A new project has been announced in the WetCanvas! project system!

Title: SND-Thank you MissMouse!
Project Leader: DanaT
Relative Difficulty: Irrelevant
Type Restrictions: Any Type
Medium: Any Medium
Subject: Not Applicable
Days open for signups: Always
Maximum participants allowed: Unlimited

Description:

or MissMouse comes out of her house…and takes a truckload of wonderful reference photos for us to use.

This is a great thank you to MissMouse who has given so much to the Wetcanvas community.

For this SND, we highlight MM's magic finger on the shutter as we choose a reference photo from her over 300 contributions to the Reference Library.

As Bobby told you last week, with over 300 photos to choose, we could spend all day picking the "perfect" shot - but PULEEYZE let's confine ourselves to no more than 30 minutes to choose.

Then two hours to draw, sketch, or paint in any medium you choose. Post your work here in the project and join us in the Cafe Guerbois at 5pm EST for chat.

So have fun and catch us later in the Cafe Guerbois.

Additional Information:

For more information on the project: Click here! (http://www.wetcanvas.com//Community/Projects/browse_details.php?proj_id=324)

Remember, in order to help keep the discussions on projects organized, you should post your questions, suggestions, and comments on submitted work here in this thread. By doing this, we allow other non-project efforts to not get "pushed down" by a swarm of project-related threads.

This is beautiful, mel-ink! The scan is very dark on my monitor, so I lightened it with my graphics software. It may be too light now, but here it is if you want to use it.

Sundiver, thanks so much for lightening Mel's image. I made my comments before reading the posts.

MEL!!!! Woohoo!!!! What can I say? I don't even like mice and yet I find this little guy totally captivating. I love the way you've done the seeds on the side. Black background works great. This one's a gem. Frame it, hang it, admire it!

Sorry I got such a late start. I was too tired to begin when I got home last night. Here's my progress image at about 1 hour, 40 minutes. 12X16, oil on canvas panel. My daughter loved this image, so I'm doing it for her to hang in her room. It makes us laugh!

Many thanks to Miss Mouse and our hostess, Dana! Fabulous selections.

All the entries I've seen so far are wonderful! I signed up for the project but kids are home and it's hard to do anything for 2 hours solid :( Think I've got a short list of about 20 photographs that I liked, but they're possibly a bit too complicated for watercolours. I was never good at making decisions

Well, I'm done now, though I may tweak it a bit in a few days. My daughter can't wait to hang it in her room. Total time was just over three hours of painting. (No preliminary drawing or block-in; I just dove right in with the oils on a pre-toned light olive canvas.) 12X16 oil on canvas panel.

Thanks again for a great SND, Dana and Miss Mouse!

Bobby's in charge, but he's busier than a mosquito at a nudist convention lately, and it's a lot of work for one person to do week after week. There's a sticky at the top of this forum where you can put in an offer to host. Hey! Go for it! We'll all love ya for it!

Wowee! I love your colors and what you've done with the composition. What is the size of your painting? When I saw that photo in the thumbnails of the reference pics, I didn't realize that there was a lake on the left. This is just gorgeous. It's tempting to give it a go in oils. Excellent submission!

Gee...thanks Jamie (we need a blushing smilie!). It is acrylic, on a 10 X 14 panel...I bought a whole whack of those small panels to practice on, and for drawing events. Want to learn to paint...really want to learn to paint. I have been using acrylics for the drawing events because they dry so fast that I can scan them in at the end of the two hours.

I have to have a look at the rest of the entries....back soon with comments on everyone's work...

Kate, what a great idea to do these SNDs and FNDs in acrylic. Have you found a source for stock frames in 10 X 14 size? (That's why I use 8X10 and 12X16---I can get ready-made frames.) I think maybe I will try one soon in acrylics! I don't have a scanner, so I photograph my entries....but you can see on the pigs that the vertical lines aren't vertical due to the photo distortion. 'Gotta get a scanner one of these days.

Your comments here (please leave the links above intact, so others know what you are talking about!).I almost did this one....but I liked the lake in the one I chose. I found the figure to be the hardest part....kept looking like it was stuck on. I think you have done it well. I work a lot with pastel, and find the pencils a little too restraining....like the big sticks myself...but I'm not very good at detail. Looks to me like you really didn't have any problem...the colours turned out beautifully!

Hi Kate. I sometimes go overboard on colors too, and then everything takes me waaaay too long and the painting doesn't hang together the way it should. I was determined to do this in as few colors as possible, and it really did simplify everything along the way. I had a couple of colors I initially planned to use---Naples Yellow and Yellow Ochre and Cerulean blue, but I ended up not needing them! Boy oh boy, was that ever a first! I wanted to use this piece to experiment a lot with WN Permanent Rose, and I ended up very surprised by how much that pigment can do!

Thanks gnu.......... will study further :) ..... *stopping the clock on this one :D

For the comments on my work - thank you for looking. I went back to finish the boats, but i'd lost the drive, and they sunk. ;)
The CP cat was fun to do, what with adding all those colours. It's something i've never tried with my watercolours, so I guess I should figure it out.

a neat thing is how this mouse is brown, while wignut's is grey - from the same photo. Would the choice of paper determine some of that?

Yup. :D I felt the gray would be too flat on the black matboard...the photo is more like wings version.

Your comments here (please leave the links above intact, so others know what you are talking about!).This is very nice! The only thing you need in the greens is to darken the darks a bit (I think). You could use a dark red to do that, or even a dark blue....everything else looks great. Love the basket!

Better late than never? I hope so! This will be for my sis for Christmas. I considered it done, but now I'm wondering about that background hill....It was too bright a purple, so I dulled it, and now the purple is all gone! I didn't mean to do that. Geez! I think I'll have to go back in and change that. I'm sure that by then I'll see something else to fix too!
