I am a realistic acrylic painter and pen and ink artist who gets caught up in fine detail, mostly landscapes and such, but am trying something to new - a portrait in acrylics. Any tips and techniques from any of you who portraits in acrylics? Most of what I have been finding has been tip and techniques of doing them in oil. Any comments would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks
Mary

Welcome to the site Mary:)

Have you checked out threads in the Portrait forum? There may well be portraits done in acrylics there.

Also, if you are a realistic painter, employ the same techniques for the portrait - they should apply!

Check out threads by ianart (http://www.wetcanvas.com/forums/member.php?u=161734) - he's done some realistic portraits recently. Also look at the work of rmc (http://www.wetcanvas.com/forums/member.php?u=83066) - Ruth used to do portraits quite often.

If you read this thread of our Self Portrait challenge, 2010 (http://www.wetcanvas.com/forums/showthread.php?t=604518) you'll see lots of different styles!!!
