View Full Version : Golden OPEN plein air (partial x-post plein air)

Here are a couple of plein airs from this morning done with Golden OPENs. I'm trying to push these looser. I want them to be more sketchy with less finish. I don't usually use thinner or medium when painting plein air but have started trying OPEN medium for thinning my color instead of water. I liked the way it worked this morning. Last year I did a plein air painting below freezing with OPENs and I hope this year to do more with OPENs in the winter. I'm curious to see how the medium behaves.

This one was maybe 15 minutes. All colors were mixed right on the painting except for the bottom part with the field and warm trees on the bottom.

Very quick for me also, probably 30 minutes.

Here's a detail. I applied a coat of GAC 100 to this paper after the gesso and a wash of yellow ochre had dried. The paint really slipped around nicely. A lot like oils. And I could wipe areas off with a rag all the way down to the tone. Definitely gonna try that again.

C&C always welcome. Thanks for looking :)

I am still really new to acrylics and just bought a set of OPEN Golden Acrylics. I don't have much to compare them to, but I am liking the way they behave so far. However.... I'm not getting the results you are... but I don't think it's the acrylics...!!!! LOL!!

These plein air studies are fabulous!!!

Thanks everybody!

I like heavy bodies too, but they don't like it when the temperature gets chilly ;)
