The last show and tell has 78 posts, so I have self appointed myself to start a new one, slap me if I get annoying.

<===========Lenda, ducking, because she knows they're coming!!

OK, you all are probably SICK of looking at my florals, but I can't seem to do anything else these days :crying: I'm just in that mood. But I have snuck in one encased silver and cobalt bead.

So where are your new ones????

<===========Lenda, tapping her foot impatiently..........

For the record, I am NOT a floral person. Don't make 'em, don't use 'em. But yours are lovely!!! I especially like the one with all the small white flower, in the middle. Makes me think of lily of the valley. The topaz ones are great too.

And that blue bead.....YUM!!!!!

I'll never get tired of seeing your florals, but may I say, bigger is better! Must be my aging eyes. And what about the one with the floaty things in it?

Lenda.

I love your florals, not sick of them at all! I am not a floral person myself, maybe it is becus I have tried them and not been successful. Yours are great though and I really love the one in the middle too! But I do love you cobalt one too! :)

keep up the great work!

Lenda

Just for you Pat, HUGE!!! The one with the floaty things, is that the blue one you mean? It's a cobalt blue base, wrapped with silver, melted in, then encased. Looks like a universe with little planets all inside, it's one of my fav's too.

11-19-2002, 09:28 AM
Lenda, Really love all of them, I am a floral person however quit doing them for a while cause my casing sucked much! Now that I have the murano and lauscha clears been casing like mad (mostly stripes) and loving it. Although the florals are scrumpdiddlyisous my fave is the cobalt, how did you do that? How much silver foil did you use and how cool do you have to go on the encasement?
C

Lenda
11-19-2002, 09:35 AM
Hey Chris, I cut my silver sheets into 1/3's. I used one strip on this bead. The casing goes on really hot and the base is fairly cool. I started using Lauscha clear myself not too long ago and I just love it, that's why most of the beads I do are encased, I think. No more BURNED encasing, I just love it!!!

Ooops, you asked how to do it. Here you go. Make your base bead, put on your silver foil, I folded mine in half to make it double thick, Burnish it on, add some clear in spots, heat until the silver balls up in spots and is hot, cool down and encase. I jsut made these in dk. amethyst and dk. teal. I think they'll come out just as pretty as the cobalt.

Gorgeous florals, Lenda and no, I'm not sick of seeing them. I have tried florals only a couple of times and they're not easy to do. You do them very well! I too love the cobalt blue bead with the silver in it .... it does remind me of a universe. VERY nice!

P.S. Nothing to share here ... no torch time lately for me. :crying: :crying: :crying:

Lenda,
I love your florals! They are so pretty and feminine. I haven't really tried to make one yet - I am saving that technique for when I get my Minor set up. That colbat one with the silver is just beautiful. Now that's something I need to try:)

Lenda-those beads are wonderful! I especially like the clear with white flowers and floaty vines-water lilies! I haven't tried to make florals yet-waaaay higher skill level than I have yet, but it is something I aspire to...gotta try your technique for the cobalt one, tho-yummy!

You got VINE goin' on, GF!!! I can't seem to get the vines right! Your vines are primo. :) Good job! I do have to say you shouldn't have put the "Universe" bead in there though because I really like that one and I start ignoring the florals. LOL :)

Lenda, your getting sneaky!!! Have you got something planned in the future??? You keep showing us these florals and next thing will be some sort of floral exchange or project.

Keep up the great work:clap:   I want to see the white flower bead with floating vines in person!

Well Sara, nothing tricky up my sleeve!!!;) A floral exchange DOES sound nice, though. Thanks for all of your wonderful comments and I hope a lot of you are trying out the Universe bead today.

Let's cut to the chase, AM I THE ONLY ONE THAT"S GONNA POST NEW EYE CANDY HERE?????And yes, I'm yelling:mad: Where is it? This was not Lenda's New Show and Tell guys!!!!!!

Ok Lenda, I'm jumping on board this 'show and tell ship'!

Here are my lastest Bullseye beads out of the kiln this weekend. I had a second success with achieving purple/violet, but never when I expect it.

Holy purple people eaters, Valorie! Those are gorgeous!

Val - I love those colors!

Here is my contribution - I call these Southwest Serpent Rising- they were inspired by the wildfires we had here all summer. I didn't make the small black beads - they are Czech seed beads that are etched to match. The serpent is raised- not melted flat.

I have a new one. I did it last night. I finished up some sets and wasn't ready to get off the torch and didn't want to start another set so I played. This is what I ended up with.... i have seen the instructions for this a long time ago and have been wanting to do it.

