I bought a KOH-I-NOOR pen cleaning set today, and was appalled by the cost :( $18.95 That will tell you how long it has been since I cleaned my pens. What do you to clean your pens with? Do you use a cleaner you make, or one you buy as I did?

I found my husband technical pens few weeks ago, and he cleaned them for me. I'll ask him how he did it and post it later in the night.

Thanks dolors. I would really like to make my own cleaning solution. Nearly $20 is just too much!

I have the Koh-I-Noor set, but I'm pretty certain that I only paid $11 for the whole thing (bulb, doo-hickey thingamabobs, and cleaner).
Oh. You can also get just the concentrate for around $6. It's 1 oz more cleaner than what comes in the kit and it is concentrated, so it gets mixed with water to make more. Dick Blick carries it.

Perhaps our technical pens are different than yours. They are old Rotrings and are refillable with ink. My husband cleans them only with hot water.

I started with the same kit, and now supplement it with Dick Blick's cheaper version. On top of that, I water it down with hot water, cheapskate that I am. If you keep them clean enough, you don't need much of the solution. ;)
Hi Sassy
I have been using Technical Pens for more than 20 years, All various brands. My Pens can sit for Months or even Years between each use.
I pull them completely apart and I use ordinary Bath Soap and a Toothbrush for the main section, I clean the fine needle very very carefully with a soapy wet Tissue and a soapy Q-tip/CottonBud for the Ink holder. I hope this is of some use to you, Everything is worth a try.
