Winsor & Newton is discontinuing their soft pastel line, so if you have any favorite sticks, better stock up now!

Don, thanks for the clarification. I noticed a WN set from Jerry's at a great price. I like WN's pastels.

Also, Jack Richeson Co., maker of Unison Pastels, is offering rebates of up to $200 on their soft pastel sets. I just received my small set so I am getting a $10 rebate. I believe this runs through Dec. 31st.

I just picked up the 120 Richeson Soft half-sticks from Dakota for $129. Great deal, but don't know if it is still going on. Add that to the 120 Unison half-sticks I picked up from Richeson two weeks ago ($149) and the 14 Terry Ludwig Sunset collection ($34) and I've restocked for the winter.

When I go to the poor house to live, I can blame Dakota. I have little will power when it comes to art supplies and when they are on sale...well then I just have none!

Woah... it must be nice to have money.:) I am fretting the bill I'll get from my Chase card. I recently made some purchases of set of Oil Pastels and bunch of Canson papers.:D

Cheers...

Steven, I think you missed the word poorhouse. :wink2: I know you will enjoy your new pastels and paper. Wish someone had told me how addictive pastels are.

Sue, I think that I would still be addicted, even if someone had told me how the boxes of pastels keep piling up. Anxiously awaiting the "Candy Store" at the next IAPS.

Going to Art of the Carolina's trade show (Jerry's Artarama) this weekend ... seeing dollar signs floating out the window.

Just got back from my spending spree - came back with:

12 set of Richeson semi-hard pastels (looking for something to replace Prisma)
12 set of Koh-i-noor soft pastels (I've never seen these before, so will test)
2 sizes of Uart Pastel board
2 boards of Ampersand white pastel board

plus other items related to acrylic and watercolor painting

Yikes!

But all in all, very good prices - most at 50% off retail

Kathryn, great haul! Have you tried Cretacolors to replace Prismacolor? I like them very much.

Kathryn Wilson

Well, you know how that goes - we have to try everything. I do have Cret-a-color and find they are okay, but not quite a replacement.

Believe me, at the prices I'm paying for this stuff, I'll give anything a go.

My biggest disappointment is not finding any Pastelmat - don't even know who distributes it.

Here's a link to the Koh-i-noor:

My 12 piece set was only $10.00 at the show.

I'm sure you needed it all! Enjoy the bounty. Doesn't Dakota carry pastelmat?

Kathryn, Dakota pastels, Fineart store in NY and I believe Dick Blick. It doesn't seem to have caught on yet outside the big internet sites.

I was trying to avoid shipping costs - I see that Jerry's carries it, but didn't find it in their booths today. Will have to look closer tomorrow.

Jerry's artarama is selling the 120 half stick set of "Paris" Sennelier for just $99.
Also the Richeson 120 half stick (hand rolled) for $119.00

Tell me thats not a good deal. I Love half sticks.

Where is my wallet?

Derek, I'll check on the show prices - I'll bet they're even better.

Seriously, I don't know why more folks don't come to these trade shows - I spoke to a lady today and she came all the way from Florida for the workshops and the trade show.

Is it true that W&N is discontinuing their entire pastel line? I thought they just added to it sometime in the last year or so.

I encountered someone selling a very lightly used fully monty set of 525 Senneliers for $400. I feel like a cad for buying them just before Christmas, but that beats feeling like an idiot for passing it up. I should have them in hand in a few weeks and be doing a whoo-hoo dance for a many days afterwards.