Finally, some other posters besides me on this thread!

Valorie, I love that purple/fuschia color you are coming up with, when you said you were surprised, did you start with a different color to begin with?

Mary Beth, that color combo is so pretty. What is the orangy color, is it coral?? Those colors look great together, looks like sunset on the water.

Robbin, that is a gorgeous bead!!! It is the fish scale method I think, isn't it? Your dots are so well placed and the green overlapping is perfect!

That's more like it. Thanks--

MaryBethC

Lenda,
Yes the orangey color is coral - it is from a new batch that I just bought from Frantz.

Lara
11-19-2002, 08:12 PM
Lenda: I really like your flowers. I like the one with the orangey flowers and the one on the left with the white flowers.

Valorie - Just wonderful. What a great purple color. Purple is my favorite.

Here are some I did this weekend. The transparent flower beads didn't scan well. They look better in person. The colors on the beads on the end are all washed out. AUGH I want a digital camera, but can't afford it!

Mary Beth - very cool serpent - that turquoise rocks.

Robbin - luscious bead - is it a mum?

Lara - love those stripes - really pretty!

I'd appreciate suggestions on how to make my beads "stand on edge" for better scanning...

Hi Willow. I use a product called Blue Tack. I was in America earlier this year and I noticed you don't have that over there but you have the same stuff but it's yellow. Don't know what you call it there but it looks just like chewing gum but doesn't stick to anything permanently ... you just roll it off when you've finished.

Those are some very very inspiring beads y'all!!!

I have burned through 2 tanks of oxy this weekend. I find myself not wanting to do anything but sit behind the torch.

Here are some of what was produced this weekend. hope the detail shows on the scans....still trying to figure out how to take good pics with my digi cam. I can't seem to figure it out the lighting just yet.

Lenda, I just love that you said that, "I'm just in that mood." Good for you!! I strongly encourage people to go with that flow (with no apologies, young lady). You'll learn so much about working with glass by sticking with a challenging technique you enjoy...until it has taught you everything it needs to teach you.

Robbin A, such amazing precision!! What a steady hand you must have. I'm very impressed.

Kandice, your pictures are so beautiful, large, clear, bright, color balanced.

And now for my latest excitement. I had a heck of a time capturing the magic in pictures, but here's the link. I made the iris murrinis with a mix of transparent and opaque glass, then let it float over the dichroic glass beneath. When you look into this eye the dichro twinkles! Wheee heee heee! Can't wait to make more.

Everyone's beadies are just terrific! I love these threads!

Lori, eventually I'm going to move my studio out to the garage, and you've given me some inspiration. Cool beadies, too!

WillowAnn, if you put your beads on a mandrel, they'll stay put on the scanner (sort of...)

I finally got in some torch time on Sunday, and after finishing up a bunch of beads for jewelry orders I played around a bit. Here are a few things that came out of the kiln.

Willowann, first time showing your beads? They look great! Look at that bi-cone!

Lori, love your studio, so organized! Your latest beads are looking super...where are your auctions!

Jinx, a sparkle in the eye, pretty impressive, and so well executed!

Shirley, ohh, those beads are lucious! When I think of your style I think of long beads, so nice to see some gorgeous round beads too!

Jack, Gee, some nice dot control there...very nice!

Oh, I know I'm missing people to praise!

Well, now I've finished scrolling and oggling, I can't even begin to attempt to remember everyone! Y'all are AWESPIRATIONAL!

Heck, I was happy to get some matching opalino spacers:
http://www.wetcanvas.com/Community/images/20-Nov-2002/beads8_gelato.jpg

I made some filigrana and used it in the far left bead, but you can't see it! HA! The far right is my fave of the day:
http://www.wetcanvas.com/Community/images/20-Nov-2002/beads8_planets.jpg

Far right is a big bead! LOL! Unfortunately, it also has a crack. Far left, the stringer got out of hand, so I turned it into a christmas pudding LOL
http://www.wetcanvas.com/Community/images/20-Nov-2002/beads8_oddballs.jpg

2nd from left has that same filigrana as before - these are more wonky than normal! LOL! (Last 2 are Spectrum, and not too wonky)

Thank you all for the complements on my fish scale bead. I am quite proud of that one.

Jinx, I did it with stringers, I find my dots are easier to control witht them,

Kandice, it does look like a mum... I didn't even think of that.

Vikki,
They are quite easy to do. I found the orginal instuctions in the archives at the ISGB forum. If you go to the archives and do a search the thread is called "Scale Look"

After looking for it and re-reading it, I did them different than those instructions said. I use opaque white and made a row of dots and then used transparent green on top of them, the next row is started inbetween the previous row with white again and then green on top.... melt each color in completely and then go to the next row. Start out with a little bead, it will make a big bead when you are done, my base is clear. If you need any more help just let me know. I want to make one in every color now!

