Since the last show and tell had 58 posts, I hope it is ok to start a new one. By the way Val, I loved that last set you posted, with all the cool colors, very soothing to look at. Bead therapy!

Ok, so here is what came out of my kiln this morning I set a new record on quantity and quality, mostly balanced beads, wheee!

My hubbster came out to the almost done studio last nite and asked if I knew what time it was? Of course not, it was after 11:00 pm! Lost all track of time. Guess I need a clock out there! I forgot who gave me the advice, but I tried putting light pink transparent over the silver foil and as it cooled it turned the lovliest color, a coppery gold. Of course it came out wonky, so I'll have to take another stab at it. The 25x16mm big purple with dicro is hollow and so is my second petoskey stone bead. I still have no idea what color that cocoa rod is called and only have one rod left??? Any guesses?

01-07-2003, 11:14 AM
Maria - they are wonderful! I especially love the middle row. Really good work! And the first three on the first row really get me! You had one super torching session.

01-07-2003, 11:15 AM
They're LOVELY!

I can't decide which I like best .... I like them all!

Isn't it fun when you're having such a good time that you lose all track of time?

01-07-2003, 11:22 AM
Well... I can't stop doing the florals.... YIKES!

Here is some with CZ centers:

Here are some close ups:

Thanks for starting another show and tell Maria....

here is a flower

01-07-2003, 11:44 AM
I think I found my new niche, I love making these flower accented beads.

01-07-2003, 11:51 AM
Leslie, very nice florals! How I wish I could do florals. It seems as though I can't do florals or plunges to save my life!

Christy, I really like your florals too! I'll have to work more on this style, since I can't do the other kind.

Mark, that's a lovely flower, it reminds me of a huge morning glory. I was struck by the difference in scale that we work on. My glass creations are rarely over an inch in diameter, while your creations are rarely, if ever that small! It must be fun to play with glass on your scale.

01-07-2003, 11:54 AM
Here's my first attempt at a boro mushroom marble.http://
I don't think I generate enough heat using a concentrator so it has some weird bubbles.

01-07-2003, 11:56 AM
Some day I'll get this right.http://

Ok, I'll submit some selfish self promotion:

I've really gotten into doing these sets lately. They are a bit time consuming however. This one took 2 1/2 hours and all my straight mandrels. It's amazing how many bent mandrels I've got.

01-07-2003, 12:07 PM
I never do this, but I just happened to upload a couple of pictures this morning. I absolutly hate my scanner so if this doesn't work, dont' be suprised. I scanned the print photos and they came out huge even though I reduced to 33%.

01-07-2003, 12:09 PM
OOOOOOH it worked. That was fun. One more then. hee hee.

Queen of Tides
01-07-2003, 12:13 PM
wonderful beads, I especially love the embellished heart.

that is the only kind of flower that would survive up her in Northern Michigan, I love it! I miss flowers, in Texas, people put pansies in their flower beds for the winter, isn't that cool? I think so anyway.

Leslie, can't wait to see those florals in person at lunch!!!

First florals. Still trying to get the hang of not smearing or getting lots of bubbles. Not to mention trying to get them round again with all the clear smooshed everywhere! :p I figure about number 100, I might understand what I'm doing.... LOL...

http://www.wetcanvas.com/Community/images/07-Jan-2003/11262-First_floral_1625.jpg OOPS just a little large...

01-07-2003, 12:43 PM
Leslie, large is good! :) I have floral envy - you all are making such great florals with vines and other details. I'm just happy if the petals come out unsmeared. LOL

Here's my first attempt at using 22K gold on and in my beads and I have to say, I LOVE gold:

And the largest bicone I've ever made: 35mm long -

01-07-2003, 01:02 PM
Maria - wonderful beads! I love your hollow:clap:

Leslie - the CZ's in the florals lend such an elegant touch to them.
They are beautiful:p

Mark - nice!

Pete - I like the weird bubbles in your mushrooms - makes them look like they are from another planet!

