View Full Version : The Hike

This is a pastel I have been messing with for several months. It was created with NO reference materials. Just started drawing. I'm looking for information on deciding which way the light is coming from and placing shadows.

The trees are white on the front but their shadows lay on the grass as though they were lit from behind. Bring the light source from the upper left corner that way you can model the people and the trees easier and still see the trees shadows on the grass (but they should be at an angle like -30deg).

It looks like they are on the side of a hill and may roll off the page; maybe something in the lower left corner would help that.

I like your variation of color in the sky and look forward to seeing the finished piece! http://www.wetcanvas.com/ubb/smile.gif
