Hi. I am currently working on an oil painting that has a quilt pattern (double wedding ring). I left some spaces empty to do nursery rhyme illustrations along with their text. I am not sure what to do with the text however beyond placing it beside the illustration or around the illustration. I am also not sure if I should use oil paint or india ink to do the lettering. I've tried to see other paintings with words included to see examples and get my creative juices flowing but I am kind of stuck. Any problems that I might get into using ink? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated..
Thanks.

Two things always take center stage when you add them to a painting...people and text.
If you add the text in another medium, this may give it more attention than you are going for. Try thinning the paint and using a script brush...paint in the first few words so they can be read...then gradually diffuse them. It's difficult to give any advice without seeing the work..but I would want text to become a part of the quilt pattern and not take precedence in the overall piece.
