A new project has been announced in the WetCanvas! project system!

Title: SND Party at Jamie's
Project Leader: JamieWG
Relative Difficulty: Irrelevant
Type Restrictions: Any Type
Medium: Any Medium
Subject: Not Applicable
Days open for signups: Always
Maximum participants allowed: Unlimited

Description:

Good evening, everybody, and welcome to this week's Saturday Night Drawing and Painting event. For this event, you're all invited over to party at my house (BYOB :)), sharing 10 reference images that I've taken in and around our humble abode to create your artwork.

Any drawing or painting medium is welcome. Take a half hour to select your image and plan what you'll do. Draw or paint for two hours, then post a progress image for us to see. You may work on your piece for as long as you like and post as many updates of your progress as you wish. Whenever you're done, upload your final image to the project gallery. If you'd like to do more than one image, that's fine too.

Join us in the Cafe to chat at 10pm if you can! 'Hope to see you there. Enjoy your visit and come back anytime!
Jamie

Additional Information:

For more information on the project: Click here! (http://www.wetcanvas.com//Community/Projects/browse_details.php?proj_id=330)

Remember, in order to help keep the discussions on projects organized, you should post your questions, suggestions, and comments on submitted work here in this thread. By doing this, we allow other non-project efforts to not get "pushed down" by a swarm of project-related threads.

While hubby is watching football...I might as well be pastelling. Does that count as drawing/sketching? I need some practice with those bare trees anyway!

Kate, thank you so much! That was my biggest fear---that people wouldn't like my photos! One of them did not upload. I'm not sure what to do about that, but perhaps I'll just save it for next time---it's already so late that I guess people should just choose from what's there now.

Thanks so much for the early feedback on the references.

Carly, yes by all means, I'm flattered that you'll join! I did post an announcement to the pastel forum I think, and all painting is fine too.

Oh, Carly, as long as you're here.....one of my reference pics didn't upload. It was the _only_ pic of the brook behind our house! :( Do you know why it didn't upload with the other 9 images? I put them all in at the same time, and all the others went.

Jamie, the photos are wonderful. The swan just reached out to me, and I have posted a basic line drawing for the project. I haven't decided if it will finally be colored pencil or acrylic. Thanks for such good references!

Ooooh! Yes, the drawing came out very well! I'm curious what medium you'll choose to finish. My daughter made friends with this swan (that's why he came so close), and named him Luiza. We thought he was a she at the time. Hehehe....

Jamie, these are just lovely photos - very inspirational! It was hard to choose, but I finally decided on the swan.

*groan* unfortunately I didn't get my printer hooked up (can't find the stupid wire for it!)...so couldn't print the photos out...so I'm stuck drawing from my computer monitor, which is in the guest bedroom, which has very low lighting and absolutely no elbow room. I'm starting to see double from squinting so hard at my monitor to try to make out details, then squinting even harder to try and see my drawing! LOL! I decided to go with graphite, because it's easier to juggle just one pencil rather than several in this set up, but at this point, I think I'm going to go work in better light and may try to add some colour to what I have. Will be back at 10:00.

Nice job on the tree, Luvy, and you've captured that bitter cold wintery feel. I went out and took this shot just before sundown, following a snow last week. It was Cold!!!

I had to laugh when I read you had so much fun with the grass (reeds) in the background, because you did a much better job with that background than I did when I went at this one a few weeks ago! I think you can just keep on layering, in light layers, with the butterfly and buttonbush flower with the Prismacolors. It's looking good!

Well, Sundiver, FWIW, so far I think it has that wild and free look about it! Coming along splendidly. Your glass bottles are super. Oh, that blue one has given me headaches on many occasions, but it is my favorite! I was hoping somebody would take this one on. The flowers are from my garden, and I spent nearly a day setting this still life up on my porch, running in and out, checking photos from the camera, then rearranging, more photos, check, rearrange. I finally got this photo that I really love and I've been too scared to try it!

This is my first project, and I am just learning how it all goes. Thanks Jamie & dupliKate, for your kind comments on the line drawing.

I don't usually work fast enough to post a final in only a couple of hours, so I will have to post final pieces later on.

I like the swan enough that I will probably do several pieces of it in different mediums, and will post what I come up with, for comments.

This is so helpful, to see other artists work and the references used to produce the work.

Best to all, Jeri

Hehe! :D

Well, Luvy. It seems that fairies are very shy for the camera. They often try to hide as butterflies, but if you know what to look for, you can usually see what they are really up to. :D

Thanks Luvy, k, and Gil for the comments. After looking at her, I decided that I really wanted to draw her with her knees to her chest like she's tugging hard. But, when you sketch in ink with no pencil beforehand, you just have to live with it. I may have to re-do her sometime. :)

I have another one that I did in the Flowers for Rod project. She's just hanging out in the garden. :) I also have a series of sketches going for some Christmas fairies that are up to mischief. I really need to take my fairies out of the "sketching" realm. :)

Yes. Unfortunately, I drew the wings, then the body and THEN the face. When I do fairies, the expressions just sort of happen and I don't really try to make them look a certain way. Originally, my thought was to just have her touching the blossom. Then, the look on her face came out and I decided to draw the hands tugging. Sort of the drawback of ink sketching...I couldn't go back and change the legs. :( Now I'll just have to get the motivation to draw her again.

And thanks to everyone for the comments. :D

Boy you ARE quick off the draw...pun intended!!! :D
the lesson is in the watercolour channel...go to the lesson area to the right on the main Watercolour forum page.. then down the bottom go to 'more' you'll find it on that next page...
BTW 15min drawing, 15 min painting was the time for this...sorry if I mislead you...

Wow, I absolutely love it! The willow at the tip of the peninsula is such a graceful, beautiful tree. You've done a great job of capturing that, and your sky is luminous!

Love the setting sky in this...... isnt it interesting to see two diff versions of the same photo ... great stuff

Thank you so much. I tried to tinker with it more, but the combination of this paper and medium is just not working for me. I miss my smooth paper and Prismas and turpenoid! How are you supposed to blend cloud formations on this sandpaper stuff? LOL...

Gill, I love your leaf! The veins came out really well. The shadow is just right to ground it, and the soft background doesn't distract from the beauty of the leaf.

I'm so excited! I think I found out where I went wrong with this piece, then I reworked the sky and some of the water reflection and I think it works much better! I thought about what I said...missing my Prismacolors and turpenoid....and then I realized, "You idiot!!! Ditch the brushes!" <Duh!> So I went over parts of it again using the Supracolors and water and Q-tips for blending instead of brushes. Infinitely better to work with. Now it feels like a familiar medium again. It's too late to totally save this piece, but this experiment will help me a lot in the future.

Jageo...I painted round the veins for the colour layers, then on the final layer of washed out pink, went over them to soften...next time I will still do this, but either leave more, finer veins, or do the little veins with frisket first...
I tried to scrub in the little veins afterwards, but didn't have suitable implement!!!
