A new project has been announced in the WetCanvas! project system!

Title: Nov/Dec Animal Art Project
Project Leader: animal
Relative Difficulty: Irrelevant
Type Restrictions: Any Type
Medium: Any Medium
Subject: Wildlife
Days open for signups: Always
Maximum participants allowed: Unlimited

Description:

Using the reference image provided, produce your work of art.

Do show your progress images and tell us what techniques you are using to complete your work. If you like, you can do both images!

You can work in watercolors, oils, pastel, acrylics, or perhaps you want to draw or sculpt. Any medium you choose will be good for us to discuss.

I've started a thread in the Wildlife Forum so we can talk about our progress and share information.

Remember, you are to only use the reference images below.

The object of this project is to work from one reference photograph and for all of us to see how we all accomplish this task and to share our knowledge.

Be sure to post progress pics in the special thread, or inside this project, and be sure to tell us what you are doing and why.

Additional Information:

For more information on the project: Click here! (http://www.wetcanvas.com//Community/Projects/browse_details.php?proj_id=312)

Remember, in order to help keep the discussions on projects organized, you should post your questions, suggestions, and comments on submitted work here in this thread. By doing this, we allow other non-project efforts to not get "pushed down" by a swarm of project-related threads.

Sorry we haven`t had an animal art project in a while. I`ve been quite busy with other projects and moving.

Looks Good Animal :)
I'm in.
The reference photos you chose are fantastic.
I'm glad it is for November and December so I stand a better chance of getting it done.

Thanks, Leaflin! I just signed up and posted my progress pics. I don't participate much in this forum (yet!), but your references were hard to resist! Is it possible to get a higher resolution image to work from? The dog especially is very low res.

I like the fox very much. It's very nicely done. But IMHO the background on the right side distracts me. :) Maybe a bit more blending would be in order. Other than that, very nice!

Thanks Eileen- and you're right about the bg. I confess I definitely had some scruples about it, since it was only when the fox was done that I turned my attention to the bg.

Leaving it white didn't seem like the best solution; I had to do something with it, but wasn't sure what. I guess I was trying to simulate the blurry appearance of the woody bg on the photograph, but it didn't work out, the linework was all wrong, and the streaks of light that was meant to give some degree of form to the blurred branches just ended up as a sort of distrait pattern. :( :crying:

Blending? Hmm, I'll give it a try, thank you again. :)

Any better? I rubbed in more charcoal, eliminated some of those lighter, misplaced streaks, but added darker lines instead. Or would be even more effective if it were blended in further to produce a black matted bg?

Hlee, I think it's just fine the way it is. The background has texture, so is not monotonous, yet it doesn't distract from the lovely fox. Well done!

Thanks Dawn :) I didn't want to do a traditional drawing etc. I saw the WIP on this subject and it was awesome. If I was to draw or cp or pastel it, I know I wouldn't be satisfied and couldn't reach that standard of work anyway. So I played and HAD FUN! :)

Awwwww......his expression is so soulful MJ....just right.
I don't think you overworked this at all. As KarenU said to me once...'Stop beating yourself up over this'. Put it in a drawer for a couple of weeks and I promise you when you get it out again you will think.....' Did I really do this'....You have just become too close to the image and can't see what's really going on here.
You did a fabulous job....Hehehehe...those eyes are just fabulous.....I love it:clap:

I don't think you overworked this at all. As KarenU said to me once...'Stop beating yourself up over this'. Yes I agree with Chris...put it in away for a few weeks...but remember to post your final entry first!

Its been a long time since I have had the time to participate in these projects. Everyone has done a fabulous job and I am in envy...:) Perhaps over the holidays I will get the opportunity to look over these entries closer and comment individually. (I sure hope so!!)

I finished the fox, but my scanner doesn't work with my new computer. I'll send him in from work, I guess.

Hi Suzy, when you upload images into the art projects, they do not appear in the coinciding thread. If you want it seen here as well, you will hvae to upload here to. Or, if you or someone comments on an entry in the project, it will then appear here with a picture and a link back to the project...

Really nice Textures Suzy ....... (with projects go to 'Art Projects' on the drop down menu on the left - select 'My Art Projects' click on app. link..... then browse final entries - click on the one you want to view and comment) will take a thumbnail of the painting along with your comment)

Good works Suzy

Thanks Caron, Dark_Shades and Jakeally!

I had fun with this one...especially the background. :cat: Maybe I should do all my backgrounds in the middle of the night when I can't sleep!

Everyone's submissions are listed as "entries"...does that mean that someone like a moderator or something goes over them later?

Suzy

No Suzy, all it means is it your entry into the project. You can submit a progress entry or a final entry. Yours were submitted as final entries..:)
