View Full Version : Alternative to glass framing ?

I don't like framing behind glass. It is expensive and bothersome. I am considering this: to varnish a drawing and then simply mount it on a board or plywood with archival glue spray. A simple frame could go around the edge, perhaps it would even look good without it. Probably I would seal the board with acrylic. Did anyone try something like this?

I use a pouch that's use for laminating document and photo
just put an empty one thought and cut to size
cheaper than glass and safer

I would try it on a discarded drawing first. I would think that the varnish would make the drawing bleed. (?)

Inevitably the exposure to light and dust will harm the paper over time... Dust will infiltrate the rag ( of HQ papers).. But that is quite a lot of time to put it in perspective. An alternative that is a bit cheaper, safer and still archival is to frame with high-quality, UV treated plexi-glass. The Framing ends up being almost half again lighter and your drawing is protected nicely.
