View Full Version : Bulk Buy on Bangles?

01-07-2003, 06:28 PM
OK, it's probably too early in the week to be rhyming, but I couldn't resist.

This question is in reference to fairly recent posts about the sterling silver bracelets that have ball ends on them. One end unscrews, and you can slip lampworked beads right onto the bangle bracelet.

I think I recall someone mentioning doing a bulk purchase on these bangles, and I'm wondering if it is too late for me to get in on that?

Also, I'm wondering what size mandrel you'd have to use to get beads that would fit on these? I have a 3/16" hollow stainless steel mandrel that I got from Heritage Glass, and I'm thinking that would work!

If someone could let me know about the bulk buy, I'd appreciate it!

Me too, me too. If anyone is doing a bulk buy I'd be really interested also.

I've been pretty surprised at the high prices these plain sterling bangles command ... seems as though some of them are way over priced.

You can make your own - if you have some metal working skills. Not that I've done any tapping for the thread yet, but, hey - I may give it a try!

How cheap is it possible to get these in a bulk buy ... ? If they're very cheap then making them by hand becomes not worth the effort.

In the new Fire Mountain catalog, they're about $2 each. I haven't seen them in person, so I don't know the quality, though.

This is the only one I could find on their website. Is it a different one that you saw in the catalogue?

The $2 range one is"

That is cheap - but it seems to be silver plated by the description of it ...

I'll hunt through the plethora of catalogs I have - although some of them may be out of date!

the cheap one (http://www.firemountaingems.com/det...1=prodselection) appears to be silver plated, not sterling silver. That would explain the big price difference.

I bought one on eBay (thanks to a link here) and just received it. It is OK, not the highest quality, and I can see that if someone doesn't know how to put on a bangle, it will get all warped out of shape. It's pretty soft. I can't tell if this one is sterling or plated. Also, only larger hole beads will fit on it. The 1/16 holes are too small...

I *think* I have found a good source for the sterling bangles. I have a tax i.d. # to buy wholesale, and I am willing to host a group buy. I think the cost would be somewhere around $7.50 each and they are sterling, with the ball ends, and one end unscrews to add the beads.

I've asked for more information about the diameter of the sterling wire and the circumference of the bracelets. I'll post more when I know more. :D

I just ordered some bangles from a different supplier than I had originally intended to buy from, because the first supplier is out of stock at the moment with no definite restocking date. The price is great on the ones I just ordered, but I want to see the quality before we go ahead with a big order. I hope they'll be here sometime next week, then I'll let you all know!

Stay tuned ...... :D

For those of you who have a Hobby Lobby nearby - I found base metal bangles in silver and gold for 67 cents today. They're not deluxe by any means but thought I'd show you anyway.

Nancy, How'd you do on your sterling? I share my car w/ perpetual student son, who started classes today, so by the time I got there, much of the huge spacers I like, were gone...:( ...Helen, playing cajun chef making chicken/crab/rosemary gumbo (not chicken beads this time)..

Ooh Helen - can I come to your house for dinner?! I made a pretty good dent in my Hobby Lobby's silver stash! I was only the second car in the parking lot at 9 AM! I also got alot of their bead mixes for the kits I sell! Now I'm going to have to get back to doing my parties and classes - instead of playing here so much - to pay the big bill! :(