Greg - nice sets - I noticed your auctions the other day!

Christy - florals like that are so pretty - they remind me of English gardens.

Carla - such pretty florals - and I love the close-ups!

Leslie (Crazy Woman) - you've got it with your florals - I have just started practicing these. I have managed some smeary ones with no bubbles - maybe I'll get as good as you with some practice!

Am - nice work with the gold. Your auctions all look so nice anymore - you are developing a very elegant style!

Here is a the first heart I made. It is Lauscha red wrapped in goldstone stringer. The second heart I made is posted on this week's challenge:

Great beads everyone!! Since I have not been to the torch yet today - I figured I better at least get yesterday's set listed on ebay! Here it is, the first of my valentine sets. Hopefully I will make more, I really have a problem when it comes to working with the same colors two days in a row! So many colors - so little time! Jill

01-07-2003, 01:32 PM
Super beads. I love to see other people's work. I rarely post, but here are a few out of the kiln this morning. (not even off the mandrels yet.) I haven't made hollows for a while and had forgotten how much fun they were.

Thanks, Mary Beth! I'm trying! Glad to see that it's working - gee, I think I may have found my own auction style - yay! LOL

Love that heart bead - such a great RED.

Jillie, you too! I can't wear red for the most part (red in the hair) but I love it in beads when it's so very rich a tone like that!

Melinda, what a great idea! I think it's fantastic!!!

01-07-2003, 02:11 PM
Well, I finally got all my animal prints put together. It took long enough! Two weeks with the kids out of school and I'm soooooo glad they went back today. Now I can clean the house! HA! That's just what I told the DH - but it's really TORCH TIME!!!

sorry about the huge pic

01-07-2003, 02:25 PM
Thanks Jillie:
coming from you, I'm especially flattered! I've long admired your work. The gold is actually gold-leaf, and not very thick. I ordered from a different supplier and it was so expensive, I bought only double-thick leaf, not my usual tripple-thick leaf. The "magic" part of those beads is that it is made with pale yellow tint and they just seem to glow. Then I make the gold "crackle" a bit. I wish I could get the same effect with silver leaf, but I cannot. It's either there or it's not.

Jena: love your animal prints. I spent days working out the tigers (Corina's book wasn't out yet), but for the life of me, I cannot make a decent leopard. Even with Corina showing me how a couple of weeks ago, I just couldn't do it! (No stringer control, I'm thinking.)

Gee, Jena, I can really relate to the kids back to school, and I heard that exact same thing from my DH this morning. I finally got an hour to torch:D :D Here's what I came up with:
My 2 favorites are the 2 on the left. As usual the floral sucked, but I'm finally back at the torch! and lovin that ink blue

01-07-2003, 04:51 PM
Oh, I gotta get me some of that lauscha red. Just when I think I have all the glass I could want........sigh.....

Being unimaginative lately, I have been slaving over spacers.

01-07-2003, 05:07 PM
This is my 2nd frog. The very first one I ever did, I melted the stringer to look like he had a broken arm, didn't do any more, made this one 2 nights ago. He has one eye that bulges out. CC

Show and tell is always so inspiring!

Maria: I love your color combos

Leslie: The CZ's in your beautiful florals really make them sparkle

Mark: Fantastic

Christyl: Such a sweet set

Pete: Great mushroom marble. Gotta try that some day

Greg: Yummy set of beads

Carla: I wish I could get my petals to look like that! Beautiful.

Amber: Love the gold on soft pink - so delicate. Guess I gotta have some of that also! You need to make something for yourself out of the bicone set. You were holding out on me at lunch... didn't see that set! And, shucks, thanks for the compliments.

Mary Beth: Outstanding heart - simplicity at its best! Thanks for the compliment - still working on it. See you at the January BeadCluster meeting.

Melinda: Big Giggles ~ Big Brother is indeed watching! :D

Jillie: Real eye candy. Just put them in a heart shaped box.

LuAnn: I've got hollow envy ~ gorgeous!

