Description:

Here we go again with yet another Zentangle exchange!

You'll be required to make 20 Zentangles (to learn more about Zentangles (which is a copyrighted word), go to www.zentangle.com for more information). Zentangles are patterns that are drawn in a 3x3 inch square but we will be creating ATC size (3.5 x 2.5"). On my Pen & Ink blog, I have listed blogs that are filled with Zentangle patterns. You can make up your own as well! (my blog is www.zentanglingforfun.blogspot.com). Zentangles are done in ink and you can color and shade them if you like. There are no hard fast rules

Please only sign up if you are committed to do all 20 Zentangles within a few months as well as participate in the thread. This exchange is all encompassing.. that means being a part of the fun on the thread and interacting with others as well as making art. Anyone can contribute cards and call it a day, but this is all about feedback and feeling good about creating!

Please PM me with name/address when you sign up and I will get a list made up when the project is full!

OK I've been reading the refs and doodling all morning and nearly missed my lunch. Came up with some interesting ideas and surprised myself. I'm not used to working so small so I hope my eyes can stand it LOL

I use 90-110# cardstock to back my cards and then print out the "contact" information to add to the back of the card. Then I use a baseball card sleeve to protect the card (I purchase them at Walmart - 100 in a package).

Marion, you can really use any kind of paper you wish. Many use a harder cardstock to make sure the paper doesn't crease or bend, but it's really up to you. I have some watercolor paper, some Bristol, really anything that you can glide a pen over. I love the smooth surfaces the best but if I'm going to color it, I'll need something that will stand up to water :)

Pixie, glad to have you.. hope things start looking up for you. We are going to try to do this project within a 3 month period. If it takes too much longer, people get bored and don't comment, so we'll see how it goes :)

Sometimes I wish i lived in the world where there werre art stores with things like bristol paper and Baseball trading card sleeves. Alas, I don't have things like that here and must either pay a high postage rate or do without.
Guess that is the price we pay to live somewhere else.
I am still thinking about joining in. I am running the other one right now and may do this one also as I think I will have the time if I can just find some new ideas.
I don't think watercolor will work for these so I may have to use up my supply of color pencils and ink. I really need to get more creative though.
3 months.... Hmmmmm.........
Okay, I will try not to mix the addresses up. I am going to have to figure out a better way to do the back of the cards. Maybe print the labels and then glue them on the back???

I wonder if it is too early to begin the Christmas theme in the Zentangles??? Here they have the Christmas things out already. It usually starts with the ber months. (Months ending with ber)

Out of ideas??? Go to Yahoo Search and enter "zentangle" then click "image" and Enter. You will get many pages of them for ideas.

I am looking forward to this exchange.. and I have been busy working on zentangle cards since I finished the last one!

Ray, I agree that it is hard to keep coming up with fresh ideas, so my cards don't all look alike! I have been hitting the internet for sources of inspiration...

I am much more drawn to color than to b/w.. so the zentangles have pushed me in a new direction. I keep trying to make myself stay in the b/w mode, but color just seems to creep in.. one minute all my cards are white, the next thing I know they have been covered with w/c! :eek:

I can't wait to see the final list of participants and start sending out cards.. Rose, what about a Christmas Card zentangle exchange?? :evil:

Hi Linda.. your Zentangles were awesome on the last project.. I know what you mean about color.. I have snuck some in as well :)

As far as Christmas card Zentangles.. I didn't get into that because last time I mentioned doing one (a year or so ago), there were just too many religions or those not celebrating, etc that it was hard to keep track of who would get what... if you'd like to do a holiday card, that would be great, I need more feedback from the rest of the members here to see if they are okay with it. It's one of those 'things' :)

I have been in about 3 exchanges in the past few months. Now I am having a bit of a challenge.
I received a card form someone and they didn't say which exchange it was from. Now I don't know how to let them know which exchange it was from.

I haven't started my Zen's for this swap yet but will soon...

My brother-in-law is having a surprise 50th b-day for my sister. So, Jan, (our other sister) and I are driving to PA next weekend for the party (we live near Chicago). I have to finish the picture this weekend so I can get it framed before we go. I really want some feedback on the image but can't add it to my blog as she may see it. So, I thought I would put it here and see what you all thought.

