent along time overseas in france and french colonies in africa and as william is my english name i sort of acquired the french name over the years but over the last 12 years i have'nt spoken or written a lot of french and i made a slight spelling mistake it should be GUILLAUME by the time i realised it was too late so i left it as is:D

Yeah gals and guys, I would do the bungy again - but with a harness next time so I can stay upright, and I will be sure to do it at 12noon again to make sure the bungy is the right elasticity.;)
Nic, my son, wants to do a tandem one with me..that's fine.
I watched the making of the Two Towers (Lord of the Rings) tonight. It was made in NZ. A couple of the actors did the bungy as well, but it was much higher than mine.

Don't know...I'll have to find out. I expect that the powers that be probably wouldn't want to make this a sticky considering the flow and ebb of people coming and going, along with the fact that sticky's, I would expect, should be more medium specific. (technique, demo, project, etc. etc.) I'll let you know. :D

Given how many stories one reads in the newspapers about internet wierdos, it is so REFRESHING to see all your pics and see that behind these odd code names are some super people!! I just love it. I feel that if ever there was a WC convention, I would be meeting real people, not odd bods from Mars with names like rd2ruin (sorry, rd2ruin) which conjures up a less-than-inviting image, let's face it!

I feel very lucky to be involved with a community of lovely people, who care so much about painting, and about helping each other. (except for the gorilla, that is. I do hope its intentions are honourable, but I doubt it.)

Hi folks...back from SUMMER holiday & back to homeschooling my dear son...it's great to see some more pics of folk here. I don't think it's fair that BK doesn't show any wrinkles on such a close up shot - we older ones have the camera back a bit - seems like a good trick.;)
..oh and what a lucky girlfriend to have Dan show up at her party wearing a knot-yer-own-bow-tie! Very suave Dan. Gosh - if I have more than one glass of wine I end up 'inside myself looking out'! I am a cheap date.:D

Lots of more pictures - fun fun fun :D!

Hi Dan - you get extra credits for posting a pic in pleine air action!
And Dan3 - great photo with the paintings behind you.
I lived in Seattle once too (Kirkland), when I was nine... My dad was part of an engineering exchange, he spent a year at Boeing while a bunch of Americans got to enjoy the nice coffee breaks at Saab in Linköping, Sweden. I remember people talking about rain, but for us it was an improvement, weatherwise.

Morning Birdie - hope the workload gets lighter soon. I agree with Barb; posting a photo before coffe is very brave indeed.

Sundiver - that photo of Julie is just adorable! (And where can I get a couple of those leashes? My guys are walking now!!)

Hi Agnes, you look great (and I can see you got your coffe before posting)!

Shari, BK, Ciarrai - nice to see you - you are beautiful people.

i'm in Brisbane, Qld! Thanks for the comments.. shucks - you got me blushing guys LOL

The kitten (oscar) got into my studio lastnight and tried practising his own piece of art by aiming to scratch my paintings in process... I banned him instantly!

Other than that, why don't we all descuss what types of art we practise? Now that we have faces for the names.. we can put pain or watercolors to them also!

hi dan.. i've actually tried painting with his paws.. but that was with watercolor.. i'm petrified of using oils or acrilics with him because he licks his feet and i'm afraid if i don't wash his feet properly he'll get poisoned..

is there a particular art medium out there, that you can use with pets??

Oh, another thing! there are actual books in bookstores over here on cats who paint on sheets of paper than are stuck up on their owners walls... very interesting!! because Oscar is just a kitten, it'd be fun to have him play with paints too...

Any ideas?

Ciarrai, there are several lines of non-toxic tempera paints that are for use by children. they are also washable so if should loose interest and go running across the furniture there would be no permanent damage. I keep them on hand for my grandchildren so they will stay out of Gramma's toys, LOL.

Ciarri,
Kittens actually make a great sponge painting tool for abstract painting or faux finishes when redecorating your home....just dip them into the different paint colors and press the cat onto the canvas or wall! (Oh...almost forgot...have kitty declawed first!)

Just kidding...I actully love animals. I just couldn't resist!:D

Laura, i'll be sure to declaw lol.. i love that phrase you used!
i started a portrait of mum and i lastnight.. while working on an abstract canvas for the later part of my evening.. am thinking about starting a drawing of a horse.. though think i will try and finishe one of two projects i've started first.

thanks for the advise on paints.. i'll keep my eyes open.

There is also a book out there on painted cats...beautifully rendered too I might add.

Hi everyone,

My names Holly and i'm fairly new to WC. I haven't done a great deal of artwork in the past couple of years but have been slowly working my way back into, mostly working with just pencil at this stage before gaining enough confidence to move back into pastels.

This is me last year in a tree hehe

Harmony, I returned to painting after a 30 year break about 6 months ago. I kind of diddled picking it up and putting it down until I stumbled across this site. Now I'm a painting FOOL! I paint every day and my skills are improving by leaps and bounds. This site is so full of inspiration and support and knowledge . The more you post the more you benefit.

Mikki,

You are absolutely right. It really does help knowing that there are so many other people out there struggling along also. Being in contact with so many people that can offer advice, comments and criticism has encouraged me so much more than had I of been doing it on my own.

I was ready to give up a week ago because I found that I could not get anything right. Since then I have put alot more effort in and its definately thanks to this site. Already I think I have improved after just a week.

I had to go back a bit in time, seeing as any frontal photos I had taken in the last couple of years no longer exist. So, the first is me and my Bellie-girl (aka Brat with a capital B), taken just a bit over 5 years ago. Cant say I've aged all that much since... just a lot more stress marks in my feathers. ;)

The second was taken just last week, with Ariel the hyacinth (not mine, unfortunately).
Uhya... most of the time I've got a bird glued to me.

I've seen this post has risen from the dead, so to speak and I'm glad to see it back. Just got done looking through them all and I'm proud to be part of such a good looking crowd! :)

I've already posted, but people always come up to me in the streets and ask me, "How DID you get so gosh darn handsome?" It's all in the upbringing. I recently found this collection of pictures in various stages of dorkiness growing up that I'd thought I'd share. Everyone can look except Redsy, she'll pass out from laughter. :D

Dawn's in there!! She's the one with the brilliant red headed wig on her head and then I think she put another one without the wig. (not sure but try in the early pages - perhaps 2 or 3). At the time, someone was painting red heads in their lives and she donned her colors for the event.

So were's the cat??? I expected to see one.