Jena: Your wild animals are teriffic!

Jessica: Love that color and plunges

Jami: Blue boro ~ Those are too pretty just to be spacers

With all that inspiration, I want to leave work and hit the torch!

You're welcome! Actually, the bicone doesn't have a bid yet so if it doesn't sell, I'm going to send it to Clara at Clara's Designs to make a necklace for me. :) She and I have an exchangy-type thing going where I will send her beads in the styles she likes and she'll make jewelry for me out of other beads I want trussed up. Works for me! :)

[/b]With all that inspiration, I want to leave work and hit the torch! [/B]

Oh me too - I might sneak out to the garage tonight and make some florals. :)

01-07-2003, 07:11 PM
Great stuff from everyone.

But, ohh Jami..love the blues. Glad the new camera is working out for ya!

01-07-2003, 08:23 PM
Melinda... the traffic light is just too cool!

Jami... gorgeous blues!! Is that the Northstar Blue Moon color? And nothing wrong with slaving over spacers.... those are what sell consistantly!

Everyone has been so creative lately.... great job!!

01-07-2003, 10:31 PM
This is a set that my husband Chris and I did together the other night. I really like the look of ink blue with silvered ivory.

Melinda Melanson
01-07-2003, 10:38 PM
<---------------Throwing herself on the floor, kicking feet in tantrum, yelling "I WANT SOME INKBLUE!!"

I know a bit melodramatic:D I don't order glass until I need more than 30 lbs to get the price break. Guess I need to make alot more beads, so I'll need more glass.

I love show and tells!!! Everyone is making beautiful beads.

01-07-2003, 11:23 PM
Thanks Crazy Woman & Lauri.
Gotta love when you can string up three feet of beads and play with them!

Leslie - nope not blue moon! :D

01-08-2003, 12:01 AM
OH me too!

I want ink blue - those are beautiful.... I'm in love with the ivory ... and I've always liked blue.... just a great combination!

I love all those beads!!! You guys have been working too hard!!!

As for the kids going back to school, THANK GOD!!!! When mine were not eating they were on a distroy mission. It's so nice to have a little peace and quiet again.

Well, I have been making a few new sets lately. This is my take on Valentines Day beads.

Quill, I was reading the post up from the bottom and saw you blue genes and knew they were your before I even saw you name - I love 'em.

01-08-2003, 08:17 AM
After seeing some of your beautiful work I hesitate to show you my little set - but these are the first beads I've made with my own hand ground frit. I'm pretty pleased with the look - usually I tend to lean toward brighter colors.

I've seen a lot of show and tell threads, but this one I'm going to have to print out all the pictures and put them in my "inspiration" folder.

Have you ever gotten in too deep with a bead? That happened with me today - I started something and then an hour and a half later I was tired and impatient and just said --- FINISH IT ALREADY! This is it - or should I say "her". There's a picture of a mermaid on the cover of the Santana "Supernatural" CD that I was looking at. No, mine doesn't look anything like the one on the CD...but one day---I'm going to make some decent looking mermaids....I'm determined. In the meantime, here's the second mermaid I've ever made. She has a big butt, a gash on her face, and she looks like she's doing the hula!

OK - I am taking a deeeeeeep breath--------

Maria - I love your orange beads!!!!! They POP!

Leslie V. - Your florals look great! You have a steady hand. How big are the CZ's?

Mark - great flower. I really like the twistyness.

ChristyL - I can see why you like doing those flowers. They are really neat. Did you use the Lauscha red for the spacers?

Pete - My daughter loves mushroom stuff (don't ask) and that one looks just like her favorite variety from Alice in Wonderland.

Greg - Just shameless of you, there. Those beads look great and I checked out the rest of your stuff on ebay and I had to lock my purse in the safe! I love your parrot!!!!! And all your fish are looking spectacular!!! STOP IT!

Carla - that is a beautiful little floral or two you have there. What color did you use as the base(s), if you don't mind me asking?