I have been checking out all things Zentangle and I am going to get started on some cards this week. Super keen as mustard I am after spending lots of time googling and going through some great blogs.

As this is my first WC project can someone let me know do we post the cards we create to this thread or somewhere else or not at all.

Way back on the first page where the exchange was announced there is a Chilk Here place where you signed up.
AFTER the cards are recieved by the person, they will PM you that they received it.
THEN you will post the photos in the place where it says to upload your finished paintings.
They will appear unde your name in the Gallery part of the exchange found on the same page.
Go to the Zentangle exchange and you will see them already posted and where they do it. This one will be the same.
Just don't forget to scan the cards before you send them out and keep a list of where you sent them so you wil know which one to download when it is recieved.

Hi Ken..

I put little labels on the back of my cards.. not sure if mine are the ones you mean, but what I do is to set up a word file with the information for the card exchange: the name of the exchange, the title, date, medium, support etc. for the image as well as my email information and name, in a very small font.

Then I copy this information and paste it into the document (I usually set up several columns on the page) until I have enough for all the cards in the exchange. If I am giving each card a different title I will leave the space blank and fill the title in my hand.

Next I print the file, cut the information bits apart, and glue them to the back of the card using a glue made for scrapbooking that will not cause the paper to deteriorate.

Then I sign the card on the back.

Some people have nice borders around their information.. you can do this most publishing or word processing programs... I don't put borders on mine.

You can also buy labels to print in office supply stores etc. and use those.. I never bought any that were atc size but they probably have them. In that case you wouldn't need any glue. ;) If you use these labels there is a free program from Avery labels that will set the size for you in the computer. Word also has this feature under tools - letters and mailing- envelopes and labels.

I also put all the information and "stuff" from an exchange into a large mailing envelope and keep it there until the exchange is finished. That way I know where to look for *anything* about that exchange.

I am making all zentangles featuring Zenyatta the words go together so nicely. They are a fun way to warm up as an artist , I use old fashioned pen and ink. Can we start posting them in the gallery? It is looking empty !

Ken's right. You have to send them out first, let the person/people know they are on the way, and when they contact you after receiving them, you post them in the gallery :) Hope that helps. I hope we get more people soon.. I guess we'll have to start with the 12 we have :)

We are still at 12 people and we're nearly at the 1 month mark for sign ups. I don't know if I should keep the project up or just wait for another time. There really aren't enough to do this project and I need feedback about whether you want to still do it with 12, that would mean making only 11 cards and sending them out. I am okay with it, but it's really not as fulfilling as a full group. Let me know, okay?

Well I have some ready, but we have a general strike here today which also means several days disruption. Also a fuel shortage due to the strikes and workers blocking the fuel depots, so trips by car have to be limited at the moment. Going to the UK on Wednesday (strikes and fuel permitting) will take some over there and post them there LOL

That's exactly right flashviv.
You pm them to say it's on the way.
They pm you to say it's arrived.
You upload and pm the recipient that it is uploaded.
The recipient then comments on the painting.

As the project system does not seem to be functioning properely, I am then also commenting on my own pieces so that others know it has been uploaded and they can comment if they want to. It also allows me to put in any info about the piece.

Jeanne another great one. Several things come to mind- UFOs, mushrooms looking at the stars, spinning tops. It's great and fun:clap:

Wow, I love all the cards here already. I haven't had a second to sit and do much since school started, so forgive me if I'm working at snail's pace. Maybe the holiday break will help me get motivated. Plus my son has been sick all week with an upper respiratory infection. Bleh.

Hi Everyone!

I'm one of the last few that got added to the project, and I'm very excited! I'm about halfway done with my batch, but being a "newbie" here, I just wanted to confirm a few things.

I received the list of addresses, and assume that I send a Zentangle ATC to each person on the list. (Please correct me if I'm wrong.)

Also, I don't see a send-by date, and didn't want to keep people waiting for my Zen's.

Welcome to the project. :wave: It's a lot of fun.

You send a zentangle to each of us on the list. There is no send by date. I sent out several a couple of weeks ago and I now have a second batch to go.

