What's on your easel (or in your sketchbook) this month?
Show a finished portrait or one in any stage of progress. This thread is for showcasing your work; others will only critique your work if you request it.
So please show us what you've been up to this month. We'd love to see it.
Even if you have already shown it in the main portraiture forum, you are invited to showcase it in this thread, also, as this thread will remain in the Library Archives. (Portrait Swap WIP shots most welcome, too!)
And be sure to check out previous Portrait Galleries in the Archives. Lots of great work in there!
So... let's get those portraits set up in the gallery....

At my weekly Wednesday morning portraiture workshop, we had a wonderful model for two weeks. He dressed a bit piratey.
I decided to do a monochrome oil sketch, using a tube of this year's Gamblin Torrit Grey. (Gamblin makes it annually from all the pigment sludge left over from making their oil paints -- more information on their website -- and hold an annual competition of art painted with it.) I've never used Torrit Grey before, and so was curious to see what kind of grey I'd have. This one is quite purpley.
Here is my study of Gustavo after our first session (a little over 2 hours):

Here he is again after this week's session (add another 2 hours):

Sorry that the second photo is a bit blurry. I added a touch of ultramarine blue to the background, to help differentiate it from the figure and make it stay 'back'. I'm thinking of tinting the rest a bit -- though keeping the palette kind of cool and subdued. I can work on it from here using the reference photos I took.
C's & C's welcome! :D

It's not done yet, but I'll post more as it continues to develop.
Sorry for the cellphony wip pics, I usually save the digital camera snaps for finished works.

Just finished this watercolor of a cowboy. It's about 9" x 12" on Arches 140 lb. paper. I used Daniel Smith watercolors.

This is the latest of my American Indian portraits. They are mostly based on old black and white photographs from Edward Curtis from the www.firstpeople.us/ website.
This is a Zuni Indian called Shiwawatiwa dating from 1903. He is described as a warrior but the Zuni were not very warlike and mostly avoided conflict which is why they still survive in their original location on the Arizona/New Mexico border. The history of the American Indian, especially the conflicts that occured with the advancing white civilization, is another of my interests.
My portrait painting `style', if you call call it that, is based on the teachings of Charles Reid .

Framed... :)
http://www.wetcanvas.com/Community/images/14-Dec-2010/188619-PortraitFin136.JPG
Painting is oil 16inch by 20 inch.
Finally got it finished and framed. The painting has a lot of room for improvement, but I am happy with it as it is my first portrait and she looks sort of human (and I have learned a lot from it.) :)
Now, just need to sign and varnish it, but going to wait a few months to let it "dry" before I vanish.
Happy Painting

Hi all, I did a portrait a day for the beginning of this month and posted these in the acrylic forum because that is what I painted them in. Hope it's OK to post them here. :) Oh drats I got the 'ack' message again when I tried to upload the pictures. Been doing this on and off for days now- sent an email to tech support. :(

this is my first real portrait....and haven't painted in six years. i worked from a photo and will admit i rushed some parts out of necessity. It is 9 X 12 inches and oil. the photo doesn't capture the colours exactly. comments welcome. thanks.

We have a posed model at our weekly sketch group. The three below are 12 x 16 acrylic on canvas panel. ~40 min each. Santa is Bruce, a 6 ft 6 'Nam Veteran Ranger who visits local grade schools during December. He also posed in his Ranger uniform a month ago.