Leslie B - I think your big photo ROCKS! I love getting close enough to lick the beads. Your beads are looking great!

Am - You are a braver woman than I. Your gold beads look great. And my, what big bicone you have, my dear. LOL.

Mary Beth - that heart is an amazing red! Well done!

Melinda - That bead gets a 10 on the creepy scale. You are freakin me out, girl!

Jill - yum! I don't think I could make so many beads in just two colors. You have shown great restraint with great results!

Luann - Well geez! Those are just incredible....bead poop and all!

Jena - Oooooh...you are very talented......I shall be watching you.....(don't be scared) I also adore your valentine set.

Jessica - gotta love that ink blue! And your floral does NOT suck.

Jami - step away from the spacers, Jami. They are beautiful, though.

Cindy - your bulgy-eyed frog is Soooooooo Cute! Speaking of your first frog, I just made another handicapped frog. I have a collection of them now.

Sonya - Those are lovely! You make beads with your husband? Is there something in the water up in the Pacific Northwest?

Linda - great genes you have there. I really like your style.

Sara - PINK!!!! I love pink. I can't help it. Those look great.

Emily - I love the shape you did on that pendant. What color is the base?

Nancy - Did you just roll the beads in the frit? I love the flashes of purple in them. I love your new tinyhead. It makes me smile.

Anne - I was going to ask you about these beads! They really are gorgeous! Well done!

Julia - That little vessel is wonderful! I have NO IDEA how you made a stopper to fit it but WOW! The whole thing looks great!

Jan - LMAO!!!!! That is one very unique little mermaid! LOL! I love how colorful she is. If you would like to feel better about some of her "eccentricities" I will show you my "Rataphant"

ccd - That bead reminds me of fudge ripple ice cream. Yum. Now I have to go eat.

Whew! That was some collection of beautiful beads! Thank you all for being so inspiring!

You had me all worked up too - now you gotta figure out how to post your image!

I just figured this out 2 days ago - save my image (I'm using Microsoft Paint - making sure that the image size is less than 600 x 400 pixels (I think that was it) - saving to my hard drive. Then using the Insert Picture field with the browse button to select the file on my hard drive.

01-08-2003, 10:26 PM
Oops - its the Attach file field - bottom of the response box. Oh and the extension has to be one of the ones listed.

Lori - A Rataphant sounds like a must-see item! Very "Ripley's Believe It Or Not"ish. Pull that creature-bead out of the closet and make him say "Cheese"! I want to see a picture! Might make me feel better after spending so much time on this Hawaiian mermaid.

Hi Everyone,
Ihaven't put anything in show and tell for quite some time, mostly because my photo skills and or camera are so bad nothing looks right. Anyway I'm trying again. I won't have this set after tomorrow as it was made for someone to give as a birthday gift. Put it together tonight. The focal bead is a teapot although you can't tell from the pic the spout and handle are cobalt and they faded into the black. The beads were made from moretti cobalt and white. first mad a blu and wht twistie then encased with lauscha clear. The necklace is wirewrap and the bracelet is strung on softflex. If I have time in the morning I'll try to get a better pic outside with a nuetral background.

01-08-2003, 11:40 PM
I also want to comment on everyones awesome beads but it will have to be in the morning cause I'm totally wiped out! Been away for a couple days as a surprise 25th anniversary trip my husband gave me I'll tell ya'll about that tomorrow as well it was FAB!

01-08-2003, 11:47 PM
Beautiful set. I really love blues these days, especially twisties. Now if only I could make them:D but seriously, your photo skills look good to me! appreciate the eye candy.

Chrisann~~My birthday is......hehe, beautiful beads, wow what color, great pic!

Bunches of beautiful stuff here!!

01-09-2003, 10:14 AM
The one is red orange with nile green vines. The other is periwinkle with olive(lauscha) over it on the base. i am not sure if you can see any of the periwinkle. I can't encase over sage if it is against the mandrel for some reason. I alway loose it. So I cheated the base.

01-09-2003, 10:27 AM
