View Full Version : Colleen's Oct. Sketchbook Challenge
10-02-2010, 04:56 AM
My sketchbook, brand new and ready to go. 100 8.5x11 inches and yes I will use the whole page! I have already been busy, I want to finish about 4 per day. So here goes!
I needed a title page,
the next page was spotted by the markers, so it became my writing page. This is a poem I am working on. The next pics are drawings of a couple of gargoyle statues I have. I thought they might be a nice Halloweenish start.
I'm sure my sketchbook will go in many directions! It should be a nice example for my students. :wink2:

Hi Colleen, your sketches look like fun (although that second gargoyle is suitably scarey!) This looks like it will be a great sketchbook and journal, I like looking at other's sketchbooks who include their thoughts and writing with their drawings - I find it fascinating :)
10-02-2010, 12:43 PM
Love the gargoyles! Great start!
10-02-2010, 01:57 PM
Great start Colleen. I like the gargoyle drawings and your poem looks as if it will be interesting. I will enjoy seeing your sketchbook develop.
10-02-2010, 04:14 PM
Colleen, your gargoyle sketches are fantastic. I really like the cat-headed one, the other one's perfectly drawn too. Fascinating poem in progress - so cool you put in the changes and show its development as well as your drawings. Cool intro page too! I'll post this to the Index.

10-03-2010, 05:14 PM
LOVE those gargoyles too. I like the ideas going on here to start the challenge.
10-03-2010, 09:15 PM

Great gray gargoyle guys...!
10-04-2010, 02:15 PM
Looks like you are off to a great start! I love the the gargoyles - you are right about them being suitably Halloween-ish! And it IS a great idea to combine your drawings and poetry - they all come from that wonderful creative place inside.
Looking forward to more.

My computer wouldn't connect to the internet all weekend! I am working on the computer at work, just so I can post the pages I worked on this weekend. :(
I have really enjoyed working, and I have included some of the images from the WDE in all media events. You all have inspired me to look for themes or try a scavenger hunt! Loads of ideas here!
The first three are from the WDE
Some of these are from other challenges, but I lost track of where!!
I guess I will have to hunt them down.

That really stinks about your internet not connecting for you, but it was well worth the wait for me to see your sketches. They look great! I really like the chef and the hummingbird :)
10-04-2010, 06:20 PM
Wonderful sketches. Great reflections with the gourds.
10-04-2010, 07:12 PM
wow! all so neat, but I really like the teapot and the gourds/pumpkins, those reflectons are great! and the colours! :)
10-04-2010, 10:08 PM
I like them all! If I had to choose a fav it would be the hummingbird as I am especially partial to them.
10-04-2010, 10:13 PM
Great sketches! Especially the gourds.
(psst, gourds are from October color pencil challenge)
Wonderful pieces, all - but my favs are the reflecting gourds and the hummingbird!
these sketches are beautiful! my favs are the chef (wonderful use of minimal color) and the gourds (the colors and reflections are awesome)!
10-05-2010, 09:29 AM
I know the feeling about the internet. . . I've had no internet on weekends for a while and go to library every Saturday!
Lovely sketches. . . the gourds are beautiful, great colors and reflections and I really like the portrait of your friend at church.

Great sketches from the WDE, but that one of the pumpkins reflected is just wonderful!!!
10-06-2010, 12:14 AM
Thanks all for the comments! and thanks Greeble for letting me know where I need to post the gourd picture! I will have to get it over there in the color pencil forum!
Well, I got my internet repaired... so here are the latest sketches!:D
http://www.wetcanvas.com/Community/images/05-Oct-2010/117957-IMG_1277.JPG another gargoyle.. I think this is the last of them, http://www.wetcanvas.com/Community/images/05-Oct-2010/117957-IMG_1278.JPG a little container for candy corn...oh great now I am hungry for sweets.... sorry guys!http://www.wetcanvas.com/Community/images/05-Oct-2010/117957-IMG_1279.JPG and finally a bunch of clips to clip my mouth shut so I don't eat all that candy!
More nice gargoyles and ghouls, Colleen! Great job on the clips. My wife solves the candy-eating problem for me by buying candy that I don't like. :o
10-06-2010, 12:24 AM
great sketches - that pile of paperclips is very good and such a quirky idea for a sketch - looks like your observation skills got a work out!
10-06-2010, 12:58 AM
what an interesting composition of paper clips, love the lights and darks and you got the shapes so perfect.
10-06-2010, 01:37 AM
Hee hee, sweets. Great drawings. The paper clips are superb.
10-06-2010, 11:18 AM
Great sketches, nice job on the paper clips and love the gargoyles :)
love the soft quality to the gargoyles, and the pop of red in the first one's eyes...and those clips are wonderful!
10-06-2010, 11:10 PM
Oh, I love candy corn too, and gargoyles in general (all things medieval actually), and yes the clips are fab, never thought of using them as a diet aid...
10-08-2010, 03:58 AM
good job on the clips :)
10-09-2010, 02:39 AM
very nice sketches... now I'm hungry too... I need to buy some candy corn!
10-09-2010, 02:54 AM

Ohhhhhh, the Gargoyle, the Container, and the Clips are WOW and just STUNNING!!!!!!
Gentle Hugs, Stacey:grouphug:
10-09-2010, 01:10 PM
Great job on the clips! I've drawn them, poorly, and they seem to defy the rules of perspective for me :)
10-10-2010, 05:11 PM
I've really enjoyed looking at all your drawings, and your personality comes shining through them all. I love the beautiful composition and colour of the gourds and am impressed your drawing of the clips -difficult subject done so well.
10-11-2010, 07:38 AM
Ohhh... candy corn! NOM! It's the price and distance here that prohibts candy corn carnage - it's only available in import candy shops and costs about $10AUD for a tiny packet but those clips are so fab I think I could use them just as happily!:)
10-13-2010, 10:52 AM
 It is nice to know that I am not the only one with a candy addiction!! :D
I spent a lot of time yesterday commenting on all the wonderful sketchbooks that everyone is doing:thumbsup:   It takes quite a while, so I wanted to thank you all for commenting on mine. I am thinking about only uploading once a week on mine, so you all can take a small break from commenting!!:o
Anywho, here are the latest things, I was at an art show all weekend, so I also took notes. After all, the sketchbook is a learning tool!

10-13-2010, 11:44 AM

10-13-2010, 02:27 PM
Terrific sketches! I agree, it's difficult getting around everyone's sketchbooks to comment as there's so many doing the challenge.
10-13-2010, 05:54 PM
Love the notes and sketches. I agree, the sketch book is a working tool.
10-14-2010, 04:30 AM

Thank you, yes my students enjoyed the war of the worlds one as well!
10-14-2010, 11:32 AM