Photograph or scan the painting before sending it out.
When you send out a zentangle, you PM the recipient.
When they receive it they let you know.
After they have received it you upload the image into the final gallery and PM the recipient to let them know it's been uploaded.
The recipient then comments on their painting.
Others can also comment on the painting.

As the project software is not working properly (i.e. title, description etc is not working) I always comment on my own, giving the title, who it was for and anything else about the piece that may be of interest.

I hope this helps, and forgive me if you already know all this :lol: .

Have fun with those zentangles. I'm finding them very addictive.

As we get older.....
I woke up this morning and wanted to finish the exchange and get them mailed out so I coould concentrate on the other exchange. (We are going to the condo for swimming again.)
i couldn't find any of my Zentangles. Only two envelopes and some of Ray's art. Finally I went through the PMs and found that I had sent all of them out except the last 4 awhile back and many had been recieved.
I think I only need to do 4 more and then I can move to the other exchange and finish that one up.
Senior moments. They are really not that good sometimes.

I have got all my Zentangles completed and in the mail and have been receiving some beautiful art every week - such a joy. Merry Christmas everyone.

I still have 4 more to mail out. They are the last 4 on the list. I really need to do them today so they can go out next week.
Then I need to start on another exchange on another site.

I have them finished. Now I must wait for a stort to open. Today is Christmas Day and everything is closed. Maybe tomorrow I can get some envelopes. I have 4 cards and 2 envelopes. The Post Office won't be opened until Monday so I will be able to have someone mail them out then. FINALLY!

Susan, I am wondering if you sent lawn jockey's to Vancouver or new Burnaby address ? I did do post office address change just in case, but it 'll take a week to kick in so I have been going there to check mail. I already sent you one, hope you get it soon ! Such gorgeous new cards! I am so delinquent lately, please forgive me. So much going on at home and not enough time in the day to do what I need to do. I haven't forgotten this thread.. Love that you all are having a blast doing the Zentangles. There is hope for me soon, I think I can catch up in soon. TOO MUCH ON THE PLATE! I've just discovered Zentangles. Is there any other project in the making here? I've searched the net and utube for 2 days and found just a treasure trove of Zentangle art. I've started my first one but am a little under the weather and haven't finished it yet. It gives me all kinds of ideas that I want to try. I will find ways to incorporate some of my photo art subjects into Zentangles.

I have submitted an exchange for consideration. It should either be in or out in a few days.
You may have tour Pixtel setting too high. I set the size to 2.5 X 3.5 and the resolution to about 100 or so and save it as a jpeg and it should go. ( I did that from memory so it may not be entirely right. The concept is to reduce the resolution enough without making it too small.)

I seem to be unable to download the hearts tangle for Abelone. They say to email them but, they don't say who "they" are. I tried several times. It is only about 38K and it is a jpeg. Maybe I am not allowed to anymore???

Yesterday the uploader worked well for me but I have tried many times and got the same result as you Ken, just keep trying another day ! Love the colourful hearts !

Bad news. My hard drive died this morning. The images were on it. i don't think I will be able to get them back. I plan to try later. I have the old drive.
Right now, I am rebuilding my new hard drive.
If I cannot find them, I will not be able to download any more images that have already been mailed.

First off I need to APPOLOGISE for my absence in this discussion thread.

Secondly I need to explain why I have yet to send any cards out. I have for the last eight months been VERY ill, as has been my husband. I suffer from various physical and psychological problems, and over these months one or the other has caused me to be hospitalised for quite some time.

I will never really recover, HOWEVER, I am starting back on the cards and will be sending them out periodically over the next few months. I DO APPOLOGISE that I have not done this sooner, but this has been the first chance that I have had, to write.

As part of my recovery, getting these exchanges completed are top priority, so I WILL DO THEM, PROMISE!!!!!

ANYWAY, thankyou to all, and I hope you are not too mad with me and can understand and eventually forgive me for my absence!

Firehorse please don't push yourself too hard after all you've been through ! I still have 6 or 7 to complete and am working hard again with little time for art right now!
I wish I could remember which people I haven't sent one to yet, some I sent have not responded as received !