These are some Seriously Overdecorated Beads! There are patterns on top of the patterns.... And these are really my colors - ink blue, Lauscha purple, Lauscha teal and turquoise. I really loved making these.

Lenda..I gotta get back to making some florals. By now I bet I've forgotten how. They are always hit or miss for me (one really bad one for every good one) and I need to keep in practice. You've inspired me...maybe today I'll try one.

OK, I went back and took notes on everyones beads so I can comment, here we go...............

Lara, I'm sure your beads are lovely, it's hard to get nice pics from a scanner. Everytime I scan my beads, I think, Geez they look so much better in person. Lovely floral, and that bicone is Wonderful!!

Kandice, I love all the beads but the swirly blue in the second pic is my fav. The focal in the 3rd pic is second, and are those plunged dots I see??

Marie, your bead reminds me of a floral bunch wrapped like you get from the old fashioned flower shops, Well done!!

LoriP, I love the flowering cactus in the pot, but where are the eyes???? Your worksapce is lovely, you are a lucky girl indeed!

Willow Ann, about time girl, keeping all that eye candy to yourself!! I love the burgundy you got and the bicones and barrels are just lovely!!! Now, don't be so selfish again, I want to see them all!!!!

Jack, wonderful dot control, dots and bumpies are my favs, well next to flowers ya know:evil: I don't have a digital to help you, but do a search and there's lot's of info in the photography forum too.

Harriet, lay off on the color, WHY????? Your beads are always stunning, I can't use that many colors, my mind won't let me, But I love it when you do it!! So please don't stop!!!

Maureen, lovely set of beads, lot's of metallics and texture going on, that's one thing I can't really seem to get, TEXTURE> Great job!!!

Sandy, is there really such a thing as overdecorated????I think not!!! Beautiful color combo's, I really like them together, lot's of visual stimulation going on, LOVE THEM!!!

Brenda, girlfriend, that is one GORGEOUS bead!!!! Ya know, Christmas is right around the corner!! I just love it, and I'm glad you got your scanner to work, now I can see your beads!!!!

There, I'm caught up, and thanks for showing all your goodies with us everyone!!!

Wow! Beautiful, everyone!!! Sandy, no way are those over decorated! Maureen, how did you get the silver surface on the beads close to your focal (if you want to share... :) )?

Lenda, I'm right there with ya on working on one kind of bead!! And Jinx, I agree, it's a great way to learn about the glass...

Here's a bead that I'm 'stuck' on right now. This is about the 7th bead, and with each one I learn a little more about heat and dot placement... At this point they take me a LONG time to make (and it's a big honker- about half an inch hole to hole, and more than an inch across). The pic isn't a very good representation of the overall look of the bead, but, hey, I'm supposed to be getting ready for work right now so it'll have to do!

Rightbrainbead - I just used yellow iris reduction frit on those beads. Seems I can never get them reduced so they can look the same. Anyhow, after about the 2nd roll, I then flash it in and out of the flame till it gets silver looking, then stop. It just takes alot of fooling around with RF to get the hang of it.

Kandice - I'm shipping myself off to you for a few days, you can program my mind to learn as fast as you do, then send me back, OK? :D

(who is STILL astonished by all the fine craftsmanship displayed by you guys!)

I went to the ISGB Archive, typed in the word scale and came up with these:

Scale look (http://www.isgb.org/cgi-bin/archive.pl?read=38903)

help with fish scale pattern (http://www.isgb.org/cgi-bin/archive.pl?read=28965)

Awesome beadies people...and the beadies word cracks me up...for some reason my two year old daughter immediately started calling them that from introduction, so its a household word for us. Each morning, when I go to check the kiln, clean, take pix before I go to work, she gets up usually when I'm manipulating the images on the computer and says "Ooh, dose your pretty beadies, mommy?" Very confidence boosting to have praise from a two year old...HA!

Here are some of my show and tell! Kinda good week, sorry to be a thread hog, I've been savin' em up!

Too many beauties to comment on, wow! I have to call Robbin's as my favs, though, I love the fish scale look--that is soo cool! I'd like to try that, maybe if I could ever get precise enough! Wow!

These show and tell threads are great. If I don't have time for anything else on WC, I always at least scroll through the show n tell thread and just drink it all in...

Soon I will have something to contribute... soon... soon... soon...

You are all keeping me inspired.
