Hi all,

On August 15, 2002 there was a discussion on the fading of pastels. http://www.wetcanvas.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=12814 (I hope that works.)

I love Nu-Pastel and use them always. Under other pastels, over other pastels and in between. Like Daniel Greene who also uses them throughout a work.

I was concerned about the fading. So, on that day I took all 96 colors, did a swatch on a eggshell colored Mi-tientes and took a strip of a felt grey Mi-tientes and covered half of the swatch.

I placed the swatches in a large sliding-glass door window which faced south. It sat there undisturbed until about an hour ago. (I would have left it up but I am having a full house of Thanksgiving.)
The sun beat on it for the rest of the summer. It gets so hot in this window that a plant would not survive placed even near the window.

Below are the results I found. I know it's not scientific, nor did I have a testing chemicals. Just pure color in rough curricumstances.

I was pleased with the results as I am sure any medium would do some fading under the conditions that I placed my colors.

I am sure you can dispute my findings. And I am sure I could too it I were more knowledgeable about chemicals, etc. I don't feel anyone would put a painting through the abuse that I just put these Nu-pastels through. And if they do, then they don't deserve to own a fine piece of art.

Take it for what you may. Hope it is helpful to someone. It was for me.

Oh by the way, the paper never changed color either. Not the eggshell nor the felt grey.

would you believe something crashed right in the middle of my post. I am surprised the writing part is still there. Here's the results. geri
