Every body loves these little guys, even if they and the squirrel eat me out of house and home.
OK....go...01...oops...#300 archesCP...mostly W/N paints, but I have replaced my BS with DaVinci Quin Burnt Orange....and combined it with Paynes Grey for the wash below.
The bird and the branch were masked out...Pebeo Drawing gum (liquid frisket)
I don't normally tape with green, but ran out of the reg. stuff.
Why do I tape #300 you ask? Good question. I don't want the wash water to sneak in and get the back dirty. That way, if I screw up, I can just use the back.

The silhouette looks good already Brian.

One of our long time members, who doesn't post anymore, "Shelly P.", always started with the darkest part 1st. Tthe reasoning being that future lighter colours can be adjusted to suit the existing black.
It works ....for me....;-)
My "black" is QBO and UB.
The b/g changes in value are due to the flash unit which I used rather than my normal lighting set-up.
And a close-up.....

Great! Looks ready to hop right out of the screen for a sunflower seed. I love training chickadees to eat from my hands.

Awwwh... he's so cute... beautiful painting that will sell very quickly, Brian! I'm looking forward to your next snow owl...
I like the symplicity of the background in this one and the composition too.
This is very nice. I, also, love the composition and the background. I am preparing to go south, but the chickadees at the feeder in New Hampshire seem perfectly happy where they are. Your painting and the birds are, indeed, very charming.

The chickadee is lovely, pert and pretty. But it is your background that really is stunning. Gorgeous blend of colors there.

Love this painting of one of my favorite birds. Background is absolutely amazing. YOu've proven that more isn't necessarily better, with this one.
